Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer are definately on top of the list of worst (excuse me, "game managing") QBs to win the SuperBowl. In fairness, Hoss was actually a pretty good player and Pro Bowler with the Raiders. He was a backup with the Giants b/c they had Simms and there was only "Plan B" free agency back then.

Joe Theismann also won a SB. He some pretty good seasons too, so he's not the Dilfer-Johnson class.

Worst Super Bowl winning QB ever? Not trying to bash Dilfer, but it's a legitimate question. Who else would be in that conversation? Jeff Hostetler?

the bucs had been in the nfl since 1976. so when dilfer got there, tamps wasnt an "emerging expansion franchise". they were just not a good team at that point.

I'd have to say far more successful than any of the other QB's in that class. Anyway, like I said before. Pro-Bowler, Super Bowl Champion, 17 years pro. How many guys can say that?

I think Dilfer could be more suited to coaching, he's been described as a good mentor by other players, and would be a good guy to run a team I feel.

Dilfer's little stint with NFL Network as an analyst was quite impressive - I think he has a promising career in TV.

at least he wont have to take a big paycut to become a Network talkie on Sundays.
or even Football nite in America.
rumor has it they are trying to field an entire 11 man unit (he would make 8 of em)

BREAKING NEWS: Dilfer has been hired to participate in NBC's "Football Night in America" pre-game show.

Not really, but he does have a future in television. Maybe CBS can finally let go of Sharpe and/or Marino. (Sorry, Dan. Laces out.)

I am a lifelong Fresno St. Bulldogs fan, and grew up watching this guy throw the ball around. His teams were what took us from being a tiny little local team in the Big Sky division to a mid-major in the WAC.
Those were some great offensive teams, with the likes of Dilfer, Daivd Dunn, Jahene Arnold, Lorenzo Neal, Charlie Jones, Reggie "darth vader" Brown, (and a few I'm surely missing) all coming out and spending significant time in the NFL all coming out of our little squad at the same time, it was a great time to grow up in the San Joaquin Valley (living here sucks now though)
I think he was an underrated QB, too. He was the brunt of alot of jokes but I recall this guy winning something like 17 consecutive starts for two teams at one point. He never was the big time guy worth a #6 pick, but he didn't make alot of mistakes.

He'll be missed.

Dilfer was never a game changing quaterback but he did know how to manage the game. By all reports he was also a leader on the sidelines, great mentor, and a team player. It is sad to see him go like this but he had a great career.

He tried, but just like Testiverti he had the privilage of playing for an inept Buccaneers franchise coming into the league. For any QB to survive that and continue playing for a number of years after that deserves some credit.

No , he was never a bust.If Joe Montana played for the Bucs in 1994 he wouldnt have done any better.Same with Testeverde. Like they say , its a team effort.I wish Trent the best of luck in the future. He deserves it,

Cory,

Rightly or wrongly, I think most people expect more than that out of the 6th overall pick of the draft.

Didn't Dilfer retire? Plus the 49ers have O'Sullivan, Hill, Smith, and now Kyle Wright, an undrafted free agent cut recently by the Vikings. And, yes, that's three former Vikings QBs on their roster.
