Packers quarterback Brett Favre will end his silence regarding the recent events surrounding his unretirement via an exclusive interview with . . . Greta Van Susteren?
Seriously.
Favre was interviewed on Monday by Van Susteren, who likely doesn’t know whether to put air in a football or give it a facelift, and who hosts an evening show on the Fox News.
In a crypic blurb on her show’s web site, Van Susteren says that Favre “accepts” the decision of G.M. Ted Thompson not to grant his release, but she also reiterates Favre’s desire to exit the Packers.
The interview will air Monday night on Fox News at 10:00 p.m. EDT. (Even Keith Olbermann will be watching.) In a photo on the Van Susteren site, Favre is seen talking to her in his normal appearance — unshaven, gray T-shirt, and camo shorts. Amazingly, however, he is wearing shoes. And socks.
Regardless of the potential impact of Favre’s words on his football career, the selection of FOX News and Van Susteren will raise eyebrows with folks like Chris Mortensen and Peter King and Jay Glazer and Al Jones of the Biloxi Sun-Herald and others who undoubtedly have tried to put themselves in position to get this “get.”

Florio, youre stupid. Greta Van Susteren isn’t a random reporter- shes a big packers fan. She interviewed Favre in the middle of last season too.

What a pitty it is for all of the Packer fans who are forced to come to the awful realization that Favre doesn’t want y’all as badly as you want him.

DarnSkippy,
Hmm, well, have you led your company to significantly better perfomrance over the last 15 years than they would otherwise have had? If so, then probably yes.

Brett Favre is a scumbag. I am in no way a Packers fan, but this is the same team that has treated him like gold since 1992 and he pays them back by holding this team hostage yet again. It’s quite obvious to any sane, reasonable person why this prick chose Van Sustern as the person to interview him. Because people that are NFL Insiders or people from his own hometown would actually ask him tough questions which he does not want to hear or deal with. Anytime an athlete retires, I’ve always taken it with a grain of salt. Now I have even more of a reason to do so

Most of you are missing the point. The Packers aren’t saying Favre can’t play football anymore. They’re saying that if he wants to play for the Green Bay Packers he is going to back up Aaron Rodgers. Is it not their right to say this? Didn’t Favre sign a contract with the Packers and do the Packers currently retain rights to him as a player? HE made the decision to retire! Had he chosen not to retire then we’d have nothing to talk about. HE set this chain of events in motion. Now he wants to play but not for the Packers. Sorry big guy but YOU signed a contract with a team (and the Packers have performed their end of the contract) and in exchange for the organization paying you an un-Godly sum of money, they retain your rights…even if those rights are to prevent you from playing from an interdivision rival. The Packers have every right to make Favre stand by his decision to retire. Favre’s an ass!

I don’t understand all the complaining about the evolving Favre soap opera. It’s gripping melodrama, with spine-tingling suspense, exaggerated emotions, over-the-top characters, and an ambiguous morality play.
As Terrell Owens would say, “Get your popcorn ready!”
Maybe Dr. Phil will make a cameo appearance as a mediator.

Hey Skippy….
Superfan forgot to mention that Ted (the dead) Thompson has spent a lot of time getting rid of the best players on the Pack and if it weren’t for the leadership of Brett and the skill of the coaches they wouldn’t have set the franchise record for most wins last year.
Maybe you should change your handle to DarnStupid!

“I’m going to tell the company I work for that I’m leaving and then change my mind three months later. Do you think that my job will still be available?”
-If you’re one of the best in the world at what you do and you instantly make the company better and more profitable, then yes.
-However, Favre asked for his release in a letter. He’s not asking to go back to his old company.
Don’t use shitty comparisons without at least attempting to think.

I love how hurt Peter managed to sound just by noting in a single sentence that his text to Favre went unreturned. Of course, this was taken as concrete proof that Favre “has gone underground”.

Triumph - he’s trying to hold the team hostage, but he actually isn’t. The only ones being held hostage are the dim-witted few (aka Lambeau protesters) who believe Favre walks on water.

@Darnskippy - If you rescued said company from the bottom of the barrel, made it more money than at anytime in it’s history, reached the highest goal the company could reach, and did it for 17 straight years while never calling in sick one goddamn time, then hell yeah you can come back. You can do it wearing diapers and a turban if you want. It’s so sad how few fans show the dedication to him that he’s shown to all of you for the last 2 decades. The man makes a stupid decision and changed his mind a couple months later. BFD! You guys want to crucify him for it. Everyone is so damn cynical and jaded now days.
Before Favre we’d won one playoff game since 1967. I don’t want to go back to that.

I’d like to see Favre talk to Skip Bayless from ESPN. He may not be everybody’s favorite sports commentator but Bayless was the first one I heard sarcastically predict this scenario, although I’m sure he wasn’t the only one. As a Pats fan its kind of refreshing to have a topic other than “spygate” get beaten into the ground. All you Packers fans can enjoy your moment in the sun!

I have stated this before. When the “It’s All Rumors” beginning of this BS fiasco started, I wanted the Packers to let him compete for the starting position. If the Packers are true to their words, then let the best man win. If that is the case, I would think that Favre would win the starting job. If this is just a BS ruse by the Pack to save some sort of face, then no matter what Favre does, he will be holding a clipboard at 12 MM per year.
Favre doesn’t seem to realize that the TEAM hold the cards in this situation. If you are going to “Unretire”, then report to camp and let the competition begin. he is not in a position to dictate his release. The team would hold him and “Eat” the 12 MM salary unless they could put together a “Condional” trade. The condition being that he does not subsequently get traded to any team that the Packers oraganization designates.
It’s real simple….show up and compete and face the music that you orchestrated or stay at home and cut the grass.
If you bother to go to the JournalSentinel site and click on this link, that would tell the story of the Flipp-Flopper Favre. Here is the link to the timeline: http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=771893. What would you do if you were in Managements shoes. After his last Flip-Flop, they moved on and drafted2 QB’s to back-up Rodgers. I can’t imagine anyone else doing anythin different, DO YOU??
Read this and realize that Favre is an absolute Fu$%i*( moron the way he played this scenario out.
I am a huge Favre fan, but whoever his advisors are, probably scored less than Favre did (16) on the Wonderlic test.
Come In And Compete. If you win the job, then let’s go get’em. if not, How about a nice cup of SHUT THE FU%K UP?
