Fresh from his NFL retirement, quarterback Trent Dilfer has landed a new gig in television.
ESPN has hired Dilfer as an NFL Studio Analyst. We’re advised that Dilfer, the former Bucs, Ravens, Seahawks, Browns, and 49ers quarterback, will have a significant role on Sundays and Mondays during the season, and that he’ll be involved in the Super Bowl and draft coverage.
He’ll make his first ESPN appearance on NFL Live on Monday at 4:00 p.m. EDT.
An industry source advises us that it’s a three-year contract between Dilfer and ESPN.
We’ve also confirmed that the Achilles tendon injury, which hastened Dilfer’s already inevitable exist from the game, occurred while playing basketball. Specifically, it happened at a dude ranch (not that there’s anything wrong with that) during a game of “Knockout” with Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, former NFL quarterbacks Danny Wuerffel and Steve Stenstrom, and former Seahawks kicker Todd Peterson.
Prior to suffering the injury in late June, Dilfer had received some overtures from the Raiders.
Dilfer essentially fills the void created by the departure from ESPN of Sean Salisbury, who left the network in order to “expand his horizons” but to date has fallen off the globe.

Yeah Sean, how’s the job market? You fat tard. ESPN is almost watchable again with that loser gone. Now if they could get rid of Mark Sleestack, the wunderbias.

I’m sure the people around ESPN are gonna miss seeing cell phone pictures of Sean’s package. Now the ESPN crew has an actually decent quarterback with a Super Bowl ring to provide analysis. Seems to be an upgrade over a journeyman quarterback who can resist showing his coworkers his junk.

Maybe Bristol will realize Kornheiser on MNF was a mistake and replace him in the booth with Dilfer.

Hopefully Trent won’t pick on little John Clayton.

Good for Dilfer. Quarterbacks generally provide above-average analysis between the lines, and Trent is in a unique position to succeed having been a part of so many different franchises.

why can’t I shake the vision that Dilfer’s broadcast career will be plagued by chronic laryngitis?

I’ll second that. Kornholio’s got to go and I think Dilfer’s a class act. Excellent suggestion!

good someone with some knowledge of foot ball!!! maybe the should put him in the MNF slot & get rid of that idiot Tony!!! Oh I guess that would be too easy!!! they got rid of Theismann the last good announcer ESPN had, but I guess the ding bat gals are gone that keep on ratteling on about nothing while play is going on, so I guess little baby steps are signs of improvement!!!

Theismann is now doing infomercials. Yippee! Salisbury was pretty good, imo. The cam phone thing was worse than Emmitt’s speaking skilz! lol
Trent is squeky clean and will probably work out better than expected.
