Our friends at Packergeeks pointed out to us that the official Brett Favre web site is currently featuring an article that puts some heat on Packers General Manager Ted Thompson for Thompson’s stance on Favre’s possible comeback.
The Favre site re-posts a story by Mike Vandermause of the Green Bay Press-Gazette under the headline, “Thompson takes heat for Favre retirement.” The story features one quote after another from people close to Favre, all criticizing Thompson.
Among the quotes are Favre’s mother, Bonita Favre, saying, “He has felt like that for the last couple of years, that the Packers didn’t really want him back,” and Biloxi Sun Herald reporter Al Jones, a friend of Favre’s, saying, “It all comes down to Ted Thompson. The main thing is the man has shown no respect to perhaps the greatest quarterback in their franchise history. Brett’s a little disappointed. He feels like he can still play. He knows he can still play.”
We don’t know if Favre actually has anything to do with the official Brett Favre web site, but the site comes across as though it’s intended to give fans a piece of Favre’s mind. So posting that Vandermause story, with all those quotes critical of Thompson, speaks volumes.

favre has become a serious pain in the ass with his retirement /non retirement. other than packer fans and favre himself, who apparently he is in love with himslef, who cares anymore? he sucked in his final game, if i was a packer fan i would say “GET OFF THE STAGE AND STAY OFF”, enough is enough this site is quickly becoming the “brett favre soap opera update” page. what a freak. brett shut up and retire

I love the closing line:
“While we wait to see how this saga plays out, it’s clear those closest to Favre are making Thompson out to be the fall guy. Whether Favre shares those sentiments remains to be seen.”
Way to stay objective after about a 15-paragraph Thompson ripping haha.

the whole article needs to be read. the 2nd half of it shows thompson’s side and questions why a the qb needs to be coddled by thompson.
“Since when does a superstar quarterback need to be coddled? If Brett wanted to play but perceived he wasn’t wanted, he should have drawn on his competitive nature to prove Thompson and the organization wrong.
It should be noted Favre went out of his way at his retirement press conference on March 6 to thank Thompson and absolve the Packers organization of playing a role in his departure.”
“Jones admitted in his recent WTMJ interview that McCarthy tried to talk Favre into playing in March. So, if Favre had the full support of his coach, how can anyone make a credible claim that the organization forced the quarterback into retirement?”

I have some friends who are Pack fans and they can’t seem to figure it out either. On one hand they want Lord Brett to make up his mind and freely admit he makes some of the most bone-headed decisions ever as a QB but then the next play makes a throw or a scramble that just doesn’t seem possible and all is right in the universe.
On the other hand they can’t convince themselves that Aaron Rodgers is going to cover himself in glory. They already seem to think Brohm will be the man someday.

What the crap was all the Boo Hooing about when he anounced his retirement? I’ll give the guy credit for what he has done, but come on. This guy is Hill Billie Tiki. Trying to keep himself in the spotlight. The Pack who were one interception away from giong to the super bowl need to tell him to get bent.

Does anyone have a dollar amount on the 7 year deal Farve signed with the NFL to carry their news cycle through the doldrums of June/July?
The NFL is quickly becoming the WWE with their storylines. It was better when the league dropped off the radar for a few months in the summer. Made training camp that much sweeter. Now its just a bore and in case NFL spokesmen Aiello is reading, college football rules your face!!

Brett Favre is bigger than the Green Bay Packers
This simple truth is impossible for the cheddar heads to admit, but it is what drives this Favre frenzy every time Brett takes a sideways look at someone.
Packer fans are split down the middle on this issue, and Rodgers gets to look on from the sidelines, probably with a clip board in his hand.
Favre wants to play, Thompson doesn’t want him, so Thompson should let him go so the bigger than Green Bay Packers Brett Favre can continue his career where he feels wanted.

Why are you all complaining? I’m loving watching the car crash this situation has become. Then again, I’m one of the people who has been nauseated by the hyperbolic fawning over Favre by the John Maddens and Tony Kornheisers of the world. We’re talking about an overrated, INT-prone QB. There is a reason he only has 1 ring. He’s always been reckless with the ball, and that will get you beat.
This episode highlights what a me-first prima donna he is, even thought the perception is that he’s “what the game is all about”. I hate to even play this card, but it’s a legit question. Would he be seen as such a great guy if he was black?

Favre is like the girl who’s the captain of the cheerleaders and Class President, and knows that when she gets out of high school and college, she’ll be just another former somebody. At least his mother hasn’t killed Aaron Rodgers, like that cheerleader mom from Texas.

i think this is 70% the medias fault 30% Bretts fault. every season at week 13 they start this whole thing is he going to retire or not. and they play with his head a lot. This reminds me of the movie Any Given Sunday when you have the older champion QB who wants out but everyone adn everything keeps pushing him back in the game. Just leave it be

I’ve got it figured out! Favre is a selfish bunghole, who only wants what is best for him. He does this crap to stay in the news. Maybe he is back on the pain killers. Also, Brett, be a man and talk for yourself instead of hiding in your room and letting your mommy, agent and even Jay Cutler speak for you. What a dick.

Perhaps Ted Thompson simply didn’t want to kiss Favre’s ass. Last I checked, players were employees of the team and worked more or less for the administration. Ted Thompson, believe it or not, doesn’t work for the Packers’ fans or players.

Seems like Favre is already tarnishing his legacy by being passive aggressive towards TT and the Packers in general. He wanted out of Green Bay, but wanted it to be Green Bay’s fault, not his.

What’s funny is that you guys act like Favre’s sitting at home pulling the strings on all this. You’re pissed off at Favre when you should be pissed off at the media. He’s got a right to change his mind, it happens. The rest of it is all just media hoopla cause it’s July and there’s not much else to report on. No one of import has said anything new in the last 5 days, but the story is still all over the place.
