It won’t be long before cobalt blue Seahawks jerseys start popping up here in West Virginia, what with former Mountaineers fullback Owen Schmitt now officially a member of the team.

According to Scout.com, Schmitt, a fullback and a fifth-round draft choice, has agreed terms on a four-year deal, which includes the minimum base salaries and a signing bonus of roughly $158,000.  (As with Redskins quarterback Colt Brennan, it appears that Schmitt didn’t receive a fourth-year escalator that would bump the base to the first-round restricted free agency tender if Schmitt reaches certain performance triggers in his first three seasons.)

Schmitt is a living legend to WVU fans, an old-school throwback who cemented his place in the hearts of all West Virginians with this tribute after the Mountaineers shellacked the Oklahoma Sooners in the Fiesta Bowl.
