No stone shall be left unturned in the effort to report every angle of the Brett Favre story, so now we’ve got Aaron Rodgers’s thoughts on the matter.
Rodgers is playing in a celebrity golf tournament this weekend and the Green Bay Press-Gazette caught up with him for a few thoughts on the prospect of Favre’s return. The answers were a bit more restrained than his suggestion to Sports Illustrated that fans keep their mouths shut if they didn’t support him.
“As the organization has commented, I’m going to keep it pretty much the same. I’m not really going to speculate about any rumors that are out there. . . . The media has a job to do, so they’re reporting the information they get. But other than, I’m not really going to speculate on any rumors that are out there at the moment.”
Fascinating stuff. It doesn’t take a master’s degree in reading between the lines to understand how little Rodgers wants to see Favre back with the Packers. As much as the team might want to turn the steering wheel over to Rodgers in theory, the actuality of Favre playing for another team is going to be hard for many in Green Bay to stomach. Rodgers’s comments to SI may have indicated he didn’t understand how much the fan base cares for the team but even he can see what Favre’s return to town would mean for his future.

How is Green Bay’s situation any different than San Francisco’s when they let Joe Montana leave for Kansas City with Steve Young waiting in the wings? The 49ers got through it, I expect that the Packers will, too.

Who cares. If Farve comes back, he won’t have a good year, and if he doesn’t Rodgers is essentially a rookie. The Packers will not be contending, unless of course the rest of the division is incredibly awful.

“Of course I would love to see Brett return to the Packers. I am more than happy to continue holding a clipboard for the rest of my NFL career while listening year after year to some middle-aged man talk about possibly retiring, then talk about possibly not retiring, then actually retiring, and then talk about unretiring again.
Brett has taught me a lot about life.
No, wait, he hasn’t.
I’m sorry, yes he has.”

Isn’t Bart Starr worried that his possible un-retirement might be up-ended by a possible Brett Favre un-retirement?

Ted Thompson has done nothing but good things for this team. Has he had a few stupid picks … sure? But what GM hasn’t. Should he have traded for Moss? Maybe - but who knows - Favre is not Brady. Should he have trade Javon Walker for a second rounder? Looks like a pretty good move to me.
I am a life long packer fan - and in Ted I Trust.
The person to blame for this all is Favre. He is the one who chose to retire 2 months again, and have a press conference to announce it. Was his hand forced - maybe? But this is a business. Do you think if you were offered a job, the company would just say take as long as you would like to decide if you want it or not - no - they set a deadline, which i think is simply what Ted Thompson did.
Bravo to Teddy T. - doing things that I don’t think many GM’s would have the marbles to do.

PFT should set up a “Days Without a Favre Posting” similar to the Turd Watch….but then what’s the point…it would always be on zero anyways.

Perfect
Rodgers should have that chair from the draft re-attached to his hind side so he can wait for Favre to REALLY retire.

Can we spend more time talking to rookie development and things that matter in the offseason? The media’s job should be to report the news, not create the news.

I don’t really think Rodgers was talking directly to the real fans when he made the “shut up” comment. I think he was talking more to the Green Bay Favre fans than the Green Bay Packers fans.
I think anyone serious fan of the Packers wishes for good success from Rodgers, but I think some of those Green Bay Favre fans want to see him fail so there might be a rush to bring Brett back.

Brett Favre YOU NEED TO JUST GO AWAY AND CUT YOUR GRASS! Favre is just being the egotistical little bitch he always has been. Packers*********** do yourself a favor and cut him loose,at 38 he won’t be around long. He will be the likes of Montana and the Warren Moons of the world.

Why in the world would Rodgers want Farve back? There is no reading between the lines, it’s common sense. It’s Rodgers turn, what else do you expect for him to say. This is a non story.

DarthPirate- You are just yet another idiot on this board who spouts off nonsense. How could you possibly/reasonably say that if Favre came back that he would have a bad season after one of his best statistical seasons last year? He had the youngest team in the NFL that went within a quarter of going to the Super Bowl and added a talented TE and another very talented receiver in the draft. He also gets back a TE they were very high on from injury in Humphrey.
Rodgers is also not essentially a rookie. He has 3 years in the system, knows it inside and out and played very composed and well when he played in the Dallas game. With a great defense around him and all the pieces from last year, he would be walking into a perfect situation. Look at Ben Rothlisberger his first year. He handed it off and passed when they had to when he was a rookie and they won the Super Bowl. Rodgers has already proven that he can handle the offense in a prime time game and has 3 years of pre-season games to also show that his development is not a mirage.

Teddy T has the marbles to do what most GMs wouldn’t?
Are you talking about hiding from his phone so he doesn’t actually have to talk to Brett Favre and just hope the situation goes away?
Being “on vacation” and not returning calls and texts to Favre isn’t being a managing executive. It’s being a scared GM whose afraid to make a real decision which could offend one side or the other (Favre or Rogers).
Man up to Favre if you don’t want him and let him tarnish his career somewhere else or man up to Rogers if you will let Favre return as the starter. But don’t act like a little kid and hope this just goes away and everything will be back to normal.
