Mike Francesa may be pushing the idea of a trade that lands Brett Favre with Dan Snyder’s club but David Elfin of the Washington Times is hearing otherwise.
In an article today, Elfin quotes multiple sources who think that there’s little chance of Favre playing quarterback in Jim Zorn’s West Coast offense. One thinks that if Favre is traded it will only be to an AFC club while the other says that “there’s zero chance. Why would you do that for one year? I think Brett plays in Green Bay or he doesn’t play.”
There’s a contrasting view offered, however, which revolves around Snyder’s fondness for making a big splash when it comes to acquiring players. Would he be able to resist the biggest ticket item to come on the market since he bought the team? Elfin spoke to yet another source who indicated that the Packers’ dream scenario is one pitting Snyder against Falcons owner Arthur Blank in a bidding war for Favre’s services.
Snyder’s penchant for the big move and Zorn’s offensive scheme mean that the Redskins make sense as a destination for Favre. The wildly divergent viewpoints, however, mean that no one’s got a clue about how this whole mess is going to end up.

Afew days ago Michael Smith of ESPN predicted the Redskins as Favre’s landing place for the following reasons…
1) Snyder likes the big names.
2) Zorn briefly coached Favre in GB, so Favre will be more familiar with his offense in his first year than Campbell, who will be learning his 3rd offense since joining the league, so they would like to maybe give him a year on the bench to learn it.
3) The Redskins are one of those good but not great teams that Favre would be praised for if he takes them over the top to win the super bowl, but not blamed if they don’t.
It seems like a good fit.

Obviously. All stupid speculation at this point.

Now this is more like it! Wasn’t the original source a reader? Doesn’t seem like a very “in-the-know” pipeline of information. My inside tip is that Brett Farve is working out a 10 year deal with an unknown CFL team where he will play until the tender young age of 74.

If the Redskins trade for Favre, ill puke in my mouth.
Florio: If they do this I think you need to create a spot on your All Turd team for a owner as well as a GM.
Why set back Jason Campbell a year, just to play a Favre for one year at a high price?
Favre , no disrespect but stay home and mow your lawn dude.

Wouldn’t it be hilarious if the Falcons actually expressed interest in Favre? I think it would be far preferrable to throwing Collins to the wolves this season.

Several days ago I outlined (in the comments) why this makes sense. The word out of Redskins park is that Zorn is not happy with Campbell. And he is, for some reason, infatuated with Colt. Perfect scenario, bring in Favre let him run the team for two years while Brennan learns the offense. Trade Campbell to Chicago for two defensive linemen and a conditional pick.
Why Campbell to Chicago? Ron Turner’s offense needs a big QB who can see over the line to throw the slants and stretch the defense with the long ball. And is fairly similar to Al Borges offense at Auburn. Campbell would be a perfect fit for that team.
Personally I say keep Campbell. I think he is going to be a good QB. But, it does work (minus salary cap)

One little kink in this grand plan here. Last time I checked Washington did not have $12 million in available cap space so they would have to trade a #1 AND give him a new contract for *1 year*? Last time I checked they have virtually no cap space so they’d have to cut players or do some funky deal that will get them in even more trouble in 09 than they already are in, given the 09 salary rules by virtue of the fact it is the ‘year before an uncapped year’ in the CBA and special rules apply to how bonus and guaranteed money is handled.
That and I seriously doubt they would want to bench Campbell through yet another year of his rookie contract.
It just doesn’t make sense. As a Cowboy fan I sincerely hope they do it though.

Great, then he can be in the same town as the Original King of Flip-Flopping, John Kerry. If they get a 1st round pick I’ll drive to Green Bay and help saw down the locker myself. I’ll always wear my #4 Packers jersey for what he accomplished on the field, not for the embarrasing way he carries himself off of it.

As a Cowboy fan I absolutely love this move, if it happens.
The Redskins will further ruin their cap and further ruin the development of Jason Campbell. I really like Campbell and respect his game. I think it would be pretty stupid of lil’ Jerry Snyder to do this, thus I wouldn’t put it past him.
I’m sure Snyder is awaiting TomKat’s insight on this matter.

Who’s Collins? Don’t you mean Ryan.
Anyway, I can’t see the Pack trading Favre within the conference. As a listener of WFAN, I’ve learned that Mike Francesa is only on the money with NFL rumors when it involves Bill Parcells. The reason being, Mike is close friends with the Tuna. As for other “inside” scoops, he’s usually off the mark.

I hope he doesn’t end up in San Diego. That would be terrifying. The only missing piece for the Bolts is a QB who doesn’t throw like a 12 year old girl. Are you listening, Phyllis Rivers?

I understand that Favre wants to play and is competitor and all that. But I think if Packers don’t give him release, trade him or start him, then he will just show up and collect his 12 Million this year. He will call Packers’ bluff on that. Might as well show up next year too and collect the 12 Million again. Packers would probably cave in. Holding clipboard for 12 Million per is not so bad and Packers will not allow that anyways. Seems like Packers want what they can’t have - Favre to be retired. They don’t want to pay him 12 million per year to be back up, they don’t want him to start, they don’t want to release him, and they don’t want to trade him unless they get big value in return. But ultimately they will have to pay him all pro type money to sit the bench. I would be happy with any of those options if I were Favre, especially considering that he will be sticking it to the Packers more than they to him if he sits the bench. It is an ego and emotional battle between Favre and front office, but he has the upper hand.

haha i was talking to my friend about favre earlier and hes thinks the bolts are the perfect spot for favre. Problem is it wont happen when the team is already behind rivers, its not westcoast offense and I dont think they are ready to give up on rivers and feel like they got the shitty end of the stick from that draft specially with eli winning a SB and drew brees actually looking pretty good elsewhere

I love how these typical idiot Cryboys fans prove that their only joy in life is to bash other teams.
Joe Gibbs owned you guys in the 80s and he came back as an old man and owned you again!!
So I know you’re bitter, but let us Redskins fans do the bashing of our owner and how he’s followed Jerry Jones’ lead of destroying professional football for everyone.
NJerry Jones has turned YOUR team into a bunch of criminal thugs, just like your so called ‘glory’ teams of the 90s.
Even if you manage to win the superbowl, or a playoff game for the first time in over a DECADE, or even hold a post game press conference without crying like a baby, you KNOW it’s with a set of classless players.
Winning without honor is an unseasoned dish… it may satisfy your hunger, but it won’t taste good.
