Retired receiver Tim Brown, who is destined to have a bust that shares space in Canton with a bronze sculpture of Brett Favre, says that Favre should remain retired.
Brown told Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times that there’s “absolutely, positively no way” that Favre will return to the Green Bay Packers. And Brown indicates that the Packers not only don’t want Favre now, but that they didn’t want him in 2007.
“I don’t think he serves himself or anybody any good by coming back,” Brown said. ”Bottom line is this: If this was anybody else, this wouldn’t be a conversation, because they’d be like, ‘Man, you’re retired. Go on about your business. What’s wrong with you?’
“But because it’s Brett Favre and it’s the legendary quarterback, everybody’s having these conversations. He puts the team and his teammates in a position where they have to say the right thing. You can’t say anything bad about Brett Favre publicly. Are you kidding me? Who are you to say something bad about Brett Favre? But I know for a fact that the organization doesn’t want him back. They didn’t want him there last year.”
Wow. It’s a strong statement, and we’d love to know more about the basis for Brown’s conclusion.
Brown also thinks that the current problem has its roots in the fact that there’s no one close to Favre who can tell him that he needs to stay on his farm in Mississippi.
“Everybody goes through what he’s going through where you say, ‘I’m going back. I can still do it,’ “ Brown said. ”But it takes somebody around you to say, ‘No, you’re not. I remember what you said at the end of the season, and you’re not going back.’
“Obviously, [Favre] doesn’t have anybody around him to tell him that.”

Tey didn’t want him back last year? He was the single largest reason they made it to the championship game. Jeez Tim. Maybe you should STFU since it has nothing to do with you? Are you jealous because you couldn’t come back? Pipe down and go back to playing with your millions. Can’t believe this kind of crap can make it on to a respectable website. Oh. Wait a minute…
Wonder what Ocho thinks about this whole thing?

MF - your take on this article infuriates me.
You castigated Tony Dungy when he opined about Favre. But you laud the comments of a retired (and not even a Packer) receiver when he, too, expresses an opinion.
Why the double standard? Because Dungy is still an active member of the NFL? Because Dungy is a coach? Because Dungy is Dungy?
I’d really like to know. But it still seems to me that people - all people - are entitled to their opinion and, if they want to give it, no skin off my teeth. I can 1) agree with all or part of it; and/or 2) disagree with all or part of it; and/or 3) ignore all or part of it.
What really irks me is that your website is BUILT on the premise of opinion. Let’s face it - PFT is approximately 10% fact and 90% “here’s what I think”. I enjoy your writing but, geez, it’s time to minimize the judgemental tone.
Just one man’s opinion.

Wow, as people who read the comments of PFT know, I’ve been allllllll over Brett Favre because of his indecisiveness.
But this rant by Tim Brown is ludicrous, idiotic, and ridiculous. Favre threw for over 4,000 yards and had a QB rating of 95.7. He was going to be the starting quarterback for the NFC pro bowl squad.
Not wanting Favre back makes no sense in itself. Saying it serves no one good for him to comeback is a false argument. It would serve the Packers good. If Favre stunk, then that would be another story. But he doesn’t. And I don’t mean for his career accomplishments … I mean the man can play now.
He absolutely deserves to get dissed for his retirement antics. No matter what the Packers said before, the ball was in his court, and he did not need to initially retire. I’m sure all would have went smoothly from there.
But what Tim Brown said crossed the line. He’s wrong — and ought to be ashamed of himself and embarrassed.

Tim Brown still talks to Charles Woodson, so if you’re looking for who his possible source into the Packers, look no further than the former Raider Charles Woodson.

The problem is, Favre hasn’t planned for retirement. He doesn’t have a media gig waiting for him — he’s not sufficiently articulate for that sort of job, anyway — and he can only ride around on his tractor in Mississippi for so long before he’ll get terminally bored.
Is it any wonder he feels the “itch” to come back for another season? He has nowhere else to go.

That’s great Tim, But I don’t think you served yourself any good leaving the Raiders and playing one unproductive year (24 catches) for the Bucs in 2004. You played 17 years and some may have thought you overstayed your welcome as well. In my opinion it is a cowardly opinion from a guy who basically did the same thing (with the exception of “retiring” for a couple months. Besides everyone was saying Favre would be back when he “retired”, so what is everyone so suprised about. Lastly, I can guarentee that Tim Brown wasn’t second in MVP voting his last year in Oakland.
On the other hand if the Packers don’t want Favre anymore, fine, but for a guy second in MVP votes last year it is preposterous. Brett stop being a baby then and honor your contract. If they don’t want you they will find a way to get something for you. If you don’t like who they trade you to, then shut up and retire. We all know you can play, but you are not bigger than the league.
Brett Favre should be the starting quarterback for the Packers this year. Period.

That’s a strong statement. I’ve got an uncle on the inside of the team who told me the same thing. Favre’s a dope, but he’s not the bad guy here. Thompson really wants to put his stamp on green bay…and take Brett’s off.

I think Brown fails to realize that in the year or two he was gone from the NFL, Favre regained some magic and then had an awesome year last season. While Brown on the other hand was awful trying to hang on way past his time in Tampa, not gaining separation from LB’s underneath or faircatching every returnable punt, he is the LAST person that should talk about somebody overstaying their welcome in the league.

If the packers think farve isn’t nfl capable anymore. Why don’t they just trade him.
CAuse they know he’s still good.
The packers sound like the republican party. Totally bullsheet and couldn’t care less about anything but making a buck. Course the dems are the same way.
Just trade Farve and be done with it you chicken sheet peckers.
Sounds like brown might be a butt kisser with the nfl. Anyone know why brown might be angling to be a butt kisser. Does the nfl owe him any money.

Tim Brown aren’t you being kind of a hypocrite? Didn’t you ask the Raiders for your release because you didn’t want to take a smaller role? this is just what Favre is doing. he doesnt want to be a backup shouldn’t be a backup and can play at a hig level. so if you say that the Packers didn’t want him in 2007 (i would like to see where you came up with this info) then shouldn’t they allow one of the allow time greats to go and continue to play. I love the packers and favre. and i agree with favre that if the packers want to move on let Favre move on.

Tim Brown’s year as a Tampa Bay Buc gives him absolutely no room to talk. Atleast theres an argument that Favre can still play at a high level. Tim Brown stretched his career past where he could play, who is he to say Farve shouldnt play.

There are no comments at this time; so let me say this:
Dear Tim Brown-
Excuse me,Mr. Brown, maybe if you were a factor in your only SUPER BOWL appearance, then people would respect your garbage-ass opinion. You were quoted as saying that TAMPA isn’t a
FOOTBALL TOWN”, when in acuallity, our city and the surrounding areas produce the best football players on EARTH (M. IRVIN, W. SAPP, D. BROOKS. etc).
It’s very courageous of Brown to Frown upon Favre
s Tampa Resurection, however Tampa is the only team that favors Favre
s versatility and has an overpowering defense.
In my prospective, there’s only two teams in the running for Favre: Tampa and Washington. No AFC team can bring him in and no NFC North team will get him.
TAMPA HOSS

Wow, nice to hear from Tim Brown again, very soft spoken and a player who was not one to talk shit or get invovled with other players lives.Which speaks volumes…He’s right. If any other NFL player pulled this stunt he wouldnt even be covered by the “NFL NETWORK” but Brett Favre… is blah blah blah….i will say this im a huge Favre fan hes old school not the primadonna types that we have now.But as much as i may respect him…he f**ked up…he “HE” retired…and then GB installed Aaron Rodgers as the starter and drafted Henne…the had to move on… and to bad Brett, NOW you wanna come back and the Packers should drop everything they did to welcome you back… no FCK that.. he is like Peter Boyle’s character on Everybody love Raymond. Its all about him.Tuff luck Brett.Peace welcome to the Panthers and your 7-9 record….serves you right prick. And this is coming from a Favre fan, who is a Raider fan (not a GB fan) so i can just imagine what this story is doing to his Legacy…SHOULD HAVE STAYED RETIRED….
