With Cris Carter and Trent Dilfer added to the ESPN lineup that covers pro football, we’re hearing that one of them is likely to land on Sunday NFL Countdown, the network’s two-hour pregame show.
Currently, Countdown features Chris Berman, Mike Ditka, Keyshawn Johnson, Tom Jackson, and Emmitt Smith at the main desk, with Chris Mortensen providing league-wide scoops and on-site reporters like Sal Paolantonio, Ed Werder, Rachel Nichols, and Wendy Nix reporting from various NFL stadiums.
It’s possible that Dilfer or Carter would join the current cast. It’s also possible that someone currently on the set could be debacled.

Dilfer in for Emmitt, I hope. Emmitt would get blowed out of the water by Dilfer if rings/greatness on the field didn’t matter.
As for Chris Carter, he’s terrible, he’s no better than Salibury’s steak.

i think espn should keep emmitt as a once-a-week commentator on an important issue. that way, emmitt can put all his extemporaneous talents to use on one important issue per week.
snicker.

Please oh please make it Dilfer if we have to have either of those guys. I really don’t get why Carter has a job. Granted he would fit the analyst who says outlandishly stupid things quota on NFL Countdown.

And I like Berman. He isn’t on all the time, but after watching Football Night in America, I have a far greater appreciation for what he does.

Berman and Jackson make a good team. They could add pretty much anybody with some knowledge and/or personality to the mix…

Please don’t debacle Emmit. Someone that is funny without trying to be is hard to find. I think its called unintendedhumorosity.

It won’t be Emmitt leaving. People will tune in to see what he says next, much like people stop and watch at the scene of an traffic accident (or in Emmitts case, a train wreck). Its human nature.
