Saints defensive end Charles Grant is facing a $5 million civil lawsuit in connection with the shooting death of a pregnant woman outside a Georgia nightclub in February.
The New Orleans Times-Picayune, passing along a report from WGNO-TV, reports that Grant’s lawyer confirmed that the aunt of victim Korynda Reed filed the suit.
Grant was indicted for involuntary manslaughter and misdemeanor fighting in May. Grant, who was stabbed in the neck during the nightclub brawl that precipitated Reed’s death, says he’s confident he’ll be exonerated.
Grant’s friend Laquient Macklin is charged with felony murder and feticide and is accused of firing the bullet that killed Reed.

Sad situation. A women with a child died, because of something childish. I bet it started with someone dissing someone else and it escalated. Just a bad story.

It is a tradegy no doubt but what in God’s name is a pregnant woman doing in a nite club in the first place? Why does a pro football player have to travel in a posse with friends/relatives/leeches who are carrying guns. both are a recipe for disaster and it came home to roost.

This civil suit is ridiculous. Even if Grant started the fight, unless he somehow had control over his friend to make him fire or somehow stop him the girls death isn’t his fault. I feel terrible for the woman that died, but her aunt is just trying to make a quick buck off of the situation. Just because someone rich does something stupid, that doesn’t mean that you should automatically expect money from them. Sad thing is, even if he ends up being completely blameless, he will still lose this suit.

I have to completely agree with JimmySmith. WTF was a pregnant woman doing at a nightclub? Its a sad situation, but one that could easily have been avoided by, you know, staying home as a preganat woman.
