In a topic that garnered surprisingly little space in a Q&A with Arash Markazi of SI.com, Giants receiver Plaxico Burress suggested that a new contract between him and the team is imminent.

Asked whether he’ll be back on the practice field at the start of training camp, Burress said, “I’m just waiting on the Giants and my agent to get this deal done in the next few days or so, and I’ll be ready to get down to camp on time on the 24th.”

Said Markazi, “So you’re saying that a deal is imminent and that you’ll be on the field for the start of camp?”

Replied Burress, “Yeah.”

Plaxico has been trying to get a new contract ever since he caught the game-winning touchdown pass in Super Bowl XLII, after weeks of playing with a torn ligament in his ankle.  There were rumblings that his refusal to practice during a mandatory minicamp last month might have prompted the team to pull the plug on efforts to re-work a deal with three years left on it.  If Burress is accurate, then it means that the team has gotten past his antics from June.
