According to the Tampa Tribune, free-agent running back Kevin Jones, a first-round pick of the Lions in 2004, will sign with either the Pittsburgh Steelers or the Chicago Bears on Tuesday.
The news came from Jones’ agent, Tony Fleming, who indicated that the list of five interested teams (including the Buccaneers) has been narrowed to two.
The Bears are an obvious choice, given that they cut their own first-round failure, Cedric Benson, and have not replaced him with a veteran tailback. The Steelers seem to be a more unusual option, given that they have Willie Parker and 2008 first-round selection Rashard Mendenhall.

Maybe the Steelers are just trying to put their name in the news for something other than selling their souls to the devil… or they think Kevin Jones is cool

If the Bears can give him an incentive laden contract, this would be a great signing. I’ve watched Jones since he was at VaTech and he’s always had a lot of talent. If he can get back to being healthy, this would be one of the best pickups of the offseason in the NFL. I hope that can happen.
Let’s go BEARS!!!!!

Well look at it this way, last time Steelers had 3 running backs to start the season, they won the Super Bowl. Duce Staley (injuered in camp), The Bus (also injured in camp), and Willie Parker.
But in all seriousness, if KJ went to the Steelers, I’d predict alot of special teams (which wouldn’t be a bad thing for Pit), and alot of end of game wind it down stuff.

PGH signed Barlow last year, then cut him. This year, they have Parker, Mendenhall, Mewelde Moore, and Gary Russell. Carey Davis, the FB, also can carry. I see Jones going to the Bears–Steelers don’t play the Lions twice a year, and staying the division is a better way to remind the Lions what they are missing out on. That is, of course, if Jones actually gets meaningful carries and makes the most of it…

i bet the steelers are in the mix because kevin jones grew up close to pittsburgh where he played his high school football. He was one of the highest rated RB prospects in the country coming out of high school.

kevin jones grew up close to pittsburgh and played his high school ball in pennsylvania. he was one of the highest rated prospects coming out of high school in the state. i bet that has a lot to do with him being interested in the steelers.

kevin jones went to cardinal o’hara i beleive. I know because when I was freshman in highschool he was the biggest thing I had ever seen besides Victor Hobson, who played for my highschool and is now a Patriot.
Cardinal O’hara is a good 8 hours from Pittsburgh. So unless he moved near Philly when he was 14 (I’m 90% sure he didn’t) , he is not from that area and that is not his motivation.

Plax18, since when is the other side of the state close to pittsburgh. Kevin Jones grew up in Chester which is 10 min from Philly not pittsburgh. He played at Cardinal O’Hara High school which is not near Pittsburgh. He played basketball with me and i am not near pittsburgh. Folks, here is a prime example of Pittsburgh dopes and their idiotic fanbase.

Going to the Bears would be the smart choice and he can prove that the lions were wrong about him, by running all over that defense twice a year.

Maybe the Steelers are looking to bring Jones in because they plan to deal FWP…I’d be thrilled if that scenario played out…

@BBenSuperman
Why on earth would you be excited if the dealt Willie Parker?
This guy is a stud. Now that he has someone to complement him, the run game will be as strong as ever.

It shouldn’t take 6-8hrs to drive across the state of PA. It’s not TX.

It makes sense if the Steelers aren’t sold on Parker’s health behind a suspect OL, and a rookie’s ability to carry the full load all year.

I like to have seen him in Pit as a Hokies fan and Steelers fan . However the Steelers are HIGH on Gary Russell and with FWP and RM and MM no way they sign him . Probably looked just incase on injury to a RB would happen during the year .
