On Wednesday, word broke that the Green Bay Packers believe that the Minnesota Vikings tampered with quarterback Brett Favre.
On Thursday, the Vikings refused to talk about the situation.
Vikings spokesman Bob Hagan said that the team is “not commenting on the issue,” and that “[t]hese types of matters are handled by the league.”
Meanwhile, John Clayton of ESPN.com reports that the Packers believe that they have a strong case (hmmm . . . that sounds familiar). Clayton also says that one source suggested that Favre might have had a conversation with Vikings coach Brad Childress. (That sounds familiar, too.)
At this point, it’s unclear how things will unfold. For more analysis of it, we present a PFTV segment.

I don’t blame them one bit. This is 100% on the Packers right now. If the Vikings are guilty, then they need to pay dues. But it’s completely up to the Packers to prove it.

Bob GAGMAN should release the following statement,
We regret getting caught red handed. Brad Childress has never been invited to a Mensa meeting and today shows just another reason why.
We really really want to win. That’s why we paid Berriman way to much money and don’t forget the fact that we mortgaged our future (again) in signing a DE who is one DUI from watching us from his living room. We have consistently signed the Packers retreads have they have passed their prime (Sharper, Ferguson, Shortwell) so why should Favre be any different to use. Please excuse our sorry franchise and we promise not to scalp any more Superbowl tickets or book another Love Cruise.

As VikingMafia already pointed out, Childress is the most by-the-book coach in the league. There is no way he would risk entering into the Favre mess. My guess is that Favre is the one who initiated any conversation and if the league pulls the trigger on that,I will forever hate the NFL front office. The whole Lance Briggs thing seems questionable at best to me, so I wonder exactly what the NFL’s protocall is.

Subj: Operation “Smoke Screen”
It has come to our attention that a certain former QB of ours continues to use his Packers Cell Phone. That being said, we have had a chance to review the cell phone numbers calls to and from the phone. As it turns out, a pattern of conversations is noted to and from the number noted to be his former offensive coach, now on the staff at our rivals, the Vikings.
We have found this event fortuitous, since this evidence would tend to substantiate an allegation of tampering by the Vikes through their offensive coach, Darrell Bevell. While we have no knowledge of the discussions by these old friends and former associates, we can use the circumstance to launch our newest summer PR campaign, “Operation Smoke Screen”!
We will make allegation to the league of tampering by the Vikes. It will takes months to unravel the details. Meanwhile, we will get my rusty dusty, and that of the team, off of the proverbial “hot seat”. We have all felt some recent discomfort as news outlets and blogger sites across the country (spearheaded by PFT DOT COM) have fanned the flames of scrutiny about our relations with a certain former QB.
Operation Smoke Screen should do the trick, take the heat off, and deflect media attention until some time close to the regular season home opener here at Lambeau. We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it, but meanwhile we’ll suffer a lot fewer protesters and bloggers telling us to “FREE BRETT FAVRE!!!!” Thanks and best regardsm

You’ve got to hand it to Favre. He’s torpedoed the Packers, the Vikings, and his legacy all with one shot. Way to go.

Oh JimmySmith - your spot-on nicknames are really making me roll on the floor and laugh out loud….. Bob Hagan = Bob GAGMAN. Genius! What an idiot Packer fan you are - drinking the Champagne of Beers and coming up with those clever nicknames. “Shortwell” instead of Longwell - Ha Ha Ha….No nicknames for Sharper and Ferguson? What’s wrong with you?
What I don’t understand is that you forgot about the Vikings retread that the Pack had on it’s roster last year - Koren Robinson. Or, as we liked to call the Pack receivers - “Donald Driver and Drunken Driver.”
Seems to me that the Pack even signed him knowing he was suspended. Hmmmm - Jared Allen may have had a couple of DUIs, but at last check, he is not suspended.
You show your ignorance in believing that there was tampering. Most of the Cheeseheads without sh!t-for-brains have posted in other threads that they realize that the Pack front office is using this ruse (go ahead, look it up in the dictionary) to shift the media’s attention off of them.
Moron.

Hey Zygi Milf- There is a HUGE difference between signing Koren Robinson and Jared Allen. Shame on you for being a typical dumb Vikings fan who looks through purple color glasses. First of all Robinson cost them nothing AND they weren’t counting on him being any more than a #5 receiver. Thompson drafted him, knew him as a person, decided that he was on his last chance, got help that he needed and felt comfortable with signing him to a contract that was favorable to the Packers if they did need to cut him.
The Vikings made Robinson their #1 receiver, paid him a ton of money and then prayed he would conquer his demons. This was after he caught only 22 passes the previous year. Question?? What team makes a guy their #1 receiver and pays them accordingly after production like that? Oh wait…the same team that drafts Troy “Stone Hands” Williamson and makes a chump like Bernard Berrian the 4th highest paid receiver in the game, even though he’s never had a 1000 yard season and is a one trick pony at best. He would be lucky to even crack the top 30 receivers in the NFL!
Now on to Jared Allen…. The Vikings paid a crap load of money, draft picks and took a huge gamble on a guy who has proven to be ridiculously stupid in the short time he’s been in the NFL. How can you compare the risk and reward between the Allen and Berrian signing vs. the Packers signing of Robinson? That’s right, you can’t! This of course is the same Vikings team that single handedly turned the Cowboys into 3 time SB champs with their ridiculous Herschel Walker trade. Some things never change and with the Vikings that’s been their moniker for decades, along with being the biggest choke job team in NFL history. 4 SB losses, 15-1 season wide right choke job and who can forget the 41-0 shellacking by the Giants in the playoffs. Kinda reminiscent of last years 34-0 ass kicking!

Excuse me URNotMe - I was referring to another one of JimmySmith’s stupid posts. He mentioned the Vikings signing of Packer retreads - I reminded him of one of the Vikings retreads.
He mentioned Jared Allen and DUIs, and it just happened to be a fact that it involves that same retread.
I am not comparing either of them. Sure, it was a no risk signing for Thompson. I’m not criticizing Thompson, or the Packers, for that matter. I’m critizing typical Packer fans - many of whom get offended when anyone says something negative about their precious Favre.
And now, here you are - comparing Mike Lynn’s idiotic trade for Herschel Walker to Jared Allen? Not even close.
