The Arizona Cardinals have announced that they have agreed to terms with Miami defensive end Calais Campbell, a second-round pick in the 2008 draft.
The team’s only remaining unsigned rookie is first-round cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
Campbell was regarded by many draftniks as a potential first-rounder, with some linking him to the Redskins. But the Redskins traded out of round one and no one else drafted him in the opening tour of picks. Then, the Redskins passed over him not once but twice in the second round, taking receiver Devin Thomas and tight end Fred Davis.
Meanwhile, the ‘Skins have given up next year’s second-round pick for defensive end Jason Taylor, who has maybe one or two years left in the tank.
So if the six-foot, eight-inch Campbell becomes a beast, the ‘Skins deserve to be criticized for not taking him when they had their chance.

Didn’t they name an ED drug after him?

The Redskins’ D-line coach was the D-line coach at the U during Campbell’s sophomore season. I’m guessing that if the Redskins passed up on Calais twice, they probably had a good reason.

Good singing for the Cards. Finally they are drafting and signing a solid defense.

Kid has every gift in the world, it’s a shame he’s soft. Watch the games his junior year…somebody better piss him off or scare the hell into production out of him, because like I said, every gift…

what the hell?…you talk about campbell being signed and for no reason, the redskins have to be mentioned..what is the point?..all forms of media always have to hate the redskins for something…the signing of campbell has nothing to do with the redskins..a bunch of teams passed on him yet the skins stand out…the redskins made a great move yesterday on a proven pro bowler and you guys are making assumptions that a) calais campbell is going to be a superstar and b) jason taylor is going to suck…unbelievable…

Any draft pick is a gamble, so for “experts” (or anyone for that matter) to criticize passing over an unknown NFL DE for a known pro-bowler is crazy talk. Teams will need to gameplan against Taylor. Teams, more than likely, won’t be doing the same for Calais (at least not at the beginning). Andre Carter should have another 10+ sack year.

thats pretty bad analysis, i really love the site but that is an ignorant statement, i guess no one until the Cards thought he was worth the pick so get ready to criticize every team, and the line that he was considered a possible first rounder by who? obviously no one that works for an NFL team or scout. The sports media loves hating on the Skins and it will never stop but you guys should really do some editing before you post garbage like that story

Dudes, the Cards took him. He is going to be the biggest bust since… I dunno… every Cards draft pick that isn’t a wide receiver, I guess.

Man, there are three things guaranteed in life… death, taxes and Redskins fans whining about how the media hate them.

I think if any of Cambell,Groves or Jason Jones becomes a stud it will reflect poorly on the Skins. They should have looked to add a body to their aging D-Line in the 2nd.
