the packers dont have to do squat till bf actually shows up. they own the rights to him; bf doesnt own the rights to do anything but sjow up or stay home. bf has the right to stay home or show up and be a packer.

if favre is out, then the pack could probly and would probly install a new offense. plus the diva has been dithering for years. a response of "i quit" was coming some day.

bf has been talking a lot, and apparently to a lot of people. the pack doesnt have to release him, and it is bf trying to have it both ways, retired or unretired, when he wants to be!

as retired as he wants to be!

from my vast experience in the workplace, once you say "i quit" or "i retire", guess what? the skids will be greased for your departure. the packers never said "i quit" or "i retire".

it's real simple....the Packers have to make a choice on whether they want him or get him out. they have no say in the fact that he wants to come back. and they won't pay 12 million to a backup.

screw Rodgers.....he's nobody. wait your turn. Steve Young waited a hell of a lot longer than Rodgers.

Its a "win now" league, and Favre gives them the best chance, last time I checked, he's the only one wearing a ring!

BobS, You don't know what happened with Strahan so quiet. And he is a DE not the QB leading the team so big deal, way different situation.
As for Carson Palmer, who cares what he has to say. Management didn't put Rodgers in this situation. Favre did. He retired, then came back crying. Didn't he say he wasn't forced out? didn't he say he didn't know if he wanted the ball during crunch time? Now I am supposed to believe he isn't lying? Favre did this to Rodgers, not management.

I don't like how Brett has handled this nor do I think that mangement has been very smooth. Its been a chest thumping contest so far. As a Packer fan, I expect them to start the guys that give us the chance to win the SB in 2008. I don't want Brett back because he's "Brett Favre". I want him back because of what he showed/the team showed last season. There are 5 (30+yo)key starters that may not be there in 1 or 2 years. It's time to get it done now! Playing Rodgers would be good....for the 2009 season! Its all about winning now!

theron26, if favre had prior knowledge of where the defense was going to be on the field he would have less interceptions also.

Even Carson Palmer said he was upset. Palmer said Rodgers now will be criticized the rest of this year and/or longer that whatever he does it won't be good enough. And no management should ever put a young player(QB) into that type of situation.

"Don't you think a team (ANY team) has a right to know who is still 'on board' before they go into a draft??"

Giants never pressured Strahan in March 07 to tell them whether or not and NOW!

Regardless of all the derogatory comments by earlier posters, this scenario has a simple solution.

If Green Bay thinks Favre is not capable of being their starting QB, then they should release him. If they think he is, then shut up and start him. You can't have it both ways; and all that is doing is ruining the chance you might be able to trade him.

Favre 2012 said, “He can “still do it?” Really? Overtime of the NFC title game, i.e. the most important minutes of his career since early 1998 laugh at that idea…so does whichever NY Giant he threw that weak pass to.”

Yeah, sure, Favre proved he couldn’t do it because of one pass that helped lose the game to the eventual Super Bowl Champs, don’t pay any attention to the MVP-like season (he finished 2nd to only Brady), 2nd team All-Pro, Pro Bowl nod, none of that matters, just that one pass that anybody at the top of their game could have made. You’re a genius!

WAIT A MINUTE... THE ONE THING THAT FAVRE has as his kryptonite is to throw a bad gunslinger pass his entire career in a vital moment. I don't discredit his regular season performance last year, but you don't see Brady doing that on a regular basis. GiVE IT UP Brett.

"He clearly said on Greta’s show, the Packer GTM kept calling him every couple of days telling him they needed a decision immediately right in March. They pushed him to do it. "

Don't you think a team (ANY team) has a right to know who is still 'on board' before they go into a draft?? Should the whole team wait for one person's decision before they figure out what they need to do for the one season? Would you want to wait until summer training camp to know (if you need to replace players or not)?

You need to step back and remember, Brett is not the owner of the team. He has no rights to decide anything but whether he wants to be part of the team or walk away. That's the ONLY decision that man should have. He needed to do that and in a timely fashion.

Brett made his decision, the Packers made theirs. Now as a PACKER fan, I'm behind who they put in for the new QB... Rodgers!! Let's move on!!

Wow, lots of disrespect for Brett Favre in these comments.

He spent many years earning a lot of credit for his productivity, skill, sportsmanship, team play, and class. I believe he's embarrassed by this whole thing and knows that it has disappointed and frustrated his team and his fans, regardless of whether or not he is the sole contributer to the situation. "The real Brett Favre" hasn't just now emerged: the real Brett Favre is the one we've always known, and he just happened to make a big mistake and is thus just as human as anyone else.

I believe that one long, open-hearted public apology to Packer nation for the way he handled this, and a willingness to accept the backup role the Packers are willing to give him will end this quickly. Even if he did talk with the Vikings about playing for them, he can apologize for the rashness and I now believe he'll be forgiven by most.

After everything he's done in his career, I think he's earned that much.

Boy how rude to want to know what he is going to do rather than drag it out as usual. You do know there is a thing called the offseason which includes the draft. Nice to know things before then

Of course they pushed him for a decision. If they hadn't, he might STILL be waffling. Don't blame Favre's inability to make a timely decision on the Packers. They've got a franchise to run.

As to why Favre didn't hold off on announcing his retirement.

Yes he was pressured to make his decision in March (and Thompson's not so subtle hints to Favre were that his choice needed to be calling it quits).

One thing everyone has learned about Favre over the past few years is he gets burned out at the end of the season and in the spring he doubts his desire to continue playing football, but come summer there's nothing he wants to do more than returning to the field.

that's ok. he's only been dithering for 6 years.

the season had been way over by march.

besides, he changes his mind after that and they were ready to accomodate him. and he changed his mind again! and now he has (!?) changed it back...

how much soap opera does one man get to inflict?

Favre 2012 said, "He can “still do it?” Really? Overtime of the NFC title game, i.e. the most important minutes of his career since early 1998 laugh at that idea…so does whichever NY Giant he threw that weak pass to."

Yeah, sure, Favre proved he couldn't do it because of one pass that helped lose the game to the eventual Super Bowl Champs, don't pay any attention to the MVP-like season (he finished 2nd to only Brady), 2nd team All-Pro, Pro Bowl nod, none of that matters, just that one pass that anybody at the top of their game could have made. You're a genius!

If he's as bad as all these Packer fans keep saying they should be happy to be rid of him. If he's not better than AR and is going to retire at some point anyway TT should be happy to turn him into a draft pick. It would be a gift from heaven.

downsouth49er
"why didn't he just hold off on announcing his retirement?..i just don't think it's right for him to have made such a quick decision based on the outcome of a game"

--

He clearly said on Greta's show, the Packer GTM kept calling him every couple of days telling him they needed a decision immediately right in March. They pushed him to do it.

I've come to the conclusion that Favre is a coward. He wants either the Packers (by naming him the starter) or another team (by getting his release and fielding open bids) to make his retirement decision for him. Either you want to play or you don't, your decision should be based on what YOU want to do, not whether you feel "wanted" or not.

the thing about the whole favre situation that bugs me is, if the guy KNEW he could still physically play, why didn't he just hold off on announcing his retirement? We all go through periods of mental questioning, especially when we've just had something not so good happen to us...but time changes that and I just feel like he was at the point of wanting to retire solely because they lost in the playoffs and he made a decision that was based on that lost and that lost alone...now that he has gotten over that lost, he wants to play again because he realised just how close they were to going to the SB...i just don't think it's right for him to have made such a quick decision based on the outcome of a game and then try to bully his way back on the team after he has "gotten over it"

TT is a freaking idiot for not taking Favre back. How many playoff games have the Packers been in 27yrs. before Favre's arrival?
