With G.M. Ted Thompson attempting to resolve a personnel dilemma that could bring his career with the Packers to an abrupt end, a familiar face is returning to town.

As several readers have pointed out, former G.M. Ron Wolf is moving from Annapolis, Maryland back to Green Bay.

Wolf was single-handedly responsible for bringing Favre to the Packers.  Wolf tried in 1991 as an employee of the Jets to draft Favre, but the Falcons got to him first.  Wolf then swung a deal with Atlanta to get Favre to Green Bay after Wolf became the G.M. there.

Though Wolf surely isn’t interested in emerging from retirement, plenty of Packers fans likely will be contemplating the possibility of swapping out Thompson for Wolf, if Thompson refuses to allow Favre to return to the Packers.

And though we don’t know much about whether the Packers’ shareholders have the ability to launch a revolt against Thompson or CEO Mark Murphy at the annual meeting on July 24, we have a feeling that more than a few folks who own one or more shares of the franchise are considering their options for making known their desire that the most beloved player in team history should be permitted to come back, if he wants.

While we’re on the topic (again), here’s a new PFTV segment that looks at what the Packers might do with the most troublesome issue that the franchise likely has ever faced.  (And, yeah, I didn’t wear a tie for this week’s PFTV segments.  It reminded me of one of those dreams where I show up in court wearing a bathrobe, or with my underwear over my suit pants.  Wait, the last one wasn’t a dream.)
