Over the weekend, the Boss shared, via a one-liner, that the Browns weren’t looking to add another receiver in the wake of Joe Jurevicius’s latest surgery.

One wonders if a report in the Akron Beacon-Journal might make them a little more likely to try and add another body for the upcoming season.  Patrick McManamon reports that “rumors are flying” that the wideout will need microfracture surgery on his knee.  If true, such a surgery would turn doubts about his training camp availability into doubts about his availability for the season.

Jurevicius’s teammate Kellen Winslow had the surgery in January 2007 and came back to have a great season but it’s July already and microfracture surgery, in a best case scenario, takes four months of rehabilitation but it can take much longer.  Winslow is an unusual success story, however, and other players like Terrell Davis and Andre Wadsworth have seen the surgery bring their careers to untimely ends.  If Jurevicius does need the procedure it could well end his career.

As for the Browns, no Jurevicius would make it hard to see them standing pat.  They’ve expressed confidence in Travis Wilson, Kevin Kasper and Josh Cribbs as the options behind Braylon Edwards and Donte’ Stallworth but you can’t help but think they always counted on Jurevicius when the dust settled.  Does that mean trade talks for Eric Parker of San Diego will reignite?
