It was the Ravens, and the Super Bowl game was played in Tampa...that's what I didn't clearly say.

empty13...yeah, the y2k ravens defense was (must. not. say. it.) killer.

He did QB a SB winner. All them much-ballyhooed replacements for him in balto didnt do that.

You can have the greatest D in the world. if there isnt a steady hand at qb, well...

And in comparison, the tampa D was a bunch of pikers compared to the y2k ballamore D. Brutal.

Trent Dilfer = Vinny Testaverde Light

Loved the guy's personality, but never lived up to expectations. Was still able to hang around the league for years bouncing from one team to another as a serviceable stopgap type player.

What, no ceremonious 1-day contract with the Vikings? That seems to be the recent trend.

As a Browns fan, Dilfer lost a little of shine when he grumbled about taking a back seat to Charlie Frye and basically forced his way out of Cleveland. He was brought in purely as a short-term starter but more so as a transition QB/veteran mentor. Not that Dilfer or Frye panned out anyways for the Browns (plus we fans are bitter about many things), but the fact that he originally embraced and later rejected his intended role hacked off many Cleveland fans.

Dilfer was a rookie holdout and never recovered from that in Tampa. His skills were good but decision making was marginal. I don't think that ever changed in his career. The great thing about him, though, was his work ethic. Warrick Dunn even mentioned that recently. It was also very cool that his Super Bowl victory was in Tampa.

They guy was tough as nails, had a whole lot of stuff happen to him on and off the field and the way he handled is admirable. In fact my son is named after him. A broadcast booth would be a great place for him to land as he did well on the NFLN

Good luck with your next stage in life Dilfer - you really should be headed for the broadcast booth where your personality, sincerity annd insight would be a great asset unlike the other freakshows like Emmitt and Keyshawn.

You had a great career but unfortunately, you'll be remembered in a way less fitting than your classy character deserves - you will unfortunately forever be associated with mediocre QBs who are given their own category when arguments are being made to compare against the greats as a way to belittle the subject of comparison.

You won a Superbowl however, and you achieved the highest goal in professional football and you deservedly should leave the game with your head held high. Many QBs can only ever dream of being Dilfer-ish.
