Reports of Travis Henry testing positive for marijuana in the wake of last year’s extended maneuverings that successfully avoided the consequences of a prior alleged violation of the substance abuse policy and of Broncos coach Mike Shanahan’s expression of support for receiver Brandon Marshall have reminded us of something Taco Bill raised with us recently in connection with the Denver lawyer who has made a living of late representing Broncos players and Shanahan himself.

Harvey Steinberg was the legal mastermind behind Henry’s attack on the one-year suspension he averted in 2007.  Steinberg also represented Shanahan when Shanahan pressured Yahoo! Sports into retracting a portion of a Jason Cole article claiming that Shanahan videotaped Chargers practice, and Steinberg represents Marshall in his various entanglements.

Steinberg also represented former Broncos punter Todd Sauerbrun in a criminal matter that resulted in a guilty plea.

But the strangest aspect of this situation is that Steinberg also represents, according to CompleteColorado.com, Brian Hicks.  Per CompleteColorado.com, Hicks is a “known gang member” and an SUV registered in his name “is believed to have been the vehicle used in the drive-by murder of Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams.”

Sheesh.  Is Steinberg the only lawyer in Denver?  Apart from that, it’s just odd that so many members of the organization would use a guy who, according to CompleteColorado.com, represents a man who has a connection to one of the darkest and most disturbing incidents in franchise history.
