Former Giants quarterback Phil Simms recently said that he hopes that quarterback Brett Favre doesn’t unretire.
And, like Favre himself, Simms has now changed his mind.
Appearing this morning on The Dan Patrick Show, Simms said that he thinks Favre should come back.
As legend has it, it was Simms’ comments to Sirius NFL Radio in 2006 that prompted Favre to decide to continue to play: “Play as long as you can. When you think it’s over, play another or two years . . . because life after football, it’s forever.”
Actually, the talk about Favre playing or not playing is what’s truly “forever.”

Phill Simms is a douche bag. This guy is painful to watch. He’s such a stiff on camera. And the way he got all personal when Steve Young talked about his son. I’m surprised anyone lets him speak anymore.

Didn’t Simms say that Favre should play for one or two years, two years ago? That’s totally consistent with Favre retiring and Simms saying he should not un-retire. Looks like a non-story to me. Nothig to see here…move along.

I find it pretty funny that PFT in their Favre stories are starting to leave little snippets like this when PFT is hugely responsible for the media frenzy in the first place with its unsubstantiated Favre wants to be a Panther story.
I think it is PFT’s attempt to cater to the few jealous anti-Favre posters here who always get their unless in a bundle when more attention is paid to a player that is not on their favorite team.

….. and ‘forever’ is a long time to be hobbled by injuries garnered by playing well past your prime.

Farve (I know I reversed the “r” and the “v” but dammit that’s how it should be spelled) enjoys the speculation that goes on a nearly dominates the sports media for the 1/2 year each year more than he enjoys playing…he would have to to keep up this crap for the last three years. Though it will never happen, I betcha that it would come to a screeching hault if all of us (including me) stopped paying attention to it.
