At 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, any franchise players who have not signed long-term deals will be permitted to sign one-year contracts only.
As to one of them, it’s unclear whether progress is being made toward a multi-year contract. But at least the two sides are talking.
According to Albert Breer of SportingNews.com, the Titans and defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth plan to talk up to the deadline about something more than a one-year deal. Prior indications were that the Titans and Haynesworth were focusing on adding triggers to his franchise tender that would prevent the team from franchising him again in 2009.
The ballpark of the discussions is unclear. We previously heard, however, that the Titans would be willing to give Haynesworth the same deal Tommie Harris recently got from the Bears. The fact that a deal hasn’t been done along those lines suggests that Haynesworth is aiming much higher than that.
The other unsigned franchise players are Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, Cowboys safety Ken Hamlin, and Ravens defensive end/linebacker Terrell Suggs.

Sign him. Sign him. Sign him. Albert is the cornerstone of the D and he’s worth every penny.

As long as Big Al is not stomping on people’s heads, then he is disrupting the offenses for other teams. He is worth the money, but Titans must keep him motivated and on a short leash.
