You can't go wrong with either. Depends who your receivers are, tall recivers=manning short recivers=brady.

At least it seems that way.

-----Going by those statistics, Brady only threw 1 TD in that game. Peyton threw 6 picks against the Chargers, and was still in a position to win the game. They had about equal games, stat wise, other than the picks, but you’re also comparing a team against one of the better defenses in the league, to one with a bunch of injuries, that has never been STRONG mainly because they are getting help from the offense.-----

Sorry, am I mis-reading this, or are you complaining about the Colts having to deal with injuries?

drock81 - Your ignornance is very entertaining. Please keep posting on this topic. Nice logic, you pick his worst rated game of his career(which he still won) and base your argument on that? I have a stat for you, look up the ratings for the 3 games that got them to the Super Bowl that year. I'll help you out, 148.7, 95.3, and 124.9 - all on the road. So even with his lousy SB, his playoff rating that year was over 100. How about his 3 perfect passer ratings? The's only one other QB in history who can say that - Peyton Manning. Name me 6 QB's better in the NFL. I'll help you out. Brady, Manning. Those are the easy one's. After that, you can argue about Romo, Palmer...then who? Brees? McNabb can't stay healthy. Rivers? I just picked up a Sporting News today and the seem to agree with me. 3rd best in the AFC(they rated by conf.) I know you hate the Steelers for some reason, but don't let it cloud your judgement, it makes you look like a joke.

steelersIA, Ben Roethlisberger is a very average qb at best. Top 6 in the league? Are you kidding me? Look at the passer rating in the Super Bowl and find this stat:his wide receiver had a better passer rating. His own passer rating was the worst in Super Bowl history. The first year when he went 15-1 the Steelers won despite having him at qb. There are kids in high school who are better qb's than him. Get your head out of your ass.

"I’ve said this before, but feel it bears repeating.

-Most coaches pick Brady over Manning**

**Tom Brady was PROVEN to have had prior knowledge of what defenses he was facing.

You can spout off all of the statistics you want, but that little asterik should follow any that you list. "

If you think every QB in the league doesn't watch tapes, you're pretty oblivious to the game.

QB's review tape, they read defenses, etc. Woooo, Brady knew what defense they were running. So do the brothers Manning, and any other pro QB.

Is Tom Brady getting into the HOF gonna be an issue?

John Madden...Al Davis's micro managing

Belichicks... recording defense signals (allegedly)

Michael Irvin...drug use

VERY CONTROVERSIAL!

I C light pounder says we have to "stop blowing Brady and Manning"...

You see, this is why Steeler fans get a bad rap - because of statements made by a guy like this. Hey, Speedo, the responders were NFL coaches! Not writers, not fans. Now you can roll out all of that black and gold nonsense but the truth is with Cowher gone, and even though you've got an excellent QB, it is going to be a very long time before the Steelers return to championship-caliber football.

Come on stop with the conspiracy theories. Brady is a great QB and a hall of famer. So is Manning but people take Brady because of the leadership qualities. you won't see Brady throwing his O-line under the bus after a playoff loss. Brady has performed great in the playoffs. Granted the Super Bowl loss wasn't pretty but Manning has had more of his share of lousy playoff games. Ben is a good QB and so is Palmer. But they aren't in the same league as Brady and Manning and Brady is the better leader and a more proven winner. Maybe Brady had a stacked offense this year no doubt. But this wasn't always the case and he still won 3 rings. Up until this year, the Colts always had the better offense. Harrison, Wayne, Clark and for a few years Edgerrin James is quite the squad, and better than anyhting the Patriots had up until this year

Yes, I'm a Steelers fan but when I come to this site I hope to talk to objective, knowledgeable fans.

I can't decide who's the most clueless, my fellow Steeler fans who say Ben is better than Brady and Manning or the idiots who say Ben sucks. If you rank all NFL QB's 1 to 32 and don't have been somewhere between 3 and 6 you're either a homer or a hater(God I hate that stupid term, but it seems to fit here).

I understand the homers, but how can you say you know anything about football if you say Ben's awful? He's had 4 season's in the league and he's only had one where his passer rating was below 98. Career it's still 92, even with a 75 after the motorcycle year.

He's won 2 division titles, an AFC title, a Super Bowl and is 5-2 in the playoffs. How many records did he set as a rookie? He's only had one season with more than 11 picks. Did I mention he did all this before turning 26?

Yeah, he's f***in terrible.

kellyb9:

That is not the benchmark. Its been beaten to death. Trent Dilfer has 1 ring, Dan Marino has 0... Trent Dilfer > Dan Marino?

NonYahooHotmailAcct:

Going by those statistics, Brady only threw 1 TD in that game. Peyton threw 6 picks against the Chargers, and was still in a position to win the game. They had about equal games, stat wise, other than the picks, but you're also comparing a team against one of the better defenses in the league, to one with a bunch of injuries, that has never been STRONG mainly because they are getting help from the offense.

Brady deserves it, he is the best quarterback in the league, and if I had to build a team I would do it around him. He has done it before with minimal weapons before, look what happened when he actually had people to throw to.

The question was: What player would most NFL head coaches choose? THEY chose Brady. Start your own poll if you must, but this discussion is over. So say the coaches.

sarcasm,

It is the end of argument. You have successfully argued that Manning had much more talent on offense around him which helped him pile up better statistics while Brady had more talent on defense that helped him amass more wins. Your stats really doesn't end the debate on who is better though.

I think that debate will never be firmly decided unless Brady continues to amass Madden type numbers with Randy Moss as his primary WR or Manning still puts up good numbers with both Harrison and Wayne out of the line up. Both guys have had different weapons to work with on both sides of the ball to really say definitely who is best. You can argue one over the other, but there will never be consensus with what we know now of the two.

Several posters need to put down their football magazines and actually watch the games. For years, there's been a misconception that Manning has a better arm than Brady. Nothing could be further from the truth. Manning is an excellent passer, but has average arm strength, which is greatly camouflaged by playing indoors. In the dome, or even in road trips to his SOUTHERN rivals, Mannings wobblers are not affected by the elements.

Brady, on the other hand, throws tight spirals, can throw it harder, farther, and all this while playing outdoors, in the northeast. Brady has the proverbial "big arm," while Manning is more like Dan Fouts ( a timing passer).

Robo, don't you know most of the people who post on this site know more than most of the HC's in the NFL? I find it funny that anytime there is a post Patriot related which article gets the most hits. Its great that another season is about to begin & once again we have the best QB in the NFL.To all the Steeler fans,Big Ben is good but not in the same conversation. Sorry, but the coaches have spoken.

Tom Brady cost his team the SB last year says IC LightPounder...you really have no sense of the game do you? With the pressure Brady received all game it's a wonder he didn't throw three picks. He had a very good game as well as the rest of the team sans their O line. I won't take anything away from the Gents, but that O line played like Nick Kaczur handed out his goodies to them...Go back and watch the game if you can, because I want to give you the benefit of the doubt that you were just drunk and didn't really pay attention.

Not to mention the Rodney Harrison of old would've laid out Tyree instead of letting him come down with that Velcro catch.

I'll give Brady the nod just because he engineered some drives that were just downright clutch, not that Manning isn't but Brady just comes out on top in the bigger games more than...

My guess is the coaches chose Brady over Manning because of Manning's lack of leadership. Brady can turn into a whiney little baby when he loses too, but Manning tossed his O-line under the bus on national TV.

Let's not forget that this poll was conducted using NFL coaches as the responders. My take, being a Patriots fan, I like it and I agree; but, I say this honestly, it is a win-win with these two. They are 1 and 1A with nobody else in their class. I have been watching Brady and Manning from the beginning of their careers. Peyton started out in the AFC East so I have followed him intently. He is an amazing football player. Brady has worked as hard or harder than anybody to get to where he is. Like I said, they are in a class by themselves in today's NFL. Sorry Steeler fans, Ben is great too, but not in their class. As a matter of fact if Ben does not get an improved OL for pass protection he won't last. He is too much of a warrior in as much as he will tuck-it and run instead of getting rid of the damn ball! Favre is a living legend. Marino was a once in a lifetime passer. Joe Montana is the benchmark to which they all are measured. We are all lucky to have the NFL. It is going to be a great season in 2008.

I C light pounder,

I agree. Future HOFers like Reche Caldwell, Doug Gabriel, David Patten, David Gives, Antowain Smith, etc. carried Brady all those years. These guys are like a Who’s Who in first ballot Hall of Famers over the next ten years.

God, when you look back at that receiving corp, it's amazing what he's done. Jesus, they really were awful.

Brady's first great receiver translated into him breaking the single season touchdown pass record and the receiver getting the td reception record. He made Deion Branch look so good that the team got a first round pick for him and he made David Givens an ungodly amount of money out the door. He's got the jewelry and now has the records. Anyone who disparages him is an idiot. As for Manning, he's on the same level as Brady and nobody else is. Both are great quarterbacks and you could argue it either way. 2007 was the first year that Manning's supporting cast fell off (Harrison hurt and aging) and Manning fell off. So maybe Brady gets an edge for now.

I C light pounder:

I'll take your bet, gladly. Are we talking TD/INT ratio? Team Win/Loss record? Passing Yards?

I mean, seriously name it, and I'll take your bet. I hate Peyton, but I'll gladly take some suckers 5 "bones". Hell, wanna make it a couple hundred since you're so confident in Big Ben ROFFLESburger?

End of argument.

90+ rating games
Manning has had 101 90+ games out of 160 starts 79-22 record or 63% of his starts.
Brady has had 56 90+ rating games out of 110 starts or 50.9% of the time. In the 56 games that Brady had a 90+ qb rating his Patriots were 55-1.

Games with a 69.9 rating or less
Manning has had a 69.9 rating or lower in 29 starts with a 6-23 record or 18.1% of his starts.
Brady has had 22 out of 110 starts or 20.0% of the time. In the 22 games that Brady's rating was less than 69.9 his Patriots were 11-11.

90+rating games
The Pats score 31.0 ppg vs. giving up 16.0 ppg in Brady's 56 90+ rating games,
while the Colts score 32.3 ppg vs. giving up 22.2 in Manning's 101 90+ rating games.

In the 69.9 or below games.
Manning & the Colts scored 14.4 while giving up 27.0 ppg.
Brady & the Pats scored 16.5 ppg while giving up 17.8 ppg.

Brady has lost 2 games when scoring 24+ points.
Manning has lost 17 games when scoring 24+points.
Manning has lost 6 games when scoring 30+points.
Brady hasn't lost when his team scores 30 points.

Thanks for playing.

For those of you that need a translator, the answer is Peyton Manning.

TBIH,

How many years jhas Manning been without a first round pick Wr or a first round pick RB?

I do agree that if your primary receivers are locked HOFers in Troy Brown, Deion Branch, David Givens, or David Patten, you should have a top rated offense. Brady failed them. All I can say if Jerry Rice can get into the HOF and David Patten can't, the entire HOF is a joke. Can anyone seriously say that Jerry "I am a Product of Joe Montana" Rice is half as good as David "I would be the greatest WR of all time if my QBs didn't hold me back" Patten? Seriously?!?

So how long have you been a "mainstream sports media lemming"? You do realize this was a poll of NFL HEAD COACHES and neither the media nor the fans don't you? What does media have to do with 22 of 29 head coaches selecting Brady over anyone else?

yinz need to get off your knees and stop blowing brady and manning and open up your eyes. HIGHLY OVER RATED! both of them are. and you wanna talk about playing in the SB. if i do believe Peyton Manning did not have the best SB performance the one (and only) time he was there. and i do believe Brady cost his team the SB last year. so get off the manning/brady ban wagon and support a real team / QB

and by the way if yinz aint a stiller fan then yinz aint shit!

I am calling it and will put 5 bones on it the Big Ben does better than both of them this season

ThePeoplesChampion says:
Manning did it without a defense for most of his career, and the Colts running game has been up and down since they drafted him.

Uhhhh....Ok. Up and down, lets see...
Marshal Faulk
Edgerin James
Domanick Rhodes ( first undrafted rookie to run for 1000yrds in 1/2 a season.)After James got hurt.
Josheph Addi

Where exactly is the down?

When Manning goes a year with Reche Caldwell as his number one reciever and gets the Colts to the AFC Championship, I'll call this a close race... until then... it's Brady with a BIG lead.

Big Dumb Ben is stupid, doesn't have a great arm, and just throws the ball up to Hines. He hides behind a great run game. And this bad line u talk about....what the hell is wrong with you...the Steelers had a great line while Ben has been starting.
Shit Big Dumb Ben isn't even the best QB on his TEAM.
Best in the NFL???? Damn dude u gotta be smokin weed laced with plastic pellets.
Who in the right mind would even put Ben in the top 40 QBs in the NFL???
Manning is the smartest QB in the NFL. And quite possibly has the best arm.
Brady is a very smart QB, and has the second best arm.
Brady gets the nod because he is younger.
Big Dumb Ben gets no votes cuz he sucks. I'd take back Ray Lucas on the Phins before I got Ben on my team....
Delusional Morons these days.....

@cantgetenough - Your pass rush arguement is a moot point. People have been blitzing Manning and Brady their entire careers, and you're relating everything back to one game where the Pat's Oline was horrendous. And between them they still have 4 Super Bowls. I think they are both great QB's and we are lucky to be an era where we can see them compete against each other. I'd take Tom Brady over Manning just because of the garbage he's had at wide receiver for so many years. every single WR that left New England did nothing since then including former Super Bowl MVP Deion Branch. For a good deal of that time, he had a decent running attack, but nowhere near as good as Manning has had. Antwan Smith sucked after 2001, Corey Dillon was decent albeit a shell of his former self... and Lawerance Maroney... well we're still waiting for that to develop.

I can't believe people even respond to these roethlisberger homers. I'm impressed that no cowboys fan has yet called Romo the best QB of all time in this thread, but seriously, Roethlisberger? Yeah, ok and Rex Grossman will be the NFL MVP this year.

How many times have the Brady-led Pats won the Super Bowl when the offense was ranked higher than the defense?

Zero.

But no really...keep giving Brady 100% of the credit for the Pats 3 SBs. It only helps me separate the mainstream sports media lemmings from the intelligent NFL fans.

Why even bother responding to wingnut? The guy posts the type of crap on nearly every remotely Patriots related thread. His obsession and jealousy (and yes, I said jealousy because no one is this obsessed if he isn't jealous) is well documented.

wingnut says:

Yes, Peyton had to overcome the adversity of going through life with a goofy name.

And Brady faked all those SB.

Nice try, wingnut, but I think your moniker says sit all.

This poll was a no-brainer. Brady has an advantage given that his 4 AFC Championships and 4 NFL Championships would leave more of an impression on the 5 current headcoaches who were standing on the sidelines of those games, as well as their assistants who went on to become current headcoaches. Peyton's 1 AFC Championship and 1 NFL Championship does not leave the same impression.

Most NFL coaches prefer Brady--oh & also most super models too! Peyton should stick to licking oreos.

TheRealDeal2431,

You can't compare them that way. Because I bet if you switched the two QB's situations and Brady would be on pace to break every QB record and Manning would have the rings. I am a Pats fan and think they are both close. Manning had the advantage of having a Hall of Fame receiver his entire career along with a solid line and a great RB and other receivers in that time. Other than last year, Brady had average at best and many times just mediocre talent around him on offense, but was blessed with a great defense and Belichick.

Any reasonable person wouldn't pick either 10 times out of 10 as to who is better. I would pick Brady 10 times out of 10 if I was starting a franchise and I knew the talent around the QB was going to be average or weak. We don't know what Manning can do without premere talent around him, but we know Brady can perform with a guy like Reche Caldwell as his primary WR.
