In February, defensive end Fred Dean secured election into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
One of the teams for which he played will be duplicating the honor.
Dean will become the 34th member of the Chargers’ Hall of Fame on October 12. He joined the team as a second-round draft pick in 1975, and was traded to the 49ers during the 1981 season.
“The Chargers Hall of Fame is a great honor for me,” Dean said. “So many of my teammates have made it into the Chargers Hall of Fame, and now I get to join them. It’s very touching to me.”
We know Dean only spent six seasons in San Diego, but it’s a little odd that it took so long for him to get a bust or a placque or a sculpture made out of pasta or whatever they use to commemorate members of the Chargers’ Hall of Fame. Especially since non-household names like Paul Lowe, Keith Lincoln, Chuck Allen, Gary Garrison, Earl Faison, Leslie Duncan, and Don Macek have already been inducted.

they use guacamole here, florio. that green stuff that looks like snot to youse east coasters.
why it took so long?
it has been a long held belief in the community the Spanos family didnt want anything to do with the “old Charger regime” or history and by and large ignored many of the players and or personnel that had an impact in the NFL as a Charger. like Don Coryell.
I think that is more attributed to Alex than Dean Spanos and to even a greater extent Dean’s sons who grew up in the area and with the organization.
Even with that said, the majority expect the team to “bolt” in the very near future.

the chargers have so little to celebrate that they make up stupid shit like a team hall of fame for players who never won a super bowl their entire careers.

alamedaman, don’t be a douche bag. Plenty of teams have a Hall of Fame.
And just because you haven’t heard of any of the players, doesn’t mean the Chargers Community hasn’t. It’s the CHARGERS Hall of Fame, not the NFL Hall of Fame. Who gets in, when they get in, and why they get in is completely up to the organization.
Plus, the Super Bowl argument is a load of crap. Tell Dan Fouts, Kellen Winslow, and Junior Seau that they don’t belong in any Hall of Fame.
Hell, tell Dan Marino, Barry Sanders, Bruce Smith, and Dick Butkus that the lack of a Super Bowl ring should keep them out of the hall as well.
Think before you type and don’t allow your bias against the Chargers make you seem like a blowhard idiot. I’m sure you’re a smart guy who just has a tendency to make stupid comments, but it’s okay, everyone does it once in a while.

It might be time to take an NFL history refresher course if you don’t know who Les “Speedy” Duncan is. I’m sure that course would also remind you that Lincoln and Lowe were two of the finest RBs the AFL had to offer. Playing in the same backfield might have muted some of their numbers, but not their elite talent.
