The Cowboys have a great following because this country is chock full of pathetic, front-running, pretending frauds. If, by the grace of God, the Cowboys endure a sustained period of losing they'll be just another team like they should be. Just about all of the pretending frauds will fade back into the woodwork of their respective cities (like vermin, they're everywhere). All of this America's Team, merchandise sales, prime-time TV nonsense will also come to a merciful end. Want proof? See the Boston Celtics example. They were great for a long period of time, got all of the PR, got all the spotlight, prime time TV, merchandise sales, etc. Then guess what happened? They stunk for a long time and then nobody cared anymore -until this year.

yeah benjitsu, they should "steam roll" their oponents.....straight to a first round defeat in the playoffs, just like the past 12 years plus.

"Maybe a tan Wade Phillips will be more telegenic…Seriously, does Jerry think training camp will really excite the people of southern California? I mean, we’re talkin’ about practice. Not a game, practice. "

Not just practice. Dallas Cowboys practice! He's not holding it in Oxnard to get anybody excited though, they had to go somewhere else because the Alamodome was booked. I don't see the big deal, the Cowboys have had over 20 training camps in Cali

Yeah. You can't beat wildfires, rolling blackouts and $5/gallon gas.

First off, the Cowboys have gone to California for training more years. They actually permanently moved camp back to Texas last year, but because of scheduling conflicts with the Alamo Dome, they had to move it back to California this year temporarily. The decision was made based on familiarity and cooler California weather, not because of some Hollywood marketing ploy.

And anyone saying this is a big marketing move has never been to Cowboys training camp in Oxnard. Oxnard itself is a middle-of-nowhere town, and the camp facilities themselves aren't exactly suited for Holly. Muddy dirt parking lot, a couple of trailers selling merchandise, and some bleacher seating behind a chain link fence. Not exactly glamorous.

Maybe you should change it to "Nostradumbass". Really, the Cowboys are moving to California at the same time that Jerry Jones is spending three quarters of a BILLION dollars out of his own pocket to build a new stadium for them in Arlington. Did you bump your freaking head?

"benjitsu: Tony Romo in a playoff setting 0-5 (0-2 in the NFL and 0-3 at Eastern Illinois)."

Are you sure that you don't wanna include golf, high school and pee wee football and cribbage in there?

The Cowboys have a great following in SoCal and Arizona because they've had many many camps there in the past.

It's America's Team™. They can play anywhere they want to.
They could tour like Cirque de Soleil.

Just be grateful they're not in your town because your local team will get no run those weeks.

Dallas Cowboys > NFL

Don't forget that.

I am going to guess that you meant expect.

I lived in Texas for three years, fall is a little humid.

The Cowboys had originally planned to hold training camp in San Antonio again this year, but a scheduling conflict with the Alamodome prompted the change to Oxnard. There is precedence for this as the Cowboys have, more than once, held training camp in Oxnard, and before that, in Thousand Oaks. This is actually a good idea, and some fans consider it better for the team, as anyone who has spent a July or August in Texas can tell you that the weather during those months is not exactly ideal for working out in full pads.

There was a time when the Cowboys heading to California for spring training meant that Tom Landry was getting serious about a run to the title...now it means the circus (with Jerry Jones as the ringmaster) will be trying to just keep the stars from getting in trouble or saying something stupid to the press.

I'm sick of Jones pimping the Star.

Go Cowboys.

The question is, why do the Cowboys choose a dumpster of a town like Oxnard? There are much more flattering places in Southern California to choose from.

On the other hand, Pacman, errrr, Adam Jones should fit right in with all the gang activity/violence that goes on in Oxnard. Maybe he can make some new friends a shoot somebody during one of his off-nights.

benjitsu: Tony Romo in a playoff setting 0-5 (0-2 in the NFL and 0-3 at Eastern Illinois). Wade Phillips 0-4 in the playoffs (although one of those losses was the Music City Miracle). The Cowboys will most likely make the playoffs again. And immediately be bounced by whoever is lucky enough to be slotted against them. The Giants will win the division and the Cowboys will again be left making excuses for why they couldn't get it done.

Yeah, and its now 4220 days since they won a playoff game. Go ahead and "steam roll" through the regular season schedule.

Steamroll that schedule all you want as long as we get a repeat performance from Tony Choko.

I don't like the Cowboys and I'll openly admit that before saying anything else but I can't see how their local fans aren't upset about this. Wouldn't you want to go see your team gear up for the season in person(without having to go out to California)? I just don't get it.

Um ...really the cowboys are a train wreck. I heartily laugh at all of you haters. The cowboys fixed their holes and should steam roll thru their schedule. They are also THE ONLY TEAM to not have a player arrested in the past two years. How is this a slap in the face to cowboys fans, asshat? its actually a great idea have you ever been to texas in july and august? The climate is much nicer in so cal for a training camp , and much less condusive to injuries. And as far as the giants last year they got hot and took advantage of our depleted and incompetent secondary. That wont be happening this year.

Not only does Southern California have a football team to follow, but they have a pretty good one that went to the AFC Championship game last season. That's a pretty lame excuse when the truth is that California is a better place to spend your summer than Texas. Last time I checked Nebraska doesn't have any pro football teams either but there's a pretty obvious reason why JJ didn't decide to move training camp to Omaha.

So HBO still does the training camp series, but Showtime gets "Inside the NFL"?

That's a little goofy, you'd think Showtime would've bougjt both properties.

What a slap in the face to Dallas Cowboys fans. Great move, Jerry. BTW, southern californians do have a team to follow, the chargers. JJ has such an ego.
