With July 4th come and gone, it’s high time for NFL teams to get their draft picks signed. The Pittsburgh Steelers clearly agree.
The team and offensive tackle Tony Hills, their fourth-round pick, signed a three-year contract today. According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Hills will receive a signing bonus of $304,500 and yearly salaries of $295,000, $385,000 and $470,000.
Hills, who played his collegiate ball at Texas, suffered a broken leg during his senior season and, if he recovers fully, may have been a steal in the fourth round for Pittsburgh. He’s the first of the seven Steeler draftees to agree to a contract.

I’m hoping he’s a keeper. Smith is a free agent and I don’t know that the Steelers can get a long term deal with Starks worked out. I still don’t get the transition tag deal on Starks. He looked good at left tackle when Smith was out but I think the Steelers panicked. So in summary, I like Hills fine but really needed a moment to bitch abotu the Steelers tackle situation.

you could say this about almost any team’s draft class at this team of year, but if Mendenhall, Sweed, Davis, and Hills all play to their potential this could one hell of a draft class.
I know that is a real “no shit” statement, but they all seem to have the chance to make major contributions. I’m starting to get real excited about Bruce Davis.
