Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that free-agent offensive lineman Shane Olivea’s four-game suspension has been rescinded, and he has agreed to terms with the Giants.
Olivea isn’t signed yet — he still needs to work out for the team and pass a physical — but if that goes according to plan, Olivea will be there for the start of training camp and eligible to play for the Giants in Week 1.
It was reported last month that Olivea had received a four-game suspension, but it was unclear at the time what the suspension was for. Whatever it was, it no longer applies.
Early in his career, Olivea looked like one of the most promising young offensive linemen in the league, starting every game but one for the Chargers from 2004 to 2006. But in 2007 Olivea lost his starting job, and after the suspension was reported last month, there were reports that he had partied himself out of the league. Now Olivea has a second chance, with the defending champs.

Perfect example of the New York teams getting different sets of rules than other teams. The league totally favors these teams.

Only the Giants, cowboys and Jets get priveleges as these. You don’t think Mara was twisting the commish’s arm to get this guy back? This is why the player conduct policy doesn’t work.

Something odd about this. Why was Oliveas suspension lifted. CAuse the new york (in the pocket of the commish) wanted him. Something is really shifty about this.

I wonder if anyone other than the Gents knew this was being rescinded.

Hopefully he takes advantage of his second chance. But like the rest of you, I’m curious as to why the suspension was lifted.

I’d love to know what the suspension was for and why it was recinded but far be it from me to look a gift horse in the mouth. Let’s hope that Olevia pulls a Plaxico and turns his career around, one thing is for sure depth at O-line is always good. Unless your depth is Winston Justice.

YO COUTRE I believe you meant the NJ teams have control of goodell’s strings not NY teams. Buffalo usually gets shafted or ostricised by other owners (the last CBA which Ralph Wilson foresaw blowing the **** up in the owners faces b4 hand) & commisioners & fans of other teams & ESPN (big time) & i-net sports writers & that ****** marshall faulk for some reason blasts them every chance he gets, that poor guys got issues b/c he hates em more than most pats/jets/fins fans etc…etc… the New York Team does not get preferential treatment pal, and you can take that fact to the bank.

Olivea didn’t party himself out of the League. He was hurt, and was using painkillers. Norv Turner, who is a major jerk, found someone who could fill the spot for $300,000, when they were paying Olivea 3 million and they had him under contract for another 10 million… Olivea is a good guy and a good football player.. The Chargewrs suck, they always have… This is a good deal for the Giants and a good deal for Shane,,,,and an evan better deal for Eli…

This is very strange: Shane Olivea is suspended for secret reasons then reinstated with no explanation given? Quite odd…

there are some dumb people posting comments…his suspension was for missing a drug test but being that he missed the test because he was in drug rehab was kind of well dumb!!!!! move on the nfl’s part so they realized it and took it back….he might turn out to be a huge steal for the giants…..they would not have taken him unless they are convinced he can turn things around…

Maybe by suspended, they meant unemployed? All joking aside, he must have failed/missed drug test. That’s my guess. No idea why it would be rescinded though. He obviously must have appealed it.

I’m with SnappySammy on this one. Olivea has been a tremendous player since his championship days with Ohio State, Norv Turner has done nothing but lose in the NFL. Turner had it out for Olivea for whatever reason. Olivea, a Long Island product, will be a great pick up for the Giants and could be an All-Pro someday. He who laughs last, laughs best. It will be Norv Turner wiping the egg off his face once again here.

My bad on the NY teams getting preferential treatment. The NJ teams are the darlings of the league. If only they would change their name to the NJ Giants.

“…Norv Turner has done nothing but lose in the NFL.”
Yep, he lost in the 2007 AFC Championship Game with most of his ofensive weapons broken.
You’re a genius!!

Toad it is ye has yet to kiss the prince of intelligence. Offensive is spelled with two fs. Norv Turner inherited a team built to go to the Super Bowl, they got off to a slow start and Olivea became his one of his scapegoats. He has never been a winning coach, look it up. He is one of those NFL “good ole boys.” Granted they played tough in the AFC championship game, his winning percentage is .442 as a coach. His teams have never won a big game. Olivea was on the NCAA champ Ohio State squad, he will be a fantastic pickup for the Giants.
