Our pal Newy Scruggs takes mild issue with our assessment that Cowboys coach Wade Phillips is on the hot seat.
Cowboys fifth-round rookie Orlando Scandrick isn’t lacking in confidence.
New Raiders strength coach Brad Roll is helping WR Ronald Curry get in better shape.
Tom Sorensen of the Charlotte Observer goes a little Buzz Bissinger on us, even though Sorensen likewise ignores the fact that fish-wrap writers routinely rely on anonymous sources for matters far more significant than the team for which a graybearded quarterback might want to play football.
The 17-year-old nephew of Titans DE Jevon Kearse has been arrested for robbery with a firearm. (Why couldn’t he have simply followed his uncle’s example and gotten a DUI?)
Childs Walker of the Baltimore Sun has it all wrong when it comes to the Brett Favre frenzy — it’s not a product of the media, but of Brett’s inability to make decisions, and of his willingness to talk about it.
Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez might already be brewing up his next batch of Pacman Jones/Chris Henry for the NFL.

In your defense Sorensen thinks Delhomme is competing with Chris Weinke and not Matt Moore.

Sorensen is a lousy columnist, but he has a point. You guys are throwing stuff up against the wall with that rumor. Farve is not playing for the Panthers next year.

The Brett Favre MEDIA “frenzy” is most certainly the
product of the MEDIA. They are the ones writing stories
that are made up of 99.99% opinion and .01% second hand
information and sources.
According to Florio these stories are caused by Favre’s
inability to make decisions and talk about them? Ha ha!
He has made a decision and I’m sure the media would love
for Favre to talk about it so they can write more stories
and sell more drivel.
Does Favre want to play again. Probably. Does that mean
he is responsible for the countless stories and media
coverage? No!

I don’t think RichRod recruits the best kids in the world, but it’s a little tough to blame him for Grady drinking like a fish and hopping behind the wheel, mostly because Rod had nothing to do with recruiting or keeping Grady at Michigan for 3 mediocre years. Grady’s going to find out that when you a) aren’t very good and b) have a new coach that needs to prove he can be tough on law breakers, that scholarship can evaporate quickly.

I have to agree with marcruck - who cares about players relatives, unless you think that the news would affect that players performance? Come on, training camp is only two weeks away, then you’ll have plenty of REAL news.

The media loves Favre, it is big time news to them. The media darling that is Favre enables the media to just speculate and flat out lie and get away with it and blame it on Favre’s waffling.

Farve will not play for Carolina, because Delhomme is healthy, and our front office is littered with idiots. HOWEVER, Tom Sorenson really is awful so don’t listen to a word he says.

If the Cowboys don’t win a playoff game - something they haven’t done in 11 seasons and counting - Wade will be fired. I’d say the seat is quite warm.
Phillips’ laissez-faire coaching style is wonderful when you win and all you have to do is go to the podium and make a couple of aw-shucks comments to the press, but I’ve always wondered how he would handle adversity with his current group of characters if adversity presented itself. I predict not well.

With owners like Al Davis and Jerry Jones, the head coach is always on the hot seat. Doesn’t Scruggs remember how Barry Switzer became head coach?
BTW, is Newy related to Earl Scruggs of Flat and Scruggs (most people would recognize one song they did - the theme to Beverly Hillbillies).

I find it funny how when someone doesn’t outwardly respond to the 50 rumors being brought onto them, they’re “indecisive”. Favre has made it clear that the rumors behind his “coming back” are all ridiculous, yet everyone is still running with it. Coming up with rumors and theories that rival High Times. Hell, even my Vikings and the Bears writers have articles welcoming Favre; seems as though every wanna-be, low-class writer has some retarded theory as to what they think Favre will do. But in the end it becomes pretty clear:
This whole thing is why players avoid talking to the media.

Florio, I completely agree with your take on Childs Walker’s story o Fare and the media. Walker tries to compare Favre’s retirement to those of Montana, Marino and Elway. He says there was never speculation about whether they would return or retire. He’s right. But it is because they made one announcement that they were retiring. They didn’t ponder it for three or four offseasons. Their agents didn’t come out and say they might want to come back, even if they did have those thoughts. The media covers what they are hearing. If Favre doesn’t want these rumors circulating, all he would have to do is state that he is retired, end of story, and tell his agent to stop talking about him coming back. If Favre and Cook would stop talking, the media would stop writing.
