More than six months after suffering a serious toe injury during the playoffs, Chargers tight end Antonio Gates is only at 65-70 percet.
Gates did some running and cutting on the first day of training camp for rookies and some veterans.
“Obviously, it’s a process,” Gates said, according to the Associated Press. “I’m a lot better than I felt a month ago. I can say that. I have no determinant on when and how fast I’ll be coming back. But right now, I feel good. It’s a little sore, but it’s tolerable.”
Still, he’s a long way from 100 percent. And it’s apparently anyone’s guess as to when he’ll be able to play.
Meanwhile, quarterback Philip Rivers says that he is fully recovered from offseason surgery to repair a torn ACL.
“I’ve been going full-go now for over a month,” Rivers said. ”There’s nothing I can’t do. There are times throughout the day I can’t tell which knee I hurt.”

I’m not at all surprised that Gates is only at 65-70 percent. I’m surprised that he can do anything. I suffered a turf toe injury four years ago, and even today if I run around for more than an hour, my toe hurts like hell. Of course, he has the best medical care, and he is a young, healthy guy, so maybe he can come back from the injury, but as a Chargers fan, I’m not holding my breath.

I predict gates sits out the entire preseason and plays game 1.
I saw a video of him here in San Diego today that showed him running around making cuts on the practice field.

My inner Raider fan tells me that the Window has already closed for the Chargers when they let Drew Brees walk. Rivers is a solid qb but he is not a top teir performer. The jury is still out on Bree’s but more people will say Bree is a top 5 qb than say the same for Rivers.
LT is old and run down: he is now entering the marcus allen for KC phase of his career. the team will be competitive because they have drafted so well amd have a talented team, but the offensive play makers are getting old.

Amazing how a torn ACL is healed, but a toe injury isn’t. I know a toe injury can be terribly painful, but it just sounds soft.
