Agent Bus Cook has been yapping a lot over the past several months regarding the future of his star client, Brett Favre.
Most recently, we heard that Cook had been telling people that Brett still wants to play. (Two days later, it was widely reported that Brett is telling people that Brett still wants to play.)
We’re now hearing that Cook is privately saying that Favre wants to play for the . . . . drum roll, please . . . oh, wait, it’s in the headline . . . Carolina Panthers.
We don’t know why Favre is eyeing Carolina. Maybe he thinks that it’s the best place for him to step in as the starter, notwithstanding the presence of Jake Delhomme, and have a chance to win. Or maybe Favre wants to play for a time that’s fairly close to his home in Mississippi — and that will play three division road games in that same general area as well.
Beyond the geography and a roster with the talent to compete in a wide-open NFC, Favre has no strong connections to the coaching staff. Favre never has been in the same organization as head coach John Fox.
That said, the quarterbacks coach, Mike McCoy, was on the Packers’ practice squad in 1995.
Whether Favre plays again and whether he plays for anyone other than the Packers remains to be seen. But if he does play for anyone other than the Packers, his next team could be the Panthers.
If the Panthers want him.

Reggie White played for the Panthers after the Packers.

Carolina is where Reggie White played after he un-retired from the Packers. Maybe Favre wants to follow Reggie? (a reach, I know)

Brett is a damn fool… he should have waited until June to announce his retirement like Elway did. By then, Favre might have already changed his mind.
Makes sense why Favre withdrew from that celebrity golf tournament.

As a Panthers fan, I would poop all over this. Unless Jake isn’t ready to go, and by all accounts he is, then I don’t want Favre. Where was he last year when we turned to David Carr of all people?

NO THANKS!! I’ll take my chances with Jake Delhomme. There’s nothing worse for any NFL team than to have an aging, cranky superstar on the roster. “Lord Favre” can go find some other team to try to prolong his career. Thank God we didn’t have to put up with this quasi-retirement from Tiki Barber!!

It’s possible that Favre just enjoys all of the attention right now and has no intention of playing again.

I still think the only thing keeping this alive is the one year 12 million dollar contract he would be walking away from. If it were 4 million he would not be getting any “family” pressure to play, and the Pack would love to keep him around.
that is a lot of money to walk away from when you know you are playing better than you have in years on a team that almost beat the SB champs.
10% of 12 million is enough for any agent to try to work for.
I know he can still help a lot of NFL teams based on last season. The year before I thought he was finished, but he bounced back nicley, and I can see how he may not want to leave the game on a signature interception.
GB has shown the talent a plenty last season, so I don’t know why he would want to leave for anything other than the cash. Dallas and NY were the only NFC teams who looked as good as GB. Why would he want to learn a new offense and WRs or mess with his legacy in GB?

I’m not a Panthers fan, but they have a huge chance of going far next year with Jake Delhomme. I also don’t think the Panthers want Favre.

Why in the funk would the Panthers want Favre? He is NOT an upgrade obver Delhomme at this point and would be nothing but a huge headache. Does he think the Panthers management didn’t watch the NFC title game that Favre single handedly lost with his bone head INTs?
This story is a joke…he has ZERO chance of signing with the Panthers. ZERO!

Lies! These are all LIES. He is not playing anywhere next year or any year…He is done..face it Florio. This is just another attempt to conjure up a story where there is none. Its the slow time in pro sports. See it for what it is….a hyped up-I’ll say it enough and people will believe it story. Give it up. Its lame.

For all that is good and holy…let this Bret Farve stuff go already!!! Even though I am NOT a Packers fan, I did enjoy watching him play, at one time. The man has said he wants to retire. This never ending Farve watch that is going on is about to kill me. I am sick and tired of it already!!! If Farve was Mr. Cook’s best client then he needs to go drum up some buisness. Sounds to me like Farve wants to stay retired. The only thing I can see him doing is card shows. Those of you who are wishing that he comes back need to brace your selves for the probability that he won’t. I hope your retirement is an enjoyable one Mr. Farve.

Here’s the thing…God, ahem I mean Favre, must live in a cocoon. The whole NFL does not revolve around him. Just because he decrees that he wants to play for Carolina, it does not mean that the Panthers will bow at his feet, sign him and hand him the starting job.
Favre is nothing but an arrogant publicity whore. He makes Chad Johnson look like JD Salinger.

I think that the Falcons would be the perfect fit for him…what Ryan could learn from him in a year would be worth the 12 mil alone. Veteran leadership for one of the youngest teams in the NFL, same deal with playing a ton of games close to home (even closer than Carolina), and the fact that it would take his career right back to where it all started. Only problem is that they’re not a playoff-caliber team yet.

Look Favre loves to play but Tampa seems a better fit. It’s closer and he wouldn’t need to learn a new offense.
Atlanta’s even closer and he could mentor Ryan for 2 years.
