bob, the pack apparently owns the cellfone bf has been using to make calls to the VIKINGS. unless he is "double agent 004" intent on taking down doofus brad childress et al, then he just may have handed roger more incriminating info than he had on the niners/briggs tampering situation.

lets see the transcripts and that will determine if it was reasonable to say the vikes tampered. i am inclined to suggest that the pack gave bf a lot of leeway hoping something mutually agreeable could be worked out. and that they finally had their fill.

if it was all friendly fone calls, i would agree that the pack should get their hand slapped instead, but i didnt see that happen to the pats or the bears.

someone sure has a bias against "suits". some unresolved anger, eh?

bf has flip flopped a bunch since the end of the last season. t2 is keeping quiet and for all i know he is king a-hole. but at what point does the verbal diarrhea of bf get analyzed for what it is...

If, as some other posters are suggesting, this was a "pre-emptive strike" or a tactic designed to scare the Vikes away, ala the Lance Briggs/S.F. situation, would the cheese then be subject to disciplianary action?
It would seem to me that division rivals can't just accuse one another of tampering whenever they see fit...
Thoughts?

"they filed it pretty quick, actually. either they have some good info or it was a “preemptive strike”.

packers may not be able to prove tampering beyond a reasonable doubt. but it looks like a reasonable thing to accuse the vikings of doing. "

yeah right. just because a suit working for the cheapskate packers makes a statement that means its true.

favre cleary said that thompson lied saying favre never tried to gety the cheapskates to sign randy moss. so lying is not beyond them.

i remember last year the falcons and espn all defending michael vick and pushing issue aside. i dont believe anything any suit and tie working for a big business says.

Patriots?

Do you think Bill Belichck would be so stupid to start a battle with his star QB Brady like the jealous old loser Thompson is trying to do. When it's all said and done, you can stick a fork in Thompson's belly, he'll be well done!

screaming sheep says:

Actually, Junior Seau was under contract. I believe he had signed the deal with San Diego so he could retire a Charger.

----------------------------------------------------------

Players who do this generally sign a one day contract to retire with their old team. So, Junior was most likely not under contract when he had any discussions with the Pats.

Of course, it was probably Favre who thought he was using some leverage on Thompson by saying "If you don't want me, just give me my release, 'cause the Vikings told me they'd want me". He should just stay hiding behind his Mother's skirt and let let her and his brother do his talking for him. When he talks, he manages to send his friend Bevell and his former center Campen down the river, and he burns his bridges by calling his Head Coach and GM liars. Brett, that "itch" you feel is down your backside - stay home and scratch it.

yes favre stepped in it. he talked tough especially on tv trying to get out in front of the pack in the public eye, with some pure bs.

instead, t2 called his bluff. tampering. by a so-called hall of famer.

wanna bet the pakc have taken better notes thru all this? they own the rights to fave playing for 2 years. bf's echo chamber can cry for him to be released all they want. a better idea would be to tell bf he has been a dumbass himself. lets see what team's signal caller goes down in camp/preseason, because that is where he would likely go.

in bf's mind, do any rules apply to this prima donna?

he said he retired. even if the packers ended that fone call immediately by saying "ok thanks bye click", he retired. they moved on. now he is perturbating them just because he can and because his echo chamber wants another payday. there is no child out there like a 40 year old child, folks.

Brett's contract was setup to lessen a cap-hit whenever he may retire -- The bonus money is only around 1.4million for these last 2 years. The contract still has 2 years 25 million left on it.

The Player no longer has to file retirement paperwork, you only have to claim you have retired. The Packers put Favre on the Reserve/Retired list on April 25th. 2 months after his retirement press conference he held in early March where he clearly said he was retiring. Brett is now forced to ask the NFL Commish to be re-instated.

As far as Brett filing retirement papers, it doesn't matter.

The Packers placed him on the reserve/retired list. That makes him retired. This happened just a bit before the draft iirc, which seems like it coincides with the canceled trip the last time he was unretiring, then staying retired.

You know what, this is just another attempt by the GB front office to smear Brett Favre. They already know they are NOT going to release him via cutting him and they already know they are NOT going to trade him to the Vikings or Bears. So why file the tampering charges, especially if they dont have hardcore evidence? A ploy by TT to make Favre look like hes trying to go to the Vikings and crush little Packer hearts. ITs crap

All I know is I'm surprised no one has found a way to blame the Patriots for this. You know how long it has been since a Patriots cheated story has been out there? This is a record. Maybe the Patriots paid farve to do this... wag the dog.

ESPY AWARDS LAST NIGHT

Ted Thompson didn't win any keeping his record intact for NEVER winning anything.

BUT

Embattled quarterback Brett Favre was honored with an ESPY for Best Record Breaking Performance. He snapped Dan Marino's mark for most career touchdown passes.

A few points. Someone asked if there was any bonus money left on the final 2 years of the Favre contract. I am 99% sure the answer to that is ‘no’.

We know that the team made the allegation last week from the Fox report. My suspicion is also that the source for the Packers’ claim is Favre himself. I reckon that Favre blurted out that Bevell had stated that the Vikings would be interested in him in the infamous conference call he had with McCarthy and Thompson on 8th July. If that’s the case, and Favre confirms this when the league investigates, then the Vikings could be in trouble.

Tampering is hard to prove, but a big part of that is that normally the player involved keeps his mouth shut – because clearly they don’t want to compromise relations with a potential new team paying them a lot of money. But if Favre has already flapped to the Packers, then he’s either going to have to sing the same tune to the league or admit that he was lying to the Packers. If he does the latter, then it’s going to undermine his leverage – bear in mind he has accused the Packers of telling half truths to him and to the public in the Fox interview.

Given the current acrimony between Favre and the Packers, if Favre confirms the team’s allegation that might be enough evidence for the league to act against the Vikings. If my hypothesis that the source for this is Favre himself is correct, then I think it’s quite a shrewd move by the Packers either way.

The Milwaukee J-S is reporting that the Packers have provided the league with evidence and information, and that they believe the case against the Vikings is strong.

As for Bevell, if he’s discussed Favre playing for the Vikings, then it was foolish (albeit that he would be somewhat unlucky to get caught). Sure, everyone has buddies on other teams, but you can’t discuss stuff like this. Even if Favre brought it up, Bevell should have refused to discuss the matter. Really, it’s a matter of professionalism.

Actually, Junior Seau was under contract. I believe he had signed the deal with San Diego so he could retire a Charger.

But why does the following work: Vested veteran, unhappy with your contract and wanna skip camp, but don't want to be fined?

Retire just before camp starts and unretire when camp is over. No more fines!

I was hoping for a peaceful resolution to the whole Favre saga. I am a Vikings fan, on Sunday’s I loathe the packers. But I have always been a Favre fan, the approach that he took to the game. No matter how sore he was, no matter how many times he was treated like a human piñata he was in the game. You have to admire someone who sticks with something when most others would throw up a white flag and quit. But now more than ever Favre should stick up for himself and his friends. The Packers are attacking Brett and trying a smear campaign against the Vikings. Go Brett file your reinstatement papers. Show up to camp, they will not want you there, but you owe it to yourself to make things right. They will have to start you or pay you an ungodly sum to sit on the bench, or they might have to cut you. You have a 66.66% chance of getting the desired results that you want. And even if things don’t turn out the way you would like them to, you will still have $12,000,000.00 more in the bank then you did when you started the year. I think the best thing you could do for Darrell is take up precious cap room and prevent the Packers from signing key free agents. Oh wait, that’s right Green Bay has no desire to sign free agents.

If tampering consists of "inappropriate contact", then the Vikings should turn around and file tampering charges for "inappropriate contact" against all 31 other teams in the NFL. The NFL is a small world, players and coaches all have close personal friends on other teams who they stay in contact with. Bevell, Sharper, Longwell, Ferguson are all personal friends of Favre's. Every veteran player on every roster has personal friends on other teams... if they have made one phone call, or attended one golf game with any those individuals, than those teams have as much of a provable tampering case against every other team in the NFL, as the Packers do against the Vikings.

Wrathchild, you are just another person who posts on here like he knows what he's talking about when you really don't. Favre NEVER filed his retirement papers and said so in his interview. Get your facts straight! It's no wonder how so many rumors start. There are so many people who claim to be NFL experts that blab about things they know nothing about or don't have their facts straight!

This is a load of Cr@p. Green Bay is trying to smear Favre’s name into the ground. And also raise suspicion of wrong doing in the event that they do cut him and he signs with the Vikings. That way they can say "look, see Cheaters… Cheaters" And then All the fans in Green Bay will say that Favre was stolen from them by Minnesota. All the blame shifts to us instead of inept management taking the blame.

Will Brett Favre just go away!!! This is planet Earth not planet Madden. We don't care about old, washed up QBs. Enjoy your fall from grace Brett. I always knew you were selfish and now I'm glad the rest of the world can see it first hand as well. Cry Baby Brett has always thought he is bigger than the whole Green Bay franchise. Way to go Brett!

This would not be unFavrelike. He just threw his buddy James Campen under the bus yesterday.

It is curious that this happens just after Favre's appearance on Fox. It looks like an effort to take the heat off the Packers and make Favre look like the bad guy. No one in this soap opera is looking very good right now. I almost miss the Terrell Owens drama of past seasons.

"Not to mention he never filed his retirement papers, did he?"

Yes, he did file his retirement papers, but it's irrelevant anyway, the Packers still own his rights either way.

Anyway, do the Packers have to prove anything, or does the league just do their own investigation? I'm assuming that investigation would at least mean interviewing the Packers' management to find out what they know.

If the Packers don't really have to provide much evidence, then this could just be chaff.

Virtually impossible to prove, but I would not put it past him that this may be closer to the truth.

Talk about the Madden curse screwing things up... I just want to see it in Cheeseland and leave the Vikings alone. Please!

Well, I guess the righteous fans out there will soon be calling for an asterisk next to the Vikings this season for cheating on the tampering rule.

Didn't the NFL dock the Dolphins a first round pick for cheating via tampering in their "perfect season" as well?

With Goodell's "get tough" policy I'd expect he'll be even harsher on such cheaters now.

With Goodell’s “get tough” policy I’d expect he’ll be even harsher on such cheaters now.

Maybe the Vikings just want Favre to stop by to see what an actual Super Bowl ring looks like.

Wisconsin does not fall into Lake Michigan because Minnesota sucks!

It does come across as a preemptive move by a paranoid Packer front office based on rumor.

I no doubt Brett Favre talks with many of his former teammates and coaches. But if the Packers claim his talks with Darrell Bevell are a recruiting call, it does work to scare the Vikings away because Favre signing with Minnesota would appear to prove this charge true.

The ironic part in all this is I don't think the Vikings are really as interested in Favre as Ted Thompson's paranoid illusions. It's really just a media speculation because the Vikings are the best team without an established veteran starter at QB.

But Favre really doesn't fit in with what Brad Childress is doing. Childress wants a conservative QB to manage the game, make a few plays as needed, and not hurt the team by gambling or making ill-advised passes. Plus Childress in a control freak. The last thing he wants is a media circus and locker room disruption. Don't forget Childress was the O coordinator when the T.O. fiasco happened in Philly. I don't see him going out of his way to bring the same atmosphere to the Vikings.

I hope Bevell didn't call Farve or Bus Cook to have a friendly, non football related conversation. That is obviously enough evidence to support tampering. Just ask the Niners...

Who says they have hard evidence? All they may be trying to do is scare the Vikings off.

Brett Favre. The gift that keeps on giving. He may go down, but he's taking half of the NFC North with him.

"How in the hell did the Packers know that Darrell Bevell and Favre were engaged in “inappropriate dialogue”?"

Good question. No matter what, this really ought to force the issue and get it over with.

they filed it pretty quick, actually. either they have some good info or it was a "preemptive strike".

packers may not be able to prove tampering beyond a reasonable doubt. but it looks like a reasonable thing to accuse the vikings of doing.
