Our buddy Todd Wright of Sporting News Radio has alerted us to an item in the Indianapolis Star regarding the Colts’ new stadium, which opens next month.
Some of the seats have, to put it mildly, an obstructed view. Who designed the place, a drunken fifth-grader?

Man - if I shelled out good money and found out my seats were behind the Colts official stadium speakers (theirs go to 11!) I’d be pissed!

You know what is worse than the obstructed view? Those are the speakers they use to pipe in crowd noise.

Hey I bet if you show the Offense on the Field from that angle, you can still see Peytons head from both sides of the pillar at the same time… hell, if those seats are facing Southeast, you can probably still see him while playing the titans!

why would indy fans pay for seats where they can’t see anything. Are these seats close to the liquor or hotdog stands. I knew indy fans are out of it. But this is a bit much.

… I also love the cup holder placed in the back of the seats in front of you. So they’re basically guaranteeing that people will splash and spill their beverages on those people below them. What’s wrong with the cup holder in the armrest of the seat the ticketholder is sitting in?

Luckily you’ll have to buy a personal seat license first before enjoying the view

You know your good when people ahte on you. Here’s your answer haters: During a media tour on Tuesday, the word was that these seats are in a section that could someday go away in order to make way for more suites when the Super Bowl comes to town.

I think they mentioned that there’s supposed to be two lab-monkeys illustrating the the action on the field with cave drawings on those pillars. Don’t worry. It’s all been planned out.
The Colts should be ashamed of themselves.

It’s nice to see the NFL is starting to warm to the idea of “throw back” stadiums, which MLB has been using with success for over a decade. Unfortunaley, they decided to use Cleveland’s old Municiple Stadium as their template. I can therefore only assume that the designer also included bathtubs in the restrooms to use as the communal trough. There is strangley something missing in the “new” stadiums when you can’t look straight ahead at the person relieving himself while staring straght back at you. Long live the retro-staduim revolution!

We have some extra tarps you can use, but the teal might clash with the blue.

So they’re not selling the seats that are “totally obstructed” and the seats that are “partially obstructed” will only be sold after every other seat has been sold. Presumably a person inquiring about the seat will be informed that he will have an obstructed view before he buys the seat. As far as I know this is not an uncommon thing in sports stadiums and arenas.
Furthermore, I’d hate to have any of the other seats in the building if those posts were not there.
This is a whole lot of crap over nothing.
This is what makes the sports pages in Indianapolis during the Triple-A All-Star Break.

Re: cupholders - unlike modern movie theatres, stadium seats have limited width and installing a cupholder that way would create even less room for the fan.
Re: obstructed seats - these will definitely be sold to someone that just wants to get inside the stadium without paying and arm and a leg. If they weren’t going to be used they would have just taken them out.
