Former NFL player and current Philly sports reporter Vai Sikahema made short work of former baseball slugger Jose Canseco on Saturday, knocking Canseco out in the first round of a boxing match.
Despite being seven inches shorter than Canseco, Sikahema got the job done.
“When you step inside the square circle,” Sikahema told the Press of Atlantic City, “don’t ever think that your size is going to matter because in Philadelphia, we will chop you down.”
A crowd roughly estimated at 1,250 attending the fight roared as Sikahema knocked down Canseco twice in the only round, before the fight was stopped.
“The only thing that surprised me was that it didn’t end in the first 30 seconds,” Sikahema said.
In somewhat related news, former NFL player Art Donovan will be wrestling Ted Williams’ frozen head on August 15 in Baltimore.

Something tells me Artie could/would fight almost anyone in the NFL given the chance.
I’d still put $50 on Artie, even at 83 years old.

Wasn’t Sikahema basically a kick returner? That shows you the toughness of football players vs. baseball players when a kick returner can beat the crap out of a roided up slugger.
Deion Sanders looked like a baseball player in a football uniform; Bo Jackson looked like a football player in a baseball uniform.

Couple of Commentaries:
Artie vs. Ted’s Head? My money’s on the Head… (I know, but sometimes I like a long shot).
I can’t wait to see a replay of Vai chopping down that Big Blabber Mouth, Canseco…

Via is still in excellent shape. He had a ‘mock’ tryout for the Philadelphia Soul Arena team a few seasons ago and would have made the team, but he didn’t want to give up his sports anchor job.

Also can’t wait to see the highlight of this fight. But hey, I’d like to see just about anyone beating down Can-sucko.

I’ll have to take Ted’s head too. Have you seen the Futurama episode yet?

I won my fantasy league in 2003 with the team name Ted Williams head so my money is on the frozen head also. Donovan will be too distracted when he starts yapping about the good ol days and probably trip over the frozen head, rendering himself unconscious when he falls into the turnbuckle.
P.s. I can only picture Williams head in a jar like in FUTURAMA

I feel vindicated. When I was in junior high school, I played Pop Warner football. The kid down the street played little league baseball. One day I told him that boys who play choose baseball over football do so because they whimps and that baseball was a girly man sport. His dad showed up a short time later and complained to my mother, who made me apologize. But it turns out I was quite right. Thanks, Vai.

Smart money’s on the head, but look for Art to take it the distance.
