More than six months after suffering a serious toe injury during the playoffs, Chargers tight end Antonio Gates is only at 65-70 percet.

Gates did some running and cutting on the first day of training camp for rookies and some veterans.

Obviously, it’s a process,” Gates said, according to the Associated Press.  “I’m a lot better than I felt a month ago.  I can say that.  I have no determinant on when and how fast I’ll be coming back.  But right now, I feel good.  It’s a little sore, but it’s tolerable.”

Still, he’s a long way from 100 percent.  And it’s apparently anyone’s guess as to when he’ll be able to play.

Meanwhile, quarterback Philip Rivers says that he is fully recovered from offseason surgery to repair a torn ACL.

“I’ve been going full-go now for over a month,” Rivers said.  ”There’s nothing I can’t do.  There are times throughout the day I can’t tell which knee I hurt.”
