@lt2_3: That’s correct, and you’re right there is a big difference, but Florio or ESPN didn’t get anything wrong. Savage reportedly said he will start the season (not preseason) on the PUP.

for help if you want to continue your career.
i don’t care what they say,this is by far the most ridiculous
series of events in medicine,not being able to control
a bacterial infection when you know it’s coming is tragic.

A study this year funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that more than 59 percent of all skin infections in U.S. emergency rooms have been caused by MRSA. The staph, which enters through lesions in the skin and grows best in damp areas, has confounded doctors and pharmacists looking for an antibiotic to fight it.

The proportion of infections due to MRSA ranged from 15 percent to as high as 74 percent in some hospitals, the study showed.

In the summer of 2006, after five Redskins players were infected, the team had its practice facility sprayed with a sterilizing agent that controls the growth of bacteria and mold. The club also installed new carpeting and painted the locker room, weight room, training room and other areas at Redskins Park in Ashburn, Va. In addition, benches in the locker room were replaced with individual wooden stools for each player, and a 15-year-old whirlpool bath was removed.

The team has had no incidents of staph since.

Jurevicius is the sixth Browns player in four year to contract a staph infection. Other Browns players who have contracted staph infections over the last four years are center LeCharles Bentley, tight end Kellen Winslow, receiver Braylon Edwards, and former Browns safety Brian Russell and linebacker Ben Taylor.

Bentley still is trying to return from complications from the staph infection that required three additional surgeries following the reconstruction of his torn patella tendon in July 2006.

The Browns’ alarming rise in staph cases brought the club to request assistance from the Cleveland Clinic, its healthcare provider and a sponsor. Infection-control officials from the Clinic visited the Browns’ facility in October 2005 and July 2006 for basic prevention purposes.

The Clinic concluded the team was following proper procedure and CDC recommendations to prevent staph and that the five cases involving players were unrelated.

Start that sentence with any team in the NFL-

If you lose your starting WR and or your #2 and or your starting TE, you may have some questions about your depth? no crap.

Joe J.’s play on the field may be missed, but with a large group of very talented, and very young receivers, his veteran leadership is what will be mostly missed.

That’s 6 players in 4 years brought down with staph infections. And two of them (LeCharles Bentley and Jurevicius) could have their careers ended by this? I’m a long time Steelers fan, but even I wouldn’t wish that kind of scourge on the Mistakes By The Lake.

You may want to check on your PUP list designations. In the preseason, a player can come off the PUP list at any time. While on the PUP list during preseason, they can’t participate in team drills and don’t count against the 80 man roster.

The regular season PUP list is a different thing. For a player to eligible, they must have been on the preseason PUP list for the entire preseason. That is the point where they wouldn’t be eligible to play until after week 6.

So, in other words, Jurevicius can come off the preseason PUP list up until they make the final roster cuts to 53 and be eligible for the entiire season.

Why does it seem like the Browns have more staph infections than the rest of the NFL combined?

Hasn’t this thrown up red flags for people, or at least the players?

Maybe it’s coincidence. Maybe.

But I do know that if I were a Browns player that needed surgery, I’d consider pushing to have the surgery / rehab done offsite and by another doctor, even if it meant covering the costs out of my own pocket.

Because for a pro athlete, their health is their career.

I hope Jurevicius recovers, it would suck to have a career ended by complications related to an infection.

Other teams should be so lucky to worry about getting a backup for Edwards/Stallworth/Windsolw.

Look at Miami. Their starters are, what, Ted Ginn and Ernest Wilford?

Saying this injury raises questions is an overstatement. The Browns will be fine.
