@ girty you said.. “Almost every NFL QB is like that, so Favre is nothing new”

There are 31 other starting QBs in the league, and none of them eats up more press coverage than “LORD FARVE”

Can't agree more...even if you count all of Manning's ads and Brady/Gisele sightings, it's still not close.

Wow, the division of the fans is amazing. I note that more Green bay fans are angry with favre over this travesty than the typical homer type who worships the ground he walks upon. Good for you Green bay fans, it is always great to know that the typical fan up north has a clear understanding of the situation and won't allow their vision to be cleared from a few goey moments from one player.
For those fans who don't seem to grasp the situation let me provide some help, Brett Favre and Ted Thompson are both at fault. THis has already been noted but apparently ignored by the homer fans. This story is immensely entertaining to me and I expierenced my 49ers change of qb from Montana to young, and then to Garcia. I have watched great qbs leave by force and injury. I have also watched a team implode from a horrid head coach hiring (Curse Dennis Erickson). The homer fans need to accept that Lord Favre has moved on, his skills andlove of the game are no longer as great as they once were. What a majority of you need to do is pay attention to what is available.
The insults thrown at Aaron Rodgers are amazing, no fan can claim that he can't take them far. Haven't any of you ever heard of an experienced back up that has ridden the bench waiting for his turn step forward and win it all. If you haven't, remember Kurt Warner of the Rams and Tom Brady of the Patriots stepped in and did amazing. I am not saying that Rodgers will be the next Brady, but he has the same chances. Rodgers has had several years to sit on the bench and learn (Brady had 2 years, Warner several). The best situation any team can experience is the drafting of a qb and letting him learn first and then putting him in to play. Most teams would love to play competetivly first and then release a talented player after a few years. As a 49er fan I would trade you teams (you can keep your logo) right now, Aaron Rodgers is a talented pro style qb that I predict will do very well if he can start. Of course you Homers just want to run him out of town, but what happens if he leaves and becomes great somewhere else? I bet you blame Ted Thompson for that too.

Why is everyone so freaked. Lots of players throughout the league ask their coaches and GMs to sign players. Some coaches and GMs even ask some of the players what they think about certain players. Even happens in real life. Get real people.

Some of the moves or non-move Thompson made were pure stupidity. For example, in hindsight Randy Moss could have been the difference last year.

I personally think Thompson is not very good and has an ego the size of some countries. Almost every NFL QB is like that, so Favre is nothing new.

How's that hole look down there with Tiki, Brett?

I thought this cowboy would ride off into the sunset, but I should've known how he dragged on his decision last year.

lancelow4,

Is your loyalty to the Packers or to Brett Favre? If it's to Favre then turn in the colors and just get a bunch of Favre T-shirts made in black & white.

And Favre comes off looking like more of a tool on video than he does in print. Then you can see his interview is nothing more than candy cane journalism that was scripted with an obvious agenda to make Favre appear in a good light. That's why he chose a Wisconsin native, packers "shareholder", and family acquaintence to conduct the "interview". LOL. Everybody all over the media today is talking about how fake that interview was. Even Peter King said today on Colin Cowherd that Favre is being intentionally hazy in his assessment of the situation while ignoring many pertinent facts. So funny that for all Favre's insinuation that the Packers haven't been honest with him...........he's not pointed out a single inconsistency in what they've said. He just throws it out there without offering any alternate information. I wish I were conducting that interview instead of Greta Van Susteren. Favre would never be able to show his face in public again after i'm done with him.

Here's hoping the Gravedigger buries Favre's ass at the induction ceremonies at Lambeau Saturday.

The Packers won their last Superbowl because 1. Desmond Howard was fantabulous in the return game (which is why HE, not Favre, won the SB MVP) and, 2. Reggie White set a SB record of 3 sacks.

I've always loved watching Favre play but this long-time Packer fan and shareholder and ticket holder wants him gone. It would be impossible to bring him back now because he whipped up on McCarthy, Thompson, the receivers on the team, and the Packer organization in general.

As John Dean said: "There's a cancer growing....."

Favre should be the GM! Forget Thompson. Whats he done? One good draft since 05. FIRE HIM!!!!!!! The packers GM should have the job title changed to Favre's official marble gargler. If he doesn't want to do it I bet you can find a few thousand in Wisconson willing to do the job for a lot less (the bikini girls come to mind).

RE: all the people who are saying that their teams do what THEY want them to do about Brady and Manning: if Brady had whined all the time to the press about his WRs, you might have a point. If Brady dressed in his own lockerroom instead of with his teammates, you might have a point. If Brady had demanded the actual amount of $$ he deserves for being the league's best QB instead of taking a bit less so his team could remain competitive, you might have a point. If Brady demanded more of his teammates than he requires from himself like Favre does ("Javon honor your contract and report to minicamp but I sure am not in minicamp") then you might have a point. Need I continue?

You have a point about Manning though, who was asked point blank by Letterman once if he would take a discount so the Colts could re-sign Edge as he had been publicly campaigning for and he wouldn't give a straight answer. And he DOES have two lockers and throw his teammates under the bus publicly. lol

8 years of Rodgers !! hahahahahah The guy broke a foot playing one quarter. Then he told you to get behind him or shut your mouth. Well you can have that awesome quarterback, bud.
Now that I think about it, Favre should come back as a backup in Green Bay. He'll be in the game before the first half is up. I'd buy a ticket to Cirque de Fav-re before I'd buy one for the presumed 8 year house of horrors in the years to come.

I have no loyalties to anyone in this mess but I do know this I'm sick and tired of BF and his moaning and whining and I'm even more tired of the media - all of them - making it possible by keeping his name in the limelight. Bret...you WERE a great QB (may even have a year left, who knows?) but YOU decided to retire so DO IT !!

I think when you actually hear the interview instead of reading just the parts this ding dong wants you to see, you'll understand a bit more. Or maybe not. Some people just like to hear themselves rag about the the best thing that's ever happened to Packers football since Vince Lombardi.
Don't be blinded by the bright white hair. The smart ones here that live Packers football know that TT is playing dirty. I will not lose my loyalty to the guy that changed my team. Favre deserves better.

Why don't we cut him? don't be obtuse. He still has value and this year could hurt us on another team.

We have a qb, groomed for 3 years now, who has shown a lot of promise (There is some assumption there, but I think if he hadn't, Brett would be unretired and the Cirque de Fav-re wouldn't be ongoing). If Favre comes back now, Rodgers is gone. So they have a choice between one year of Favre, or say, eight years of Rodgers. Let's say he turns out as good as Mark Brunell did (since he was a Favre backup). Which is better, one year of Favre, or eight of Brunell?

And yeah, Thompson's lying about Brett being on the roster as a backup. Because it's a personnel decision and it's about leverage. If GB says that they'll cut him, then Favre can just refuse every trade until that happens, then hop a plane (boat?) to Minneapolis. They told him to send a list of teams to trade to. It's a game of chicken. He'll lose. I believe the overwhelming majority of fans would rather have him sitting on our sidelines pouting, then suited up in purple for his jersey retiring, even at $12 million.

In fact, they should retire his jersey while he's there holding the clipboard. Act like he's not on the roster. Someone needs to make this happen.

I still think the best way to solve this is to wait and see IF Brett shows up for camp. IF he does, put him on injured reserve. IF he decides to comeback next year, do it again. That is worth it just to keep the pressure and cry baby influence off Rodgers/Brohm.

One thing I take issue with here is "Randy Moss's tasteless mooning incident". from what I read this is a tradition that the Packer fans bestow on visiting teams when they arrive or leave on the team bus (they moon them for real). Moss was simply giving some of it back to the fans, this is after all a great rivalry no? Is that tasteless? Unless the story I read was wrong don't hate on the guy because he was having fun with the fans, you sound like Joe Buck, that guy is a freaking clown!

"...move on when Brett says you can move on."

This is exactly the position that TT has allowed to take place, and he's finally begun to think about putting his foot down. His actual error here is that he hasn't been putting his foot down emphatically enough. This crap about being a backup is just silly.

Anyway, Favre DID say they could move on, so TT did. They drafted another set of QBs and are ready to get the guy in that looked pretty good last year in limited time. And as soon as Aaron Rodgers starts to assert himself... Brett Favre comes rolling around, with his family "leaking" the idea that he might want to play again.

TT hasn't been a perfect GM with regards to Brett Favre, but it's not because he's rebuffed Favre - it's that he's been a p*ssy about it. Virtually everything else Thompson has done has been the correct thing. Their finances are tight, their team is one of the elite teams in the NFC even with Aaron Rodgers (see footballoutsiders.com).

Put your foot down, Thompson! The more you hem and haw about it, the more leverage and opportunity you give for Favre to undermine you. Get it over with and trade him for a third-round/second-round conditional pick. There's nothing Favre can do about it except keep squawking and lowering his trade value; he can either retire, or play for the team you send him to.

It's almost like Thompson is hoping Favre will file the retirement papers AFTER he's declared that he wants to play. Fat chance. And it's almost like Favre expects Thompson to release him to play for the Vikings. Yea, fat chance. Time to start getting warmed up for your Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Brett.

"First of all. All of you who aren’t Packer fans should zip it."

Yeah okay. Actually, Packers fans are the ones who should STFU. At least WE can look at the issue with an un-biased and objective perspective. All the Favre Homers (doesn't seem to be too many of you) are placing the player before the team. What's happening to Brett Favre is in the best interest of the Green Bay Packers' "big picture". You Favre-worshippers should be siding with the Packers.....who will be there trying to compete long after Brett Favre is gone. You don't sabatoge the future of the team so one egomaniac QB can get another year squeezed into his career. Hell, the vast majority of Packers fans seem to be siding with the Packers.

And yes, Brett Favre has lied to the media and lied to the fans. He said last night he's "never envisioned playing with another team"......and yet he asked for his release (because he doesn't envision playing for another team of course). And now we're hearing reports that he may be headed for Washington. Yep, he's never thought about playing for anybody else. LOL. SO FUNNY that all Favre's brain-dead sheep followers aren't sticking it to him for ending his career with another team. Brett has done this to himself, nobody has done this to him.

But keep staging those rallies, maybe by the time training camp rolls around you might actually have attracted more than a couple hundred people cumulatively. Green Bay has moved on from Brett Favre.

"You have a new, ego driven, GM in T.T. who is trying to control the team and create whatever his vision may be."

Heaven's no! A general manager who - gasp! - wants to control the team AND SHAPE IT INTO HIS VISION?! Please, stop Ted Thompson before he lets Mike McCarty call the plays on the field!

Moss hung up on the Packers when they let him know he had to keep his behavior in check in GB before a potential trade at the time, plus over half the Packer fans did NOT want Moss due to his tasteless mooning incident at Lambeau. Thats why Moss isn't a Packer. Get over it 4.

Both sides need to swallow some pride as its best for all that he starts in GB this year. Give Rodgers a new contract. If he's a bust he's a bust but we can't afford to lose him. He was expecting to sit this year anyway as everyone was surprised that favre retired with such a good team on hand.

Let me get this straight. You bash the GM for not getting you Randy Moss yet you have one of your best years, statistically, have the NFC Championship game AT HOME in a blizzard and throw a wounded duck that gets picked off in OT and leads to the winning FG...then you say you don't have it in you anymore for what is required Mon-Sat in the NFL but later say you retired early because you felt pressured by the organization to make a decision? Mr Favre, as a budding GM, you should know that it's important to know who will be coming back next year so that you can make the proper adjustments to your roster in the offseason...

As a Brett Favre fan this is a very disappointing way to end an otherwise HOF career. Unfortunately, it probably sheds some light on what kind of a 'team' player he really was.

Let's see Favre want's to tell the team who to hire as for as players hell he even want's to tell them you to have for GM and HC.

If everyone takes a real good look at what Favre has said over the past since the hiring TT it becomes evident that Favre wants it the way it used to be,not having to go to OTA's hardly any parcipatation at training camp.

There is no question Favre wants it like it was with the old coaching staff where it was what ever Favre boy wants Favre boy gets

Ok, I'm a Packer fan to the death and I love[d] Brett. That said, who in the hell does he think he is? The way he's talking, it's like everyone should "consult" him before make any decisions whatsoever regarding the team. He IS NOT the Packers! Unfortunately, he thinks that everything revolves around him. It's time to shut up and disappear on his land. He has irreparably damaged his image and "legacy" permanently. He could have been remembered as a legend and now he looks like a DIVA.

Oh, Favre, we need to paint the walls in Lambeau's restrooms, what color do you want us to use?

You know, Brett Favre knows that he's not the General Manager. So, let's not get into that. And, don't complain that he's doing that. Someone on here wrote earlier exactly what winning teams do using the example that if Tom Brady wants Randy Moss, he gets him. Unfortunately, I agree with that, and that was written by a Patriots fan...but that's neither here nor there. Brett should be taken on his ability(one), his extensive knowledge of the game(two), and what components he knows he needs to succeed(three). Good teams do this! They listen to their quarterback's needs.

What really matters is that this is all Ted Thompson to Ted Thompson. He drafted Aaron Rodgers and these other two quarterbacks this year and wants to see the fruits of his GM position. He is turning Green Bay into a corporate entity which is fine, but that's not what Green Bay is about. So, if he wants to do that he needs to go somewhere else. Green Bay is about empty streets on Sundays, watching football huddled together with blankets at Lambeau, wearing "Cheese-heads", Green Bay is about passion for football, Green Bay is about Brett Favre.

Here's Ted's dilemma: He's got an expensive unproven QB, He's got a proven veteran QB that's also expensive, and he just signed two rookie QB's in case said expensive unproven QB fails. No-one uses 4 QB's(unless you're the 49ers a couple years ago.) He made the Randy Moss mistake by not signing him cheap when Brett wanted him. And, the big AND, he's starting to trash-talk Brett Favre through the head coach Mike McCarthy. Who does that?

Every move that Ted has made and is making digs a deeper grave for himself. He's not going to win this one. He's going to have to go. He might win the immediate battle of wills, but the fan base is going to revolt and be in upheaval against him, similar to that of Matt Millen(Lions GM.) If you want to move on, move on when Brett says you can move on, not before.

Brett Favre is not being a diva as some have put it or trying to get un-necessary attention either. He's just trying to do what's right for him and defend himself after being backed in a corner by Ted Thompson. Not letting the man play Ted? Not releasing him? Come on. He's not your slave...he's not a slave period. Right now, if Ted Thompson denies Favre whatever he wants he'll be a hunted man. If Brett wants to play for another team and stinks, who cares? He'll enjoy it and get out, but let him do it on his terms.

I'm as sick of this story as everyone else is. I remember thinking when he "retired" that it didn't make any sense. It's one thing to go out on a great season or on top of the mountain, but to go out throwing a god awful pass in the NFC title game in OT, nobody wants to end a career like that, especially not a first ballot HOF. I'm fine with the Pack saying they're done with him and yes Favre is making himself look worse by the day. That being said the Pack can not not have their cake and eat it too. Everyone knows that he is the best QB they have right now but it sounds like an open competition will not be a fair one. Can anyone see MM/TT letting him take back the reigns after all this crap?

If you have no intentions on letting him play you have to cut him or try and get the best value you can get from him. Favre's agent should be creative, have him traded to the AFC in a wink wink deal and move him from there back into the North. Everyone else in the country wants this to happen.

As much as an idiot he's coming off as he can clearly still get it done, let the guy play, see if he can come back to Lambeu and kick your ass. If he's not your #1 than you should be able to handle it.

"Brett was lied to and is only guilty of changing his mind."

Please remove Brett's jock strap from your head. Even assuming TT did not do something as promised (read: "as Brett Farve wanted"), why are TT actions considered "lying" while Brett's actions are merely considered "chaning [ones] mind".

Did Brett not promise he was retiring? Did Brett not reiterate that position to TT when TT asked him if he was considering coming back in the offseason? Please, Brett is the one who put Brett and the Packers in this position. I realize your president of the Brett Favre fan club but considering Favre's actions over the past three offseasons, its undeniable that Brett Favre loves him some Brett Favre and thats about it.

Memo to all you who say "they should have signed Moss -- that Favre is right about that?"

Oh ya, based on what? The Patriots with Randy Moss won a bunch of meaningless regular season games and then collapsed in the Super Bowl. And, they also had Wes Welker and Donte Stallworth, too, not to mention a great O-line.

Seems like Thompson got the Packers the talent that almost got them the same result -- without the huge headache that Randy Moss would have been in GB. And, you know Favre -- with a guy like Moss on the field, Favre would have had 10 more INTs, at least, as every time he felt "pressure", he would be sure to make another wounded duck, ill-advised pass to Moss, who would be triple-covered every play.

Once again...all you haters. Rivera and Wahle were dominating in our system even though they didn't do much elsewhere. Here they were the best in the league and after they left, the Packers line was horrible for years. Brett was beat to a pulp with the replacements.

About the coach, at the time, who knew MaCarthy was so good. All he was saying is that he pushed for Mooch, TT led him to believe he was agreeing with Brett and went elsewhere. You don't hear Brett complaining about our coach now. Wake up. That's not what he's saying...he's saying, TT lied his little white head off and blew off all of his suggestions.

He should have a small say in things. Tom Brady does. Montana did. Peyton does. Brett turned this franchise around and you can't even let him give an opinion? Wow. Come on Packer fans. Don't let this pinheads article sway you against the best thing that's ever happened to the Pack.

And TT should be flogged by the whole Moss thing. Brett offers to give him part of his salary and you lowball the guy with a joke offer. Right!

Stop letting these guys that write these articles get to you. They're doing it just to have you read their crap. Stop questioning your loyalty to Favre and stop listening to all these armchair bonehead reporters who write here even though they..A...are not Packer fans or B....don't know the facts.

"There is not a GM in the NFL who did not blow it by not offering the Raiders a 3rd rounder for Moss since the Pats got him for a 4th and he set the record for TDs."

You're forgetting the fact that Moss was going to go only where he wanted to go.

Since I'm a Pats fan, I remember the Randy Moss trade very well. New England was realistically the only team who could have signed him. They were the only team he was willing to renegotiate his contract for. He wants to go to a team that had a change at the playoffs/super bowl. I believe the previous year the Packers had only won 4 games. Brett, I agree that you should be the starting QB of the Packers right now. I think you're more proven and better than anyone else they've got at the position, but stop blaming the GM for his inability to sign one player who had no interest in going there in the first place.

I think you’re more proven and better than anyone else they’ve got at the position, but stop blaming the GM for his inability to sign one player who had no interest in going there in the first place.

I've always hated the way Brett Favre played. Guy just heaves up the rock; hopes something good happens. In his 13th year -- or even in his "last" season (2008 edition) -- the guy always has moments of pure desperation, when he forgets he's an aging athlete on a field of juiced-up science experiments(hey, look at Donovan McNabb today versus 2000 -- is that just Campbell Soup that's made him look, ahem, much more "muscular"? See -- I sh*t where I eat, too, cuz I'm a Philly fan!!). I have marvelled at a "what a great leader" the guy is, and what "a great quarterback" -- because that's what John Madden and Peter King of told me (so it must be right, eh?!). B-S!!!

Now, I can legitimately hate Brett Favre, even more than I did after the 2006 season, when it was this same parade of "oh, what will BRETT do? Will he or won't he? Will he let his team know before the draft? Oh, it's June and we still don't know about poor Brett... is his heart in it anymore? Does the team LOVE HIM unconditionally? Why did the girl in college get upset when he walked into the room, drunk on like 6 or 7 beers and with his penis exposed, wanting sex? .... Ooops! Sorry! Wrong late-round QB I'm talking about there ... I almost thought we were talking about the Redskins again!! Sorry about that!!!

Anyway, back on "oh, is Ted Thompson wiping the immortal ass of Brett Favre the right way?!" Let's ask Brett's brother, Dip-shiztz "Coat-tails" Favre, what he thinks:

"I think that Brett has been hosed here [burp!]. The Packers didn't even really try to get Randy Moss last year -- they wanted to put in some 'good behavior' clauses into his contract, like his mooning the fans in Lambeau was all that big of a deal [fart!]. I means, his teammates, his receivers and that O-Line, they just suck SO BAD. And the fans, man, who would want to play another decade in that Godforesaken place. It ranks of rotten cheese. [Burp! Fart!] They just all so suck. But if they would just let him role the franchise, like in "Madden: Franchise", he might come back for a couple of games. Oh, and they gotta put his very smarty bro in a the coach job two."

Ya, when I read that over at Brett's "Official Web Site", I just finally had it. Green Bay fans should recall, as the Diety Brett Favre too should note, that football is a "team game", including the coaching and support staffs that make it all possible for a guy to play like 17 years -- instead of sucking in all-time obscurity as a back-up as Brett did before G.B got him.

What is going on with Mr. Favre here? GM's are the ones that make the decisions for what players are best for the team, not the players. Use as example one Michael Jordan. MJ never had a say in the players that came to Chicago and they played just fine. Suddenly he gets GM jobs in Washington and Charlotte and every draft pick sucks! There is a reason that there is a division of labor between the players playing the game and the guys making the decisions on who those players should be for each team. On his whinning about Moss, there is no guarantee that Moss would have been as good in Green Bay as he is in New England. He could have decided he hated cheese and complained about being in Wisconsin because of it!

Actually, Thompson did more than get lucky on some draft picks. He knew when to cut ties with Javon Walker (great decision), he was one of the few teams willing to pay Woodson that kind of money (great move), he let Ahman Green walk last season (good move), etc.

If you look at their starters (not touching the QB one), Thompson made a shrewd trade for the RB and underrated signing for the TE, drafted the FB, one WR, two interior OL, one DT (Jolly or Harrell, whoever starts) two LBs, both Safeties (actually, Bigby was an UDFA I believe), and the kicker, and also made another good signing in Pickett. That's all since 2005. I call that a great start.

McCarthy has proven to be a good coach.
Wahle and Rivera have proven to be over the hill.
The Packers' WR corp has proven to be a top 5 group.

I love you, Brett; but it's a damn good thing Ted doesn't listen to you.

Bf wasn't the gm and doesn't get credit for personnel decisions either way.

He looks like an indecisive fool.

Can u see a bart starr acting this way?

He is trying to also drive a wedge into the locker room and who knows how that will play out after this year.

It's all about him, his ego is as big as all outdoors.

Why should non-Pack fans zip it? We don't want that idiot on our team either.

Besides, I believe I see more anti-Favre posts than pro-Favre posts from Packers fans. Believe me, I live close enough to Wisconsin to smell it, and apparently cheeseheads know bullsh!t when they smell it, too - or at least when they've been wading in it for 16 years.

Being a huge Packers fan, I always treasured each game I attended that BF was the quarterback. I enjoyed watching him as a player immensely.

I am frustrated with BOTH sides at this point. Favre, I am sick and tired of hearing from your family, family friends and other "sources". Packers, is there a way out where BF can save face?

Randy Moss? Brett through over 4000 yards last year, RM would not have made a difference, in fact, one could argue because we did not have just one target we are a much better team to spread the passing yards around.

Stick to what you know Brett! Way to go TT

Thompson's job is to run the team and deal with personal issues. He is doing a crappy job with it right now. He thought the 'problem' will go away on it's own. It hasn't and not dealing with the drama each season is biting him in the ass.
