Rodgers career will most likely end in a bathtub accident before he can tie the cleats for his first game.
When touchdowns whiz through the gb secondary like the December Lameblow wind, then everyone will understand.

Minnesota
Chicago
Detroit
Green Bay

It's just the natural order of things

I'm laughing at the Packers fans right now who want Favre back.

He won his one Super Bowl. He set some records, one of which is likely to never be surpassed (the INT record), especially if he comes back and throws 15 or so more. He can still sling it, and so he'll get a lot of yards and a lot of TDs and even a lot of regular season wins but it has been clear for a half a decade that Brett Favre has won his last Super Bowl. Another year delay in Aaron Rogers development with the team is fine with everyone else in the NFC, I'm sure.

Good luck Pack fan.

Hey JimmySmith, feel free to continue your Favretastic circle jerk in private if you can't handle public commentary on him. I suggest the Packers win more than one championship in the last 30 years before they can be considered a franchise that other teams should emulate. Mismanagement put them in a gigantic hole that lasted from the late 60's to the early 90's... they're looking like they're headed that way again and I'm loving every minute of it, couldn't happen to a more deserving team or group of chump fanbois. By the way... SCOREBOARD.

Rodgers is only 24 years old, a whole college career away from his prime. He has time to sit another year, and I think it is pure speculation to think that he would demand a trade. Where else is he going to have a situation this good? He has one of the best young offensive minds in the game as his coach, and McCarthy has made Rodgers into the QB that we think he is supposed to be today. A year ago, Rodgers was looking like a big bust based on his previous work in his first 2 pre-seasons and mop-up duty(when he broke his foot). He also has a team that is stacked with young talent, that is only going to get better. Sure, it'd be disappointing if Favre came back and he had to sit another year, but is it really so bad to making more money than doctors while sitting on the bench of a super bowl contender, continue to improve your skills, and not get hit/injured(oh wait, he injured his hammy in practice last year). If Favre is totally committed to playing this year, it'd be stupid to turn him away. If we don't take Favre back, and 5 years from now, the Packers still don't get to a Super Bowl, everyone will wonder what could've been if we had Favre for that one year. Also, at least, if we have Favre back, Rodgers is a good plan B if Favre has lost it or gets injured. Favre, Rodgers, Brohm > Rodgers, Brohm, Flynn

There is Vox again giving the Packers some advice. Maybe if the issue is how to cuff your carrot without having your Mom catch you, we could all turn to Vox for advice given his particular level of expertise. But regarding football, I suggest the Cowgirls actually win a playoff within a decade and then we might consider your esteemed advice. In the meantime, go to Walgreens and supersize your next purchase of Jergen's hand lotion you loser.

Here's my best guess at how this will play out. Total speculation, but this is what blogs are all about, right? lol.

Favre comes back -- that seems like a done deal at this point. Thompson et al realize that Rodgers will never resign with them, so Rodgers and a high draft pick get dealt to Miami for Jason Taylor. Favre plays well enough for the Pack to make the Super Bowl. Fickle Favre jerks everyone around again in the 2009 offseason. And in 2010. And 2011, etc etc etc.

Rodgers, happy to leave the Favre on-again off-again psychodrama to Brian Brohm, immediately becomes Miami's best QB. Rodgers-Williams/Brown-Ginn becomes a solid offensive "triad" to build around.

Rodgers has had it better than almost every first round QB taken from a few years before or after he was. He has gotten decent money to learn the game from a good coach and great veteran. he has shown he can play when called on, and has not shown the fans anything negative other than most NFL QBs do get hurt.

It would be great for Rodgers if Favre came back, played well but got hurt, and he was able to step in and lead the team to the playoffs. Even if Favre came back and lost another playoff game, the experience would only add to Aarons value come contract time. Much better than Alex Smith or David Carr ae looking at on second deals.

Fav-rey, I'm a Cowboys fan, so no sour grapes agenda about Favre kicking MY team's ass past present or future, and I would be really pissed off if, say, Troy Aikman did this to the Cowboys. The problem with the Packers is that they've let Favre run the team for way too long. He's become bigger than the team in the fan's eyes. I doubt that you suffered that extreeeeeemely long crappy streak that the Packers had very well but you must understand that cutting the team's throat in order to appease the hasbeen demigod and his dimbulb fans is the quickest way to get tangled in ANOTHER multi-decade period of suckage. You cannot allow one guy to be bigger than the team.

To reiterate... my favorite team is the Dallas Cowboys, and they're 9-2 against Lord Favre... with three different QBs and four different head coaches. No sour grapes agenda here.

The real story is how bad a shaft Rodgers is recieving....from the Packers, from Favre, from the media, and from ignorant fans.

Rodgers hasn't proven anything yet because he's had to quietly sit and wait for Favre to make up his mind. There has never been any open competition in camp for the QB position. It's not like he failed to take it from Favre. He was never given a shot and now it appears the Packers may fold and some other team is going to make a great grab on a young, talented, and developed NFL QB when he either demands a trade or refuses to re-sign. They'll have wasted all the time and money they've spent on him as well.

The Packers will make the playoffs this year (wildcard) and lose in the 1st round....Brett will play badly and retire again. Then Rodgers points and laughs at the Packers with a middle finger in the air and signs with the Bears the first day of free agency. Write it down. That's what will happen if the Packers take Favre back.

And the draft didn't say jack about Rodgers. With Favre's retirement there was a need to add depth at that position. Rodgers has shown promise every time he got game snaps. He performed very well against Dallas. Those rooks on the team haven't shown jack to anybody at this point.

Sucks for Rodgers that the entirety of his first pro contract (also shis best years from a physical standpoint) are almost gone because the guy he was drafted to replace can't find any more meaning to his life than playing football. Favre is just another dumb meathead jock who can't live without the game. Hey Brett, take up scuba diving or something. Go travel and see the world and do stuff while you're still a relatively young man and have money to burn. Move on....everybody else has.

Mad Dog is right. Favre was great, but he forced his last thrown to Donald Driver and cost the Packers a chance at going to the Super Bowl. Favre's recent history is that he plays poorly in big games, including the playoff loss to the Eagles several years ago. Favre was terrible against Dallas and in the cold against Chicago last year. As for Aaron Rodgers, I have heard that he worked very hard to win over his team mates, including hosting them at his house on Wednesday nights. Some of the Packer vets, like Al Harris, might be rooting for Favre's return, but Al Harris is also a declining player and isn't entirely realistic about his own abilities at this point.

People forget that Favre was once a young guy with potential who needed coaching and an opportunity to become a great player. Just as Favre got his chance, Aaron Rodgers deserves a chance to play now. Since Favre doesn't bother to dress with his team mates, it's hard to say that he is a great team mate or one of the guys. Any comeback by Favre would be for his own ego or wallet, not necessarily the good of the team. Does anyone remember Jerry Rice trying to hang on as a 5th or 6th receiver with the Broncos a couple of years ago?

Mad Dog is right. Favre was great, but he forced his last thrown to Donald Driver and cost the Packers a chance at going to the Super Bowl. Favre’s recent history is that he plays poorly in big games, including the playoff loss to the Eagles several years ago. Favre was terrible against Dallas and in the cold against Chicago last year. As for Aaron Rodgers, I have heard that he worked very hard to win over his team mates, including hosting them at his house on Wednesday nights. Some of the Packer vets, like Al Harris, might be rooting for Favre’s return, but Al Harris is also a declining player and isn’t entirely realistic about his own abilities at this point.

If the Packers decide to go with the ancient hasbeen over the young first round draft pick, I don't think that they're going to have much luck trying to get a lot for the young guy in trade. If they don't think that highly of him, why should anyone else?

Why do so many NON packer fans come on here whinning like little girls about how mad they would be about Favre if they were packer fans. I am a Packer fan and could not be happier about Favre's return, in fact, like many others, I predicted it!! You are either a moron or have another agenda, like maybe you are sick of Favre kicking your teams ass and just when you finally thought he was gone.

Some of you guys trip me out. I was born and raised 10 miles from Lambeau and have family members that played for Lombardi. Reading some of these comments about Brett make me wonder what the hell you people are smoking. Before Brett Favre, the Packers had only won one playoff game since 1967! We were the laughing stock of the league and I was sometimes ashamed to be a fan. You guys act like he's been out of the league for 5 years and is trying to come back. He only announced retirement a few months ago so it's not like he's going to have a to shake off a lot of ring rust. Be realistic....all he's missed is a mini-camp. He was 2nd in the running for mvp last year and piloted the packers to their best record ever. One bad decision at the end of a very long and cold game and you guys act like he should blow his brains out. Who honestly thinks that a kid who's never started an NFL game is going to be the missing piece of the puzzle that gets us back to the SB?

before last year werent people saying it was time for him to hang it up after a couple of mediocre to bad seasons?then he and the pack get lucky for 1 year and now all of sudden they are a lock to win it all when he comes back? personaly I hope he does and reverts back to his gunslinger self like in the giants game and throws a ton of picks and the pack come back down to earth. cheeseheads love to slam on the bears but unlike the pack they took advantage of the homefield in the playoffs and went to the superbowl. yea they lost but they went unlike lord favre and the pack.I love how you are overlooking the bears based on the off year they had due to everyone on defense being injured but they still beat lord favre and the pack twice. and don't say those games did not matter. when the pack won on new years eve 2 years ago you would have thought you won the superbowl but the bears win and it's a meaningless game? anyway have fun with your soap opera and you don't get to whine if it doesn't work out.

Here's what you do...

First, if Favre really wants to return you get a 2 year commitment from him. So next off season there is no "will I or wont I" its a non-issue and he is playing.

Secondly, you trade Rodgers to get his sorry ass out of the locker room. You let Brohm & Flynn back-up Favre for two years and if either of them doesn't look the part you draft another QB next year.

This makes the fans happy, Rodgers happy, & gives Thompson a second or third round pick to use next year. Everyone saves face, and I think its possible. I believe that would also take Favre to the end of his contract so if GB cant resign him its not their fault...

Consider their trade value:

A Rog gets you a 3rd or maybe a 3rd and 5th round pick.
B Favre gets you a 1st round pick from a quarterback desperate team that has superbowl dreams.

Decision: Bring Favre back and trade him to whatever team gives you the most.

The Packers drafting Brian Brohm told you everything you needed to know about Aaron Rodgers. The Packers are suprisingly built to win now with a rock solid defense and a capable running game with good young recievers. I also didn't realize how favorable the cap hit would be cutting or trading Rodgers. Aaron has had three years to start to plant his seed of leadership with the team as well as develop relationships w/ his teammates. His fault, that is a major part of his job that he not only had ample time to do but failed miserably at. Get rid of him, let Favre come back and play until he gets it out of his system and or is productive and develop Brohm to take over in a year or two.

Have you even watched the Packers? They're one of the youngest teams in the league. Another tidbit, the Packers aren't asking him to return.

This really is a slow time in the NFL, but who does not think Brett can still play, the Pack still wants him, and the other minor conflicts of interest are there but basically a non factor. Brett will want to play again eventually and they will make room for him to start when heh does. he would have retired 5 years ago if he had any intention of walking away with good football still in him.

He has a big contract, does not want to do OTAs and 2 a days, but still wants to win another SB and perhaps lock up the passing records.

We will take him in B More if the Pack does not want him back. He is an interception waiting to happen, but no QB has made more plays either.

Brett Favre needs to move on or move out. For years he has hand cuffed a team and a city that loves him and has always supported him despite some very mediocre performances over the years.

The Packers already spend a 1st round pick on a guy who may never get the shot in Green Bay, if Favre comes back this year that pick is wasted and with it the money invested in Rodgers.

"The defense is getting older and not better."

To prove how wrong you are, I looked it up and the average age of our eleven starters is 27.1 years. Wow, that's pretty old all right, genius. We have a couple of up-and-comers that will be able to fill in for Harris soon enough, who is the ONLY starting defender showing signs of decline. As far as back-ups, the oldest guy, KGB, is 30, and was an extremely effective pass-rush specialist last year. Our top three secondary back-ups have an average age of 24. Talk about over-the-hill!

What's your next brilliant statement? Is pacman jones going to mentor chris henry back into this league??

Wrathchild: I love it how guys comment on a team they obviously know very little about.

The Packers tied Dallas for the best record in the NFC last year and will again be one of the Top 3 NFC teams if Favre comes back. If it weren't for an all around terrible effort by the team against NY we would have made the SB. Not to take anything away from the Giants, as they played well, deserved to win that game, and fared alot better against NE than we would have, but I'd bet the farm that if we played them five times we win at least three. Moot point, I know, but its just ludacris to say that this team with Favre at the healm has no chance of making the SB.

everyone needs to relax
Aaron Rodgers BLOWS!
and Bret Favre is the best option for Green Bay at Qb if you want to see the playoffs in the next 3 years..
Aaron Rodgers is not the answer. Without Favre do you realize that the NFC North would have the crappiest Qb division in the NFL

Grossman
Kitna
Tevarus Jackson --> lol!
and

drum roll

Aaron Rodgers?
hello 7-9 might equal playoffs in that divison so i take it back ..you may see the playoffs soon

id like to see brett favre in Minnesota cause that team is ready to be GREAT just need a decent Q...
then he could whoop up on GB twice a year until his rogaine butt really wants to hang em up

Let's not crucify Brett just yet. Besides for articles by Mort and King, what real information do we have: a 'no comment' from the organization and "it's all rumor" txt message from Favre.

Let's assume that everything in King's article is accurate, I have to agree with an earlier poster and say the best scenario, besides Brett deciding the itch isn't worth scratching, is to welcome Brett back as the starting QB, but force him to commit through 2009. Trade A-Rod to a QB-needy team and get Brohm ready for 2010.

To the poster who asserted that the Pack has no chance to reach the Super Bowl this year because of the 'old defense,' give me a break. The starting corners are nearing their end, every other starter is either very young or hitting the peak years of their career. Not to mention the Pack has the good problem of having more quality young defensive backs on their roster than they can keep. This is a young team with another year of experience and chemistry under their belts. Here's a quarter, buy a clue.

why not send rodgers packing to tampa for simms and a draft pick? tampa gets their future guys after garcia is gone while getting something for simms. packers get simms to learn for a year or so under favre. seems like perfect fit to me.

@Nuf

"I reject the comment about the NFC North teams. As a Lions fan, I’d give Stanton and/or Orlovsky a shot as starter before I’d give Rodgers a shot. For once, even the Lions’ number 3 QB is better than the starters of any of the other teams in the conference (assuming Favre stays retired). It’s too bad for us though that Kitna likely isn’t much better than our #2 or #3."

And that's why you're a Lion's fan.....

I'd like to see Rodgers go to another team in the NFC North and be a thorn in the Packers' side for the next 12 years. It would be almost as funny as the Patriots going 18-0 and losing in the Super Bowl (just had to bring that up since we have to mention it in every post).

If all these allegations are true, Favre is going to destroy this team for his own personal selfish gains. It's kind of like the abusive husband that beats his wife in order to scare her to not leave him. "If I'm going down, I'm taking everyone with me". Pretty awesome from a guy who deceptively said throughout his career that football is a TEAM sport.

Legacy, down the drain! He could have bowed out like a champ but instead he will become the biggest primadana in NFL history.

You know what? I've been against this whole Favre coming back from the beginning, but GB is instantly one of the top 3 teams in the NFC with their QB back.

Could this have been handled better?
-Yes.
Should GB welcome him back with open arms?
-Yes.

Will he get injured and break his streak because he is on the cover of Madden?
-Yes

Florio, in your opinion, what could the Pack get for Rodgers in a trade? As rightfully pissed as Rodgers would get if he was bumped back to the #2 spot, he is under contract for two years, and if '08 is Favre's last year, Rodgers starts '09 well, the Packers want him as their franchise, and Rodgers sees he is in a great spot to succeed both individually and as a team, is there anyway the relationship could be mended?

I dont see what everyone is giving Rodgers such a bad rep and counting him out already. In the 3 years he has been in the NFL you seem him go 1 maybe 2 series under center. you can not base how goos he will be from that. if you ask me Rodgers is the biggest sleeper in the NFL. think about it he road the pine pney for 3 years learing from one of the greatest players to ever set foot on the fied. i wish i was in his shoes to have a mentor like that ( better than Vinny T and some of the other old heads) give the kid a chance and he will suprise you, and if he does turn out to be a bust it is his own fault for not learing/listening to farve all theses years.

It's very shortsighted of the Packers to want Brett to come back. He's already retired and him coming back to play could only last a season...maybe two. You're going to have to let him go at some point, and face it, the Packers are not going to the Superbowl, they don't have the talent. The defense is getting older and not better.

They drafted Rogers in the first round years ago, and paid him serious money as a result. They felt he was good enough to take in the first round, so let him take the reins and move on. If they don't, and they take Favre back to play a little more, Rogers' contract will expire, they'll be bad blood, they'll lose him, and they'll be back to square one...and completely S out of luck.

The networks really missed out when they bypassed the next reality show based on GB and Favre.
Thompson is such a great GM, just look at how he pays his respects to the HOFer. Favre is going to get TT fired, then maybe he'll take his job by proxy. Meaning that Brett really doesn't like Wisconsin, but he can run the team from Mississippi.

First of all go look at the photo on the posted link. This a 17 year vet choking in yet another big game. This particular article is complete nonsense. Ted Thompson is very popular with Packer fans. Rogers has gone out of his way for his teammates. Favre is done and if the picture in the link doesn't prove it, then nothing will.

All Rodgers is basically say is, "Make up your flipping mind instead of all this media circus shit year after year." First his kids want him to retire and now they want him to play. Blah blah blah. I'd be pissed off if I was a Packers fan for putting up with this BS. I almost hope he comes back and is a major flop.

I followed Favre his entire career, and I love the guy and the way he layED the game. You may think this crazy but the Packers have a better chance of getting to the Super Bowl with Rodgers than they do with Favre. While Favre has made incredible plays in the past and holds basically all the passing records, lets not forget that he also made some horrible mistakes at the most inopportune time. I really feel like you guys have a better chance with Rodgers than with Favre. He's not a rookie. He's been with you for 3 years. He knows the system, has a strong arm, and is more mobile than Favre. Tell Brett he is retired and stick with Rodgers. I remember things working out pretty well for a QB named Young when he took over for the GREAT Joe Montana. It is now Rodgers time, and Packers fans should back this guy and the Packers.
