As we continue to speculate about whether or not Brett Favre is really retired, an interesting report from Darren Rovell of CNBC provides another example of how Favre is leaving the door open to a return.

According to Rovell, there will be no officially licensed products that use the word “retirement” in relation to Favre. The reason? The NFL Players Association told merchandisers that Favre had requested it. So retirement tributes on plaques or T-shirts or collectors’ cards or anything else are forbidden.

You can buy a six-coin collection with box and certificate that sure feels like an end-of-career tribute, but it doesn’t say “retirement” on it.

Like most of the news we’ve heard related to Favre recently, that doesn’t mean he’s going to play in the NFL again. But it does hint that he’s at least open to it.
