Agent Bus Cook has been yapping a lot over the past several months regarding the future of his star client, Brett Favre.
Most recently, we heard that Cook had been telling people that Brett still wants to play. (Two days later, it was widely reported that Brett is telling people that Brett still wants to play.)
We’re now hearing that Cook is privately saying that Favre wants to play for the . . . . drum roll, please . . . oh, wait, it’s in the headline . . . Carolina Panthers.
We don’t know why Favre is eyeing Carolina. Maybe he thinks that it’s the best place for him to step in as the starter, notwithstanding the presence of Jake Delhomme, and have a chance to win. Or maybe Favre wants to play for a time that’s fairly close to his home in Mississippi — and that will play three division road games in that same general area as well.
Beyond the geography and a roster with the talent to compete in a wide-open NFC, Favre has no strong connections to the coaching staff. Favre never has been in the same organization as head coach John Fox.
That said, the quarterbacks coach, Mike McCoy, was on the Packers’ practice squad in 1995.
Whether Favre plays again and whether he plays for anyone other than the Packers remains to be seen. But if he does play for anyone other than the Packers, his next team could be the Panthers.
If the Panthers want him.

Will EA Sports edit the cover of Madden if this happens?? I can’t see EA selling Madden 09 with Favre on the cover in a Packer Jersey if he is playing for the Panthers.

This makes little sense. I don’t think the Panthers would want him; after making the PR that Delhomme is the guy and they haven’t brought in any veterans or new rookies. I think Favre is retired; and this sounds like something that gets posted on message boards and becomes a story.

Don’t know if he wants to be a Panther or a monitor lizzard. I do know he’s been a pain in the ass drama queen for about 4 years running now.
Ted Thompson has built a very good team without taking advice from Favre on who he should sign. Things have reached the point that Favre will hurt the Packers no matter what he does on the field. Even a trip to the SB with him this year would hurt the Pack next year and very possibly for years to come.
The Packers may take a step back with Rodgers this year, but things look bright for the future. I don’t foresee any long term bad years as the Pack moves forward with AR at the helm.
Packer fans who want Favre back are being very shortsighted. That’s why Thompson and McCarthy are runinng the team and not some some hero worshiping 12 year old with terminal myopia.

I think he should go play for the Falcons!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!
BTW, anyone else notice that the Turd Watch is up to a whopping 3 days?!? I can’t believe it! This is the time of year when these morons beat their wives, get DUIs, slip on McDonald’s wrappers and bet on dog fighting at a much higher rate of incidence than any other time of year…and yet we’re up to THREE DAYS!! Way to go NFL!!

Sorry Florio, but I’m not biting. You’re going to have to come up with actual hard evidence to back up these claims. Otherwise, you’re nothing more than an underground version of Chris Mortensen.

As a Panther Fan, I am for it only if Jake’s recovery doesn’t go as planned and he isn’t ready for week one.
How awkward would this make November 30th where the Panthers play in Green Bay?
the fact that that we play the Packers makes it unlikely

Don’t do it Carolina. You have a chance to be a Super Bowl contender next season. Adding an overrated washed up me first figment of ESPN’s imagination in QB Brett Favray is not the answer for you.
Dear Brett Favray,
GO AWAY!!!
FOREVER!!!

Dear Bus Cook,
Go away. We know your gravy train is over. You’ve made all the money you can on Favre and instead of chasing it, you’re whining.
Dude, it’s over. Favre isn’t going to be a TV star in announcing or endorsement. Go out and chase players instead of living in the past.
Go to work. Like the rest of us schmucks.

Not going to happen, but I find it laughable how people are saying he wouldn’t be an upgrade over Jake Delhomme. I do kinda like the Panthers (mostly because Steve Smith is AWESOME) and Jake, but a superstar QB who had one of his best years ever (remember, he was voted to start the ProBowl) would be a huge upgrade over a good but not great QB that is having trouble staying healthy. It would be pretty awesome to see Favre throw deep bombs to Steve Smith, based on the success of the Favre to Jennings combo last year.

Amen, b-o-a-b. Bus ain’t getting his 3% of BF’s $12 if he doesn’t play this year. Brett, I love ya and everything you’ve done for the Packers over your career, but for the love of all things holy, pleeeeeeeeeease just give it a rest. What you’re going through is the withdrawal of seeing your name in print and your mug on the tube. Please just stay retired, please?

“As a Panthers fan, I would poop all over this. Unless Jake isn’t ready to go, and by all accounts he is, then I don’t want Favre. Where was he last year when we turned to David Carr of all people?”
Uhh, leading the Packers to the playoffs!
I’m not saying the man can’t play, but we could have used him last year, not now. Unless Jake gets hurt that is. Even then I’d like Matt Moore to get experience in case he’s the next starter in Carolina.

One reason Brett Favre might be interested in playing for the Panthers is because his oldest daughter is a rising sophomore at the College of Charleston. She lived in the same freshman dorm with my daughter this past school year. Charleston is about a 3 hour drive from Charlotte so the whole Favre family could at least see him play his home games in Charlotte.

Two words:
Matt Moore
He has a much brighter future than Whiner Favre does, and is still getting BETTER.
The Panthers have their guy for 2008, and another guy for 2009 and beyond. They don’t need a newborn as well.
