With reports of Brett Favre planning to send a letter within the next week or so seeking to be placed on the Packers’ active roster, there has been much discussion and speculation about whether Favre wants to play for the team he has quarterbacked since 1992, and vice-versa.
One factor that has been omitted is whether Favre’s teammates would welcome him back.
Based on information we’ve picked up via our network of sources, the answer is a resounding “hell yes.”
Players already are referring privately to the notion of getting “our quarterback” back. There’s also a feeling within the locker room that the Packers can’t trade or release Favre without subjecting G.M. Ted Thompson to genuine concerns that he would be the target of some type of physical retaliation from one or more fans.
We’re also told that the players have yet to warm up to Aaron Rodgers, the man who is slated to become the next starting quarterback in Green Bay, if Favre stays retired or if he goes elsewhere.
Rodgers has been generally indifferent regarding his relationships with teammates. Also, there’s a belief among some of the players that Rodgers’ “get on board or shut up” remarks from last week to Sports Illustrated, which comments were obscured by the news of Favre’s possible return, reflect that Rodgers doesn’t understand the unique relationship between Packers players and the citizens of Green Bay.
So if Favre returns to the Packers, what will happen with Rodgers? He is signed through 2009 at manageable salaries of $680,000 and $800,000 over the next two seasons, respectively, under a contract that includes escalators based on playing time.
Our guess is that he’ll demand a trade. Possible suitors (as we see it) would include the Buccaneers, the Seahawks, the 49ers (who considered taking him instead of Alex Smith with the No. 1 overall pick in 2005), and any of the three NFC North rivals whose depth charts at the position would be upgraded instantly with the arrival of Rodgers.

Let’s see do you want a sure-fire hall of famer coming off one of his best years quarterbacking your team or an unproven 24-year old who once played a solid half off pro ball?
Please, stop all the fuss, welcome him back with open arms. That team can win now. Make the numbers work. Get your number guy on it.
Tell Aaron Rodgers he’s the one who needs to “get on board or shut up”.
This is a no-brainer. Put your pride aside Ted Thompson and give your team and city its best shot at winning this year.

I reject the comment about the NFC North teams. As a Lions fan, I’d give Stanton and/or Orlovsky a shot as starter before I’d give Rodgers a shot. For once, even the Lions’ number 3 QB is better than the starters of any of the other teams in the conference (assuming Favre stays retired). It’s too bad for us though that Kitna likely isn’t much better than our #2 or #3.

This has “messy” written all over it. Brett Favre is going to destroy this team. If/when Favre comes back you’ll be able to cut the tension in the GB locker room with a knife.
Im not a big Aaron Rodgers fan, but the guy lit it up in college and seemed waaaay better than Alex Smith. First he get passed over for Smith, then plummets on draft day. Then he gets stuck in GB for 3 years dealing with the annual “will-he-or-won’t-he-retire” Favrefest. Now, when he finally gets his chance, Brett wants to come back and pull the rug right out from under his feet. I think that if Brett comes back with the Packers, there is absolutely zero chance Rodgers re-signs with them once his rookie deal is done. Then whoever signs him will get a decent young QB with a huge chip on his shoulder.

ugh-nuf said. your crazy. the LIONS backups better than rodgers or even grossman? anyway- my opinion on rodgers has done a 180 in the last week or so. he seems to be finally folding under the pressure of following a legend. it could be REALLY REALLY bad for the team if rodgers puts a rift between the fans and the front office or if he causes bad blood to start flowing between teamates.

So one option that nobody is looking at is taking favre back and
trading rodgers to any team. The team could trade rodgers to a team
that has some QB problems which would give him a very good oppertunity
to start. This would favre to play and the possibilty for the 2 draft
picks from this year Brahm and Flynn to learn a little bit. To be
honest I would not mind if they traded rodger because he has had some
minor injurys and has not really proven much more then the 2 rookies
behind him. The only thing that he has going for him is that he played
good against the cowboys, but was hurt the next week; and has also
watched favre do what favre does for the last 4 years or so.

Favre is destroying the team on purpose, because of his personal vendetta against Ted Thompson. That’s not how a leader acts. The Packers don’t need him, and as a fan I don’t want him. Go to hell, Favre.

I don’t think there’s any way that GB trades Rodgers to anyone in the NFC. KC? NY Jets? Maybe Harbaugh would want a West Coast offense guy in Baltimore.

I admit that his “get on board or shut up comments” were pretty stupid. But then again for the most part you can’t blame him. He slid far on draft day for no reason. Then he comes to Green Bay and has to sit behind Favre for 3 years. Now that its finally his turn to take over he has all of this going on. I think he has handled it better than most other QB’s would. It cannot be easy to try to fulfill the shoes of an NFL legend. To wonder when and if you are finally going to get your chance has to be difficult. Besides that comment though I think hes done a classy job handling the situation.
That being said he will never be the QB Favre is, even Favre on the downside of his career. If Favre wants to play you have to let him as maddening as the back and forth decision is

Rodgers hasn’t earned anything. Ryan Leaf had a successful college career, that doesn’t mean anything. Not trying to compare the two, but you can’t say that AR is ready to lead a team to the SB just because he was a winner in college. The fact is that Brett still gives the Pack the best chance to win.
If I was in the bind Ted Thompson is in, I would do this. Get Brett to commit to two more years, no speculation about 09, give the team a two year window to win the SB. Trade Aaron Rodgers for a draft pick or two, and concentrate on grooming Brian Brohn and that QB from LSU. In two years one of those two will emerge. Any way, in three years we may skip a season due to the labor agreement, so the window is now.

As much as I’d like to see anyone play QB for the Bears besides the current alternatives, and half the fans, I don’t think the Packers would send their back-up QB to a rival they play twice a year. He’s had a few years to learn the playbook, and would probably have a lot to discuss with the defensive coordinator.

Wow…this is shaping up to be a first-class mess!
The way this is currently playing out, Green Bay should have no more trouble replacing Farve than Miami did replacing Marino or San Fran did replacing Young…too bad for the team!
If only Farve had faded away before he got hot again…if only!

I followed Favre his entire career, and I love the guy and the way he layED the game. You may think this crazy but the Packers have a better chance of getting to the Super Bowl with Rodgers than they do with Favre. While Favre has made incredible plays in the past and holds basically all the passing records, lets not forget that he also made some horrible mistakes at the most inopportune time. I really feel like you guys have a better chance with Rodgers than with Favre. He’s not a rookie. He’s been with you for 3 years. He knows the system, has a strong arm, and is more mobile than Favre. Tell Brett he is retired and stick with Rodgers. I remember things working out pretty well for a QB named Young when he took over for the GREAT Joe Montana. It is now Rodgers time, and Packers fans should back this guy and the Packers.

All Rodgers is basically say is, “Make up your flipping mind instead of all this media circus shit year after year.” First his kids want him to retire and now they want him to play. Blah blah blah. I’d be pissed off if I was a Packers fan for putting up with this BS. I almost hope he comes back and is a major flop.

First of all go look at the photo on the posted link. This a 17 year vet choking in yet another big game. This particular article is complete nonsense. Ted Thompson is very popular with Packer fans. Rogers has gone out of his way for his teammates. Favre is done and if the picture in the link doesn’t prove it, then nothing will.

The networks really missed out when they bypassed the next reality show based on GB and Favre.
Thompson is such a great GM, just look at how he pays his respects to the HOFer. Favre is going to get TT fired, then maybe he’ll take his job by proxy. Meaning that Brett really doesn’t like Wisconsin, but he can run the team from Mississippi.

It’s very shortsighted of the Packers to want Brett to come back. He’s already retired and him coming back to play could only last a season…maybe two. You’re going to have to let him go at some point, and face it, the Packers are not going to the Superbowl, they don’t have the talent. The defense is getting older and not better.
They drafted Rogers in the first round years ago, and paid him serious money as a result. They felt he was good enough to take in the first round, so let him take the reins and move on. If they don’t, and they take Favre back to play a little more, Rogers’ contract will expire, they’ll be bad blood, they’ll lose him, and they’ll be back to square one…and completely S out of luck.

I dont see what everyone is giving Rodgers such a bad rep and counting him out already. In the 3 years he has been in the NFL you seem him go 1 maybe 2 series under center. you can not base how goos he will be from that. if you ask me Rodgers is the biggest sleeper in the NFL. think about it he road the pine pney for 3 years learing from one of the greatest players to ever set foot on the fied. i wish i was in his shoes to have a mentor like that ( better than Vinny T and some of the other old heads) give the kid a chance and he will suprise you, and if he does turn out to be a bust it is his own fault for not learing/listening to farve all theses years.

Florio, in your opinion, what could the Pack get for Rodgers in a trade? As rightfully pissed as Rodgers would get if he was bumped back to the #2 spot, he is under contract for two years, and if ‘08 is Favre’s last year, Rodgers starts ‘09 well, the Packers want him as their franchise, and Rodgers sees he is in a great spot to succeed both individually and as a team, is there anyway the relationship could be mended?
