Though he’s three years on the wrong side of 30, linebacker James Farrior wants to stay with the Steelers after his current contract expires after the coming season.

I love the team,” Farrior recently told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.  ”I love the organization.  I feel like this is a good home for me, and I’d love to stay.  But we all know how the business goes.  We’ve had a lot of great players come through the system that had to leave.  That’s part of the game.  That’s what you’ve got to realize.”

Farrior is willing to stay even if it means taking a reduced role with the team.  But he wants to get an extension done before the season begins.  He says he probably won’t return in 2009 if a deal isn’t in place soon.

He quietly has had a very solid career in Pittsburgh after signing as a free agent following five years with the Jets.  Farrior has started all but four games during a six-year stint with the Steelers.
