On the same day that news broke of possible efforts to sell the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team did some actual business, agreeing to terms with third-round draft pick Bruce Davis, an outside linebacker.
The news of the signing comes from Adam Caplan of Scout.com. Per Caplan, Davis will receive a signing bonus of roughly $500,000 on a three-year deal, with base salaries of $285,000, $385,000, and $470,000 in 2008, 2009, and 2010, respectively.
The Steelers are one of the few teams that will ink third-round picks to three-year deals. The maximum in rounds three through seven is four years. Some teams insist on the longer deals, which keeps the player off the restricted free agent market.
Caplan reports that the Steelers also are close to signing fifth-round quarterback Dennis Dixon, who was a Heisman Trophy candidate with Oregon before tearing an ACL.
