The player whose head was once broken in a street fight has now broken the bank.
Safety Ken Hamlin, who signed a one-year deal with the Cowboys as an unrestricted free agent in 2007, agreed to terms on a six-year contract. He spent his first four seasons with the Seahawks.
Per the Dallas Morning News, the contract contains $15 million in guaranteed money, and has a total value of $39 million.
The Cowboys had applied the franchise tag to Hamlin earlier this year. If a long-term deal had not been reached by 4:00 p.m. EDT Tuesday, he could have re-signed for one year only.

Money well spent! Yet another risky player that Dallas took a chance on (people forget about him, only want to mention Pacman, TO, and Tank). Good for him.

Got to hand it to the Cowboys, they do take care of their players.
I would like to see a breakdown of how they manage the salary cap - must be pretty creative.

Signing Hamlin to a long term deal actually frees up cap space. He was on the books for $4.4 million with that franchise tender, now it’s $2.1 million. They’ve still got over $10 million worth of cap space. Plenty to sign the rookies and maybe make a run at Ware and/or Canty.

You watched the Cowboys from 1999 to 2006 then you know all about the team’s struggle to deny the deep ball.
Last year I can remember only 2 completions over 35 yards, and one came on the very first Giants series of the very first game of the season.
Hamlin helping the CB’s out over the top was a big part of that, so hopefully if Dallas can keep denying the deep ball and get better at playing the short ball (with the addition of Zach Thomas, Adam Jones, Mike Jenkins, Orlando Scandrick) by improving ILB’er coverage and nickel back play (goodbye, Jacques Reeves!) Dallas should not only finish in the top 10 in overall defense again this year, it could very well finish #1.

Just one more piece to go….(offensive “WOW” receiver).
But I think what they really need is a leader (like Hamlin, Thomas or Ellis) to get in the players faces and keep them on track late in the season. On paper, there may be one or two teams in the entire league with as much talent as the Cowboys. No excuses this year guys. We will accept nothing less than a championship! (Although one damn playoff game would be nice, but hey what’s wrong with going for broke?) Number six baby….I can feel it….this is our year!!!!!

Get Terry Glenn in camp and possibly strike a deal with Phil Simms’ kid and I think this roster is complete.
