Packers G.M. Ted Thompson might have been feeling neglected while he watched on Monday night Part One of the Brett Favre interview. After all, it was coach Mike McCarthy and not Thompson who was mentioned most often by Brett, primarily with respect to the perceived effort to force him to decide whether to retire in March and then with respect to the attempt to persuade him not to press for a chance to return with another team in June.
But Thompson gets his share of attention, in Part Two.
According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Favre slams Thompson in the segment that will air Tuesday night on Fox News, and Favre points to three incidents that caused him to not trust Thompson.
First was Favre’s desire that the team add receiver Randy Moss in 2007. We reported, numerous times, that Favre was actively lobbying the team to acquire Moss after two failed seasons with the Raiders. There was also a rumor that the team’s failure to try to land the star receiver, who revived his career in a big way with the Patriots last season, prompted Favre to make noise about leaving the team. Though it’s still unclear whether the latter proposition is accurate, it’s now obvious that Favre wanted Moss — and that Favre didn’t appreciate Thompson’s decision not to be honest about that fact with the public.
“I worked my butt off . . . to try to get them to sign Randy Moss,” Favre told Fox News.
Second, Favre says he tried to get Thompson to re-sign guards Marco Rivera and Mike Wahle, both of whom left via free agency.
Third, Favre pushed hard for Thompson to consider hiring former 49ers and Lions coach Steve Mariucci, but Thompson rebuffed Brett, hiring Mike McCarthy instead.
“[N]one of those had anything to do with me retiring once again,” Favre says, “but, you know, it’s hard for me to trust, you know, this guy when I — either I’m told one thing and everyone else is told another, or he’s telling the public one thing and telling me another. And so — and that’s part of the reason for the [request for a] release.”
So Favre didn’t retire from the Packers because of mistrust for Thompson, but now Favre wants out in part because he doesn’t trust Thompson.
But, Brett, didn’t you say you want out because the Packers told you that they don’t want you to play?
More importantly, Brett, when did you become the quarterback/General Manager of the Packers?
Maybe we finally understand why Favre kept quiet for so long on this topic. Now that he’s opening his mouth, he’s sounding like an idiot.
Regarding this apparent effort to smear Thompson by dredging up outdated and irrelevant pisses and/or moans, Favre needs to realize that he hasn’t always been truthful, either. On July 2, for example, he said that the talk of his desire to return is “rumor” and that there’s “[n]o reason for it.”
So before Brett says “you know, it’s hard for me to trust, you know, this guy when I — either I’m told one thing and everyone else is told another, or he’s telling the public one thing and telling me another,” Favre should ask “this guy” in the mirror whether he has been doing the very same thing.

Wow, I didn’t know Brett was in charge of calling the biz plays as well (hiring coach, signing players, etc.) Man, he is all about himself, if he doesn’t get his way he pulls a tantrum and accuse everyone of lying to him.
What a narcissistic turd. I’ve lost all repsect for him…and I did have a quite a bit.

I could not agree with Florio’s article more. When did
Brett become the General Manager. Thompson made the right
decisions as last season exemplifies. Brett had enough
time the throw and his receivers were collectively amoung
the best in the league. Brett needs to just shut up! It
may be that Thompson is correct on his call for who should
be the starting Quarterback this season.
Brett needs to find a daytime soap opera to lend his
current abilities.

What a little bitch. You’re an overpaid, overrated QB, dummy. Not a GM. If you couldn’t play football, you’d be mowing my lawn. Stop trying to act like you’re intelligent.

Good points well made. This soap opera needs an ending. Maybe the reason teams aren’t beating down the door or ‘expressing interest’ as in the Baltimore Ravens case is because Favre has this reputation. Hall of Fame QB? Check? Team owner/GM? Don’t think so. I would love to see him here in Tampa, but I can’t imagine Gruden going nuts on the guy ( the full on F-bomb flying Chucky face ) after an interception the way he does with everyone else. Why did Greta get the better lighting in that interview? Favre looked like he was under a flashlight!

This one you nailed, Mike. Thanks for printing the truth. Favre thought he could play GM just like when Sheman was there. We all saw what happened in the Sherman/Favre era.
Thompson surrounded Favre with players who will be good long after Favre is gone, and this is the thanks he gets.

Ted Thompson has completely revamped a weak Packers roster the past 4 years. Wasnt it Brett Favre himself, that said at the beginning of camp last year, that this was the best Packer team he has ever been on - including 1996!! Is Ted Thompson to blame for that too?
Brett, sorry man, you can not have it both ways.

He should’ve stuck to letting mommy do his talking.
“The GM who turned a 4-12 team into a 13-3 team around me didn’t listen to my personnel moves! How can I trust him? He didn’t sign my receiver last year and the ones I had weren’t any good!”
I still believe his whole goal has been to get out of Green Bay this offseason, and when he found out it wasn’t too late in late March, he flipflopped. What other players does Bus represent? He tried to lure Moss to GB and having the same agent was part of that. Is he now trying to join someone else with that same connection?
I sure as hell hope Frank Winters has told Brett thanks but no thanks on the induction.

This just goes to show how selfish Favre is. Moss??? He’s still with that?
Favre was in the NFC championship without Moss. They lost to Giants in Lambeau. Would Moss have helped the Packers win that game in Lambeau? Moss could not help a better team and QB defeat the Giants on a better surface and climate.
Favre wanted Moss for one reason….He knows he could inflate his stats and do what he loves to do best, just throw the ball up for grabs.
That’s all football has become to him. Just throw it around and not utilize the teams strengths and a balanced attack. He wants it to be all about him.

Sign the letter and send it to Goodell if you want to play or stop this.
If he sends the letter and shows up for camp they will have to start him or trade him.
That is the next step.
The rest of this is silly.
S#@$ or get off the pot.

Completely agree Florio. Over the past couple months, my perception of Favre has changed. After every season, he would keep people guessing whether he would return or not. During those times, i thought he was sincere and was truly torn about whether he wanted to play more. Now it has become glaringly clear how attention starved and self absorbed this guy really is. As a Vikings fan, I became a little interested in the possibility of acquiring Favre when all this speculation started. But any team that acquires him will have to go through similar messes over the next couple of years and I don’t think the distraction is worth the possible upside. Eventually age has to have an effect on ability.

I couldn’t agree more… At this point I can see him going down the Ocho Cinco, Mike McKenzie, and Javon Walker route on how to get out of town. Perhaps he’s a bit more media savvy by trying to make himself out to be the victim. Come on, we have caught on to this game you play.

Favre would have a great point with all of this if Thompson hadn’t taken an incredibly crappy team and turned them around very quickly. They have a good young team that was one retarded throw, from Brett Favre!, away from being in the SB.

Haha. Looking at Bus Cook’s page to see who he represents, the front page contains this first line of text.
“Loyalty is one of Favre’s most endearing traits. ”
unless, of course, you don’t sign the players he wants…
btw, the only non-QB, non-Randy Moss client to jump out at me was Fred Smoot. Cornerback, Minnesota Vikings.
Which is where you have to assume Brett wants to go anyway, since he won’t provide a trade list, knowing they won’t trade him to the hated rival.
If, somehow, he does in Minnesota, I hope they still retire his jersey, performing almost a eulogy for his legacy, etc.

What a load of guano. Favre can force the Packers hand by asking to be taken off the retired list, but he hasn’t done it. It looks more and more like the whole thing is charade crafted by Favre to make Thompson look bad.
He has no real intention of playing this year and never did, and he’s going to a lot of trouble for some petty vendetta. He needs to get over it and get over himself. When he makes his inevitable HoF acceptance speech, they shouldn’t give him the jacket, they should make him wear a baby bonnet.

yeah what a jackass favre is being….he wants to sign or re-sign guys who he feels would help him win football games. what-a-jerk! TT has done a pretty good job of rebuilding this football team but if he is the guy who forces favre out of town ( and it is quite clear he is trying-has done that) then he is in serious danger in green bay! especially if rodgers and or brohm cant get it done.

last i checked, the packers have a great young receiving corps without having to spend the type of money a randy moss would command. last i checked, mariucci was out of a job while mccarthy just took them into the playoffs and if it weren’t for favre, possibly the superbowl.
maybe favre should look back at these “incidents” and call it a wash since it’s clear he doesn’t know what he’s talking about…

Things that make you say….hmmmmmmmmmmm. I think this relationship is over and that they need to part ways. Give the old guy his release and work something out with Tampa Bay who has Chris Simms, ya know the thing called “trade”. Neither one are happy with their teams and it sounds like a good deal to me! Sims still has upside and packers just need a verteran backup and Brett is old but still has a little left in the tank. TRADE BABY!!!!
