Things could get ugly in Green Bay? How much uglier? Their fans are ugly, their team colors are ugly. So can it really get that much uglier?

Ever since Parcells left, Jerry Jones just cannot stop talking like a headcoach. But he discounts headcoaching by constantly talking about his misfit players. I’d like to read something that he says about his respected players.

Anyone who hasn’t kept up with the story should read the Steve Foley article and the comments. Even framed in the very best light it still reeks of government corruption and irresponsibly reckless police work.

Another day, another steroid article for people to ignore. *shrugs*
I don’t even know why former players bother to speak up about the rampant steroid abuse in the NFL - everybody knows it, we just don’t care.
Its an NFL player’s job to be as strong and fast as humanly possible, which inevitably leads to ‘roids. It’s logical, and no amount of crying about it will change that fact.
While the NFL’s policy on testing may indeed be “the toughest in pro sports”, it’s still a joke. Sure, a few high-profile guys get nailed every year, but compared to the probable percentage of players using banned substances the system is obviously easy to get around.
Trying to keep banned substances out of the league is like trying to keep Olympic players clean: impossible. Where there’s a will there’s a chemist who needs to repay student loans. I think the NFL should just legalize the damn things and but have their use monitored by team doctors to make sure they’re used properly for the sake of players’ long-term health. If you can’t stop it, regulate it…

Is Cooley short on gas money? If I had money to start seriously collecting cards again, and came across a rare, there is no way that I would turn around and sell it. Frame it, hang it, whatever. But don’t sell it. Its cool that Cooley is a down to earth guy, though.

@SirSuperSouthern
Team doctors are paid by the team. You can’t trust them to be unbiased on the regulation of performance enhancing substances. If you really want to allow the dangers of ‘roids into the league (and thus into the bloodstream of every teenager aspiring to play in the NFL) then you at the very least need an independent monitoring system with the freedom to call out and punish the abuse of drugs.

@bwnyc
Fine, bring in an independent monitoring firm and test all players twice a week for safe levels of anabolic steroids and HGH. Sounds good. At least then we’ll all know the playing field is level. As it stands, we have no way of knowing which players use ‘roids occasionally for injuries and who injects rocket fuel into their major muscle groups 3 times a day. Don’t bore me with the current testing policy, at some point we all know the truth about the flimsy system is will come out, and you don’t wanna be one of the people looking stupid for trying to argue there wasn’t a problem, do you?
As far as the legalization of ‘roids being an open invitation for high school kids to do them: wake up. Did you attend a major public high school? Did you play football? The ‘roids are already there, have been, and ain’t goin’ away. The very nature of the sport ensures that, and no argument you could make will ever change that.
At least if the pros’ use was being monitored there would be official guidelines concerning acceptable levels of use. As it stands, the kids who decide to juice are ignorant about safety and long-term risk. Most in Texas just take steroids they buy at Mexican “pharmacies” and take them until their pee turns dark brown and their lower backs hurt. NFL guidelines would help.
People are very unrealistic about steroids, and think that by banning them and frowning on their use will somehow make the problem disappear. Not gonna happen - ever. It’s time to start thinking realistically now that even Terry Bradshaw admitted to using. When will you people just accept the fact that your favorite players juice? When kickers start admitting to it? When Peyton Manning gets busted? What’s it gonna take?

sirsuper,
perhaps steroids are rampant in the ‘major public high schools’….are they the only kids we’re concerned with? If steroids aren’t rampant at the non-major high schools, maybe we can help them stay off the juice!!?

That sucks that Mike Viti was cut but this league doesn’t reward character, just look at 95% of the players. I hope Mike gets picked up by another team though. Met him before and he is a very classy individual.
BTW his girlfriend at the time was freakin HOT

Hey Cooley, Adrian Peterson has only been in the league one year. Is he a future Hall of Famer? Probably, if his production continues. If this was Peterson’s 7th or 8th year, you might get some cash for it
Anyway, I have the COMPLETE set of Topps football cards dating back to 1997.

“Forte, a second-round pick (44th overall) out of Tulane, is expected to be awarded the starting job in training camp. He agreed to terms on a four-year deal worth more than $3.7 million that includes about $2 million in total bonus money.
…..
One source said Forte’s deal was the largest increase from the same slot in the previous draft that the Bears ever have given a second-round pick. Carolina Panthers wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett received $1.935 million in bonus money on a four-year, $3.6 million contract last year. Technically, Jarrett was the No. 45 selection, but he matched Forte’s slot because the New England Patriots forfeited their first-round pick this year.”
Read what Florio wrote in his team “one liners” ….
“The Bears gave RB Matt Forte a significant increase from the contract given to the player drafted in the same slot last year, Panthers WR Dwayne Jarrett.”
I don’t see the “significant difference.” Anybody? Less than $100k difference in total bonus money, and about $100k difference total ($3.7 mill vs $3.6 mill) over four years.
