If the Green Bay Packers were to trade Brett Favre, they’d probably want to trade him to an AFC team not on their 2008 schedule.
The Jets fit that bill, but the early indications are that they wouldn’t pursue Favre if he became available.
“It’s a long shot right now that the Jets have any interest. I wouldn’t spend any time on that,” the New York Daily News quotes a source saying. “I can’t rule out 100% they won’t have interest, but I would say it’s 90%-95%. I would be very surprised if he wound up with the Jets.”
The main reasons are that the Jets wouldn’t want to trade a draft pick to the Packers, and they wouldn’t want to squeeze his eight-figure salary under their cap.
“Of course, if the Packers cut Favre and he’s willing to play for the minimum, things could change,” the Daily News source adds. “But that’s not going to happen.”
So it appears that if Favre is coming back, the Jets aren’t a likely landing place.

“I can’t rule out 100% they won’t have interest…”
I’m not 100% sure that the source doesn’t understand not using the opposite of the inverse of multiple negatives…

I see a few possibilities here. I like the Chiefs and Bills to make a push. A move like getting Favre for the Bills would grab them a playoff spot and get the fan support they need from people outside of western New York to help keep them there. And Giving Trent Edwards a year under Favre would be beneficial for him to learn a little bit more before he takes over.
The Chiefs need a quarterback bad and Favre in Arrowhead would be a guaranteed 6-8 wins, and he could string together a few road wins and they are in the playoffs.

I wonder if the 49ers would be a good fit? Personally I would like to see him backing up Romo in Dallas, but I know the odds of that happening are slim to none.

Well obviously they want to talk down the value of Favre in a trade. Swap him straight up for Pennington. Then Rodgers has a veteran backup.
I say what the hell. Trade him to Minnesota for a Herschel Walker type deal. They think they’re superbowl bound, so they might just be stupid enough to do it. Then when Rodgers and the Pack crush Minnesota in the opener, it will silence TT’s critics.

Whoever Favre plays for, I believe this about him and the Packers, now:
BRETT FAVRE HAS EARNED THE RIGHT TO PLAY MORE IF HE WANTS TO. HE IS AMONG THE TOP QB’S TO EVER PLAY. MORE YARDS AND TD’S THAN DAN MARINO, IF I RECALL. TWO SUPER BOWL APPEARANCES AND ONE RING. HE IS A SUPER BOWL CHAMPION. TO WIN IT, HE BEAT TWO OF THE BEST TEAMS EVER ASSEMBLED IN THE SF 49ERS AND THE DALLAS COWBOYS OF THE 90′S, REMEMBER? NOT TO MENTION THE GIANTS OF THAT ERA. HE IS ONE OF THE MOST PROLIFIC, AND ONE OF THE MOST ENTERTAINING EVER.
HE HAS DONE A LOT FOR GREEN BAY, THE REGION, NFL FANS, THE LEAGUE AND THE PACKERS ORGANIZATION OVER MANY YEARS. HE DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE HELD HOSTAGE FOR HIS SHORT TERM TRADE VALUE NOW. WHAT’S HIS VALUE BEEN ALREADY THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER? THE PACKERS WILL BE DOING THE CORRECT THING IF THEY TRADE HIM FOR SOMETHING NOMINAL OR RELEASE HIM.
FREE FAVRE!!!!! LET THE MAN PLAY. IF THE PACKERS HAVE TRULY MOVED ON, THEN LET BRETT FAVRE MOVE ON, TOO… ANY WAY HE CHOOSES. HE HAS EARNED IT.

Training camps can’t open soon enough to rid football talk of all this bull. It seems we have 5 months of actual football discussion and then 7 months of Chad Johnson, Pacman Jones and now Favre. Enough already, lace ‘em up and hit the field.

Wow … it’s 90-95% that the Jets would NOT pursue a player that’s retired and not even free to go to them should they desire. What kind of “story” is this? Are we going to get commentary from 30 other teams on how interested they MAY be IF Favre unretired, and IF and IF he were released or offered for trade.
Here’s another story. If things don’t work out for Brad and Angelina, I’m 90% certain I won’t pursue her.

Regardless if it is grammatically correct, it is technically the exact opposite of what he was trying to say. So, it was not “fine”.

THink the Pack will pay him 12 mill to hold a clipboard? No way. I guarantee that right now they are telling him that they are going to keep him through training camp have him practice and then make him the last cut so that he can’t be effective with someone else. That would be hardball. Will they follow through - probably not. But if Favre changes his mind and doesn’t come back - this is what they told him.

I’ve been in a coma since January. Have I missed any news on Brett Favre? If so, can anybody recommend to me a website I can go to where I can get everything I’ve missed, including heresay, speculation and quotes from unnamed sources who are 90% to 95% certain?
Thanks!

@Fade….the shift key is your friend. Learn it, live it, love it. As to Favre, hope they do get a Herschel Walker or even a Javon Walker trade done. Time to move on.

D-U-M-B Dumb! Dumb! Dumb!
Do the Jets really think they’re going to sneak into the playoffs with Kellen Clemens and Chad Pennington behind center? Why spend all that dough in the offseason only have two below average QBs battle for the starting spot.
Fade 2 Black,
Favre NEVER beat the Cowboys in the postseason and never won a game in Texas Stadium…Also, the Giants of the mid to the late 1990s (when Favre was at his peak) were mediocre at best. The Giants and Packers really never had a rivarly since the 60s…

I hear a lot of people blaming the Packers for what Favre is doing. Hello; he just messed up a program the organization was starting to put together, because Favre said he was retired and its reported the Packers went out of their way to have him come back and he said he was not going to return but he was retiring, so the Packers make plans in the draft by drafting two q/b’s, preparing Rogers for the job and Favre tells the Packers “forget what I said”, I want to play football so just cut me so I can sign with another team. Does Favre plan on giving any signing bonus money back to the packers? Is Favre responsible for anything, or is it all the Packers fault for what he is doing to the Packer organization. I bet if it was your team you wouldn’t be happy with Favre. No matter how you look at it Favre gave the Packers the meat, and then he said, cut me. Nice job Favre.

After the recent playoff debacles, Buffalo is way too cold. NY too.
KC probly too cold too. Carolina might be, and maybe it is just me, but i wouldnt sit Delhomme to play Favre.
Baltimore isnt warm either.
Tampa sounds about warm enough.
