Receiver Kelly Campbell, who showed potential as a member of the Vikings but who then was exiled from the NFL due in part to an inability to stay beyond the reach of the long arm of the law, is playing football in Canada.
And he’s already making an impact. In a good way.
Campbell caught eight passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns for the Edmonton Eskimos in a Thursday night shootout win over the Calgary Stampeders.
Edmonton quarterback Ricky Ray threw for 448 yards, including the game-winner with 1:09 to play, which was hauled in with one hand by Jason Tucker.
In Week One, Edmonton was blown out by Saskatchewan, 34-13. In that game, Campbell had three receptions for 40 yards.

Numerous US politicians regularly visit Canada, so apparently that regulation is selectively enforced.

Me too. But apparently this does not apply to football players since they are privledged individuals (or at least many of them THINK they are).

Good point moonbeam. If Bob Probert wasn’t allowed across the border to play hockey, I really doubt a lot of the NFL’s certified Turds would be able to play in Canada either.

I’m sure like any individual they can receive an exception to enter the country from the government. It just has to be applied for and I’m sure with employment and a ‘business’ working on your side it is a little easier to do. Heck, Snoop Dogg has made it to Canada numerous times and I’m quite sure his criminal record is not clean.
Otherwise, I did not get to see the end of the game last night and it has proven to be a little difficult to find so… does anyone know the status of Campbell? When I had to tune out last night he was being helped to the sidelines with an injury.

I remember watching Campbell playing for my beloved Vikings, and thinking this guy could do some good for the team. He has some talent. It is VERY unfortunate that the only thing he could do, is get arrested, and the only talent he seemed to have in Minnesota was as a criminal. I wish you the best of luck Mr. Campbell. I wished you had had your stuff together when you played in the NFL, and am hoping you have learned some of those life lessons.

There is obviously an extenuating circumstance b/c a few weeks ago a minor league baseball player was unable to be traded to a canadian team cuz of his criminal record. In case anyone is interested, the player was swapped out of the trade and was replaced by 11 baseball bats. that’s right that means a player was traded for bats. Don’t remember the other dude’s name though. oh well.

I watched that game and it was without a doubt an awesome game. One of the greatest games I’ve seen including NFL. That final one hand catch for a TD has to be of one of the greatest TD’s I’ve ever seen. I still don’t know how caught it let alone hold on to it.
It sure looks like it’s going to be an awesome season. As for Campbell, the guy showed heart. Catches in the middle, etc… Even played with what seemed to be a bad knee. Hopefully he’ll be ready for the next game.

Florio as a Proud Canadian I do believe the CFL is a pro league. Keep the CFL stories coming please.
Also remember, those who complain will find something to complain about no matter what. If it is NFL or CFL they are both good leagues and I enjoy watching their brand of football.
