empty13 says:
I dont believe you Bob, and further if that is true, why would he have asked to be released. And even if that is true then he has the right to compete or ride the pine or wait to get traded.

Firstly John Clayton on ESPN today at 6pm specifically said that Favre has in his contract "the right to veto any trade."

Second question-tonight on Greta's show Favre said "it is a lie that he had asked for his release."

Favre also said on that show that, "he has never handed in the paperwork needed in retirement."

Bottom line here is that Favre still wants to play and TT dosen't want him back with the team. All these interviews that TT is giving are just a way to spin public persecption(especially in GB) in his favor. He dosen't want to be percevied as the guy to run Favre out of town. Quotes like "We've moved on," and "Brett can come back as a back-up," are just rediculous. I mean honestly, what does "we've moved on" even mean. Teams change QBs all the time, not to mention injury. Brett can come back as a back-up, what a freaking joke, everyone knows that. Oh, wait, we've installed a different offensive in favor of Rodgers. Well.......what if he gets hurt, than you adjust your offensive to the corresponding QB. All these comments are just TT way of relieving pressure. If TT honestly believes the Packers are better off with Aaron Rodgers (which I think is wrong)then he should put all the BS aside and say it. It's time for TT to be a man a say how he really feels. Ultimatley the Packers will end up trading Brett. The problem with this is that Brett has a no-trade clause in his contract, so he can kinda pick and choose who the Packers are able to trade him too.

And now for Favre. Yes, he handled this situation like crap and yes, he only is thinking about himself, and yes, he has an ego, and yes, he is a diva. To that I say SO WHAT, if he gives you the best chance to win than you play him. Name me one superstar that dosen't have a huge ego.

It's time for TT to be a man and tell Brett to take a hike(no pun intemded) if that what he feels is best. He'll just have to live with a consequences of his decision....good or bad.

Hey OldSchoolBearFan:
You forgot to mention that you’re a moron. If you’ve followed the Packers at all you could see plain as day that the team has turned around since Thompson took over. And how in the world has he spent a lot of time getting rid of the best players. Name one player that has done well since leaving the Packers. Javon Walker?? Mediocre at best. And look who he replaced him with: three good receivers to help Driver. And the leadership of Favre? You mean the guy who said before this season that he didn’t think he could create chemistry with his young teammates and that it would be a waste of time? You mean the guy who doesn’t show up until training camp and gets carted out the back door when all his other teammates are greeting and signing autographs for all Favre’s beloved fans?

Favre himself has been mediocre at best as well for the past six years. He throws costly interceptions and makes horrible choices. Just look at the picture of the last pass he threw during the NFC championship game. Sure the Packers did well this year but all Favre did was take less chances. The offense was designed for quick, short passes, and then a few long bombs every once in a while. Any decent NFL quarterback can make short passes, even Rodgers, who did better than Favre against the one team better than the Packers in the NFC. The receivers were the ones who did the work for Favre. Find the article on ESPN by Sal Palantonio about how Favre is overhyped. The guy has one season in the top 80 seasons statistically. And that makes him possibly the best player ever? Manning and Brady already have multiple ones in the top 50.

Favre is a self-centered, egocentric b%$*h and should stop causing drama. All this BS about loving the game and the Packers not wanting him back needs to stop. The guys a mediocre quarterback, he’s under contract, and deserves no more than any other player. If he wants to play he should show up. I can’t believe it took everyone else so long to see through Favre.

the packers own his rights. they dont have to release him. they can trade him when they want for what they can get.

--------

no they cant. he has the right to veto any trade they want to make. so it is he who has all the power here with them a frugal team all the team with being stuck to pay him $12 if he sits on their bench.

I think the saddest part for the fans.. Favre is going to BS the camera and the fans, even though it's obvious that he didn't intend on retiring, and planned on trying to force Thompson's hand. How yucky.

*Article Update (7-14-2008) [Favre's a Buccaneer?]

***95% chance Favre will be a Buccaneer this season!
My source, that has secret sources within the Packer organization, says that if Favre comes out of retirement, there is a 95% chance that he will be a Buccaneer this season. The Packers will not release Favre for fear of him joining a team within their division. Supposedly secret talks are already underway discussing details of the trade for Favre to the Bucs.
Green Bay Packers News says that it’s a second round pick and Chris Simms for Favre to the Bucs.

***Breaking News!

It seems as though 288 interceptions just might not be enough for Old Man Lorenzo! What started several months ago with rumors of Lorenzo seeking to join a different team, continue today with rumors of him coming back out of retirement! Perhaps Lorenzo is attempting to force Green Bay’s hand, and get released so he is free to sign with another team?

In a career that spanned 17 seasons and 288 interceptions in the NFL, perhaps it was only fitting that what Favre began with his first NFL pass by throwing an interception, ended rightfully so with his last NFL pass, also an interception. It’s truly a sad day since we know that Farve’s lifelong dream of reaching the 300 interception mark is over. Surely only a single additional season would have been necessary. Every defensive back in the NFL is sad to see you go Lorenzo; catching interceptions won’t be quite so easy with you gone and not slinging the pigskin to the moon. You will always be Mr. 288 in our hearts."

Greta is also a Packer shareholder which means technically she is one of Thompson's bosses. If Thompson thinks Rodgers is the man he should release Brett. What's the problem. It's not like Brett is good enough to sign with the Vikings or Bears and be able to beat the mighty Packers with Rodger's....right? Thompson is a douche.

You guys are idiots. Watch the show. BTW Mike....don't be so pissed that Greta is scooping all you "sports reporters". She's from Wisconsin and is a Packer Shareholder, which means technically she is one of Ted Thompson's Bosses.

If Thompson thinks Rodgers is the man he should be man enough to release him. So what if he lands in Minnesota or Chicago. If he can't beat out Aaron Rodgers then he shouldn't be a threat to Teddy....right?

Hey DarnSkippy,

If your employer had a offseason where they break it down and put it back together each year...

And if you were the key to previous seasons' successes...

You might have a shot!!!!

Farve's will he or won't he saga offseason #2 (or is it 3?),
How big a help or teammate are you when you pull this every
year? And Faux news...guess he don't want educated people
to get the scoop first.

Anyone remember when Favre bad mouthed Javon Walker for not wanting to "honor" his contract? Way to eat your own words Favre.

I have been a lifelong Packers fan and the only qb i ever remember watching was Favre and all my life people have been telling me what a baby he is and how selfish he is. Well for the first time in my life i actually agree. Make him ride the bench all year long, who cares if he eats up cap space, we don't need the 12 mill anyways, not for a couple years anyways.

2006Ruckus says:
I’m through being a Favre appologist. We’re throwing up quite a stink for a QB who has only won 3 playoff games in the past 10 years.

And how many playoff games did the Packers even play in the previous 15 years to Favre first arriving?

Greta's footbal history

A longtime Packers fan she's originally from Wisconsin

Just last week she had Giants Plaxico Burress who is having his own issue with his team right now, Plax was a guest on her show.

And everyone knows that O.J. Simpson launched her TV career many years ago.

Sounds to me that she is currently involved in a serious ratings battle with CNN's Anderson Cooper?

1. As I understand it, Greta is from the People's Republic of Madison, WI.

2. Much of Favre's support is women who have some emotional attachment to him as a hero.

3. Did the Packers disrespect him? They turned the diva's locker into a shrine even though he dressed in a room seperate from his commoner teamates, and set a date to retire his jersey.

4. The Packer coaches and entire team spent the OTA's installing an offense suited to a quarterback with wheels. So are the other 52 players chopped liver?

5. What gaurentee is there that Favre will lead the Pack to a SB, or not get hurt in the 1st quarter of the Viking game, or lose interest after a couple games.

6. Jason Wilde of the Wisconsin State Journal reports that a poll he took showed Packer fans to be 60 to 70% behind TT/MM.

7. The last 8 games that the Favre fans point to as Favre still having it were the games Ryan Grant was racking up 100+ yards rushing.

8. Can Aaron Rodgers be successful as a 1st year QB? Even those who are Favre and not Packer fans can't say he won't with certainty.

9. What do we do next year and the years after that when the prima donna is long gone?

10. If Favre knows who TT should sign to make the Packers successful, (even though they were without his decision making) I would expect if he can ever make up his mind to retire, he'll be swamped with offers to be the GM of many NFL teams.

11. The look in Favre's eyes during the cold weather Bear and Giant games proved he is no longer a match for the Frozen Tundra.

12. I am and always will be a PACKER fan. I pulled for Favre for years, but have lost all respect for him. He's like all the rest - loyal only to himself. He's a Hall of Shame con man.

In the words of the great Vince Lombardi, "Adversity doesn't build character,; it reveals it."

I'm a diehard sports fan. I have always liked Favre. I have always hated the pack. You can't compare T.O. to Favre at all. Nothing at all the same. Really stupid to even suggest it.

It's all P.R.

The organization usually knows this better than the player. It certainly did in this case and now the player is having to play catch up.

I have stated this before. When the "It's All Rumors" beginning of this BS fiasco started, I wanted the Packers to let him compete for the starting position. If the Packers are true to their words, then let the best man win. If that is the case, I would think that Favre would win the starting job. If this is just a BS ruse by the Pack to save some sort of face, then no matter what Favre does, he will be holding a clipboard at 12 MM per year.

Favre doesn't seem to realize that the TEAM hold the cards in this situation. If you are going to "Unretire", then report to camp and let the competition begin. he is not in a position to dictate his release. The team would hold him and "Eat" the 12 MM salary unless they could put together a "Condional" trade. The condition being that he does not subsequently get traded to any team that the Packers oraganization designates.

It's real simple....show up and compete and face the music that you orchestrated or stay at home and cut the grass.

If you bother to go to the JournalSentinel site and click on this link, that would tell the story of the Flipp-Flopper Favre. Here is the link to the timeline: http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=771893. What would you do if you were in Managements shoes. After his last Flip-Flop, they moved on and drafted2 QB's to back-up Rodgers. I can't imagine anyone else doing anythin different, DO YOU??

Read this and realize that Favre is an absolute Fu$%i*( moron the way he played this scenario out.

I am a huge Favre fan, but whoever his advisors are, probably scored less than Favre did (16) on the Wonderlic test.

Come In And Compete. If you win the job, then let's go get'em. if not, How about a nice cup of SHUT THE FU%K UP?

I'd like to see Favre talk to Skip Bayless from ESPN. He may not be everybody's favorite sports commentator but Bayless was the first one I heard sarcastically predict this scenario, although I'm sure he wasn't the only one. As a Pats fan its kind of refreshing to have a topic other than "spygate" get beaten into the ground. All you Packers fans can enjoy your moment in the sun!

@Darnskippy - If you rescued said company from the bottom of the barrel, made it more money than at anytime in it's history, reached the highest goal the company could reach, and did it for 17 straight years while never calling in sick one goddamn time, then hell yeah you can come back. You can do it wearing diapers and a turban if you want. It's so sad how few fans show the dedication to him that he's shown to all of you for the last 2 decades. The man makes a stupid decision and changed his mind a couple months later. BFD! You guys want to crucify him for it. Everyone is so damn cynical and jaded now days.

Before Favre we'd won one playoff game since 1967. I don't want to go back to that.

Triumph - he's trying to hold the team hostage, but he actually isn't. The only ones being held hostage are the dim-witted few (aka Lambeau protesters) who believe Favre walks on water.

"I’m going to tell the company I work for that I’m leaving and then change my mind three months later. Do you think that my job will still be available?"

-If you're one of the best in the world at what you do and you instantly make the company better and more profitable, then yes.

-However, Favre asked for his release in a letter. He's not asking to go back to his old company.

Don't use shitty comparisons without at least attempting to think.

Superfan forgot to mention that Ted (the dead) Thompson has spent a lot of time getting rid of the best players on the Pack and if it weren't for the leadership of Brett and the skill of the coaches they wouldn't have set the franchise record for most wins last year.
Maybe you should change your handle to DarnStupid!

I don't understand all the complaining about the evolving Favre soap opera. It's gripping melodrama, with spine-tingling suspense, exaggerated emotions, over-the-top characters, and an ambiguous morality play.

As Terrell Owens would say, "Get your popcorn ready!"

Maybe Dr. Phil will make a cameo appearance as a mediator.

Most of you are missing the point. The Packers aren't saying Favre can't play football anymore. They're saying that if he wants to play for the Green Bay Packers he is going to back up Aaron Rodgers. Is it not their right to say this? Didn't Favre sign a contract with the Packers and do the Packers currently retain rights to him as a player? HE made the decision to retire! Had he chosen not to retire then we'd have nothing to talk about. HE set this chain of events in motion. Now he wants to play but not for the Packers. Sorry big guy but YOU signed a contract with a team (and the Packers have performed their end of the contract) and in exchange for the organization paying you an un-Godly sum of money, they retain your rights...even if those rights are to prevent you from playing from an interdivision rival. The Packers have every right to make Favre stand by his decision to retire. Favre's an ass!

Didn’t Favre sign a contract with the Packers and do the Packers currently retain rights to him as a player? HE made the decision to retire! Had he chosen not to retire then we’d have nothing to talk about. HE set this chain of events in motion. Now he wants to play but not for the Packers. Sorry big guy but YOU signed a contract with a team (and the Packers have performed their end of the contract) and in exchange for the organization paying you an un-Godly sum of money, they retain your rights…even if those rights are to prevent you from playing from an interdivision rival. The Packers have every right to make Favre stand by his decision to retire. Favre’s an ass!
