Former Chargers safety Terrence Kiel died Friday night in a car accident. He was 27.
The accident occurred in the Scripps Ranch area of San Diego. A witness told police that Kiel was driving a 2004 Chevy sedan the wrong way before losing control and rolling it. Kiel was ejected from the vehicle.
Kiel was a second-round pick in the 2003 draft. He appeared in every game in 2003 and 2004, 12 in 2005, and 15 in 2006.
The Chargers released him in 2007 after he pleaded guilty to sending codeine-laced cough syrup to Houston, presumably for use as the main ingredient in the beverage known as “lean” or “purple drank.” No other team signed him.

Don’t drive the WRONG WAY and don’t drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Such a shame. Especially when a seatbelt could have saved his life.

It’s strange reading an article that wasn’t ANOTHER assault on a pregnant girlfriend, an assault on a woman, a firearms charge, a shooting, a hit-and-run or a drug charge.
I’m sure I’ve left something out.

OMG I knew that dude. Played poker with him at the Village Club cardroom here in San Diego.
Seemed to enjoy life. Had a buddy of his hang around and play sometimes, who he was teaching poker to, it seemed.
Every time I saw him, in my mind I said “Purple Draaaaank!”
I think he was troubled, maybe, at not being picked up after being released.
Very sad.

Was leaving that area of town around 10pm last night, must have seen about 4 fire trucks, 6 squad cars, and 2 ambulances heading in the opposite direction… knew something serious had to have happened and it’s sad to see a former charger (even though he was garbage and was more focused on the purple stuff) go down like this… RIP TK

I don;t want to sound cruel, but at least he didn’t hurt anybody else. Usually when somebody is driving the wrong way, they are under the influence of something and they kill innocent people and walk away.

Lots of drunk drivers this offseason. This is what happens.
I read elsewhere that his friends were trying to convince him not to drive home from the party.
Sad situation. Prayers for the family.

I cant believe you people!! I knew this man personally and he was an amazing person…vibrant and full of life. His energy was magnetic, he was intelligent and overall easy going. How can you call someone “scum” and “trash”? Shame on you people.
Yea he had gotten into trouble but he was just a kid when it all happened. He was getting his life back on track…he was going to play for the Chargers next season actually….
By the way…hes got a young child that survived him and one day he will be a grown up that wants to find out what the public thought of his daddy…..shame on you people.

Steve Foley got drunk, drove, and lost his career. Kiel lost his life. When will people learn? So sad. So very sad.
