This whole Brett Favre comeback story keeps getting more interesting.
Jason Wilde of the Wisconsin State Journal is reporting that Favre (possibly with his agent, Bus Cook, acting as an intermediary) contacted the Packers within the past few weeks about returning, and that the conversation ended in Favre asking the club for his release. The Packers refused.
As we’ve previously noted, if Favre does decide he wants to play again, his options are to play for the Packers, or not to play at all — unless he can convince the team to trade or release him.
If the State Journal’s report that Favre contacted the team about returning is correct, the Packers may have told Favre that they’re ready to move on, begin the Aaron Rodgers era, and save the $10 million-plus Favre is owed this year on his current contract. That’s where a request from Favre that the team release him would come from.
The Packers placed Favre on the reserve/retired list on April 25, but Favre can request that the team activate him from the list, in which case the team would either need to put him on the active roster, trade him, or cut him.

One angle I keep thinking on here… he didnt want to go thru the preparation. I take it the Pack wanted him to prepare more, and Rodgers is preparing more, but Lord Favre wishes to do otherwise…

Pathetic.
Firstly, in regard to the “reporting” I read recently that Favre is fat and happy and has no intention of returning to football. Secondly, that this over the hill icon misses banging groupies on the road so much that he wants to leave his family to underperform on the field like he did against the Giants.
Brett, you had a great career and more tail than a hundred men. Move on.

A return to the Packers by Favre would hurt the Packers future as well as Aaron Rodgers.
I move we trade this overblown ego to the Bears and when we play them, bury his sorry ass in one of the Soldier Field end zones.

I think Favre would be able to use the Green Bay-Favre love affair to get his way out. If they don’t want him to play, and won’t let him go, I’m sure there will be protesters demanding his release. Even GB fans would want him to go to a Superbowl possible team so he could win the big one again.
And we should start throwing out teams that would want him. I’d say Tampa Bay, Carolina (even though they are far from playoffs), Minnesota (but he can’t play against the Packers twice a year), Chicago (double that), or maybe Seattle (or does Holmgren hate him?), or even Kansas City.

Al Jones (reporter and long time friend of the Favre Family) just reported that this is not true in an interview. He never asked for a release. Neither did Bus Cook (agent)

what a P.R. nightmare.
the question I keep asking is why would he want to be released. if he came back he would make decent coin, and have a legit shot at a SB since they got the the NFCCG.
Unless, someone(s) have been chirpping in Bus Cook’s ear that if Lord Favre were to be released he could get lots more……cheddar. which would be, you know, tampering?

Brett has been an attention doorway debutant for years now, why would he suddenly change his stripes? I’m not sure who would be better at QB for GB right now. Favre has been subpar in the playoffs over the last decade, but Mr. Rodgers neighborhood isn’t even on the gps.
Let Favre unretire, and the packers could be more playoff fodder. Play Rodgers and the playoffs might be a thing of the past.
Either way, GB will likely unseat Chicago in the cellar of the NFC North and take their birthright place in the top five of the draft year after year.

Hey Vox, for once, I agree with you. The Cowgirls already have a QB that can throw an INT to end their season, why would they want to pay 10 million for another?
About the only difference is that Favre has actually won a playoff game, a Superbowl in fact. If Romo keeps choking in these playoff games, they should consider trading him to MN where it is a franchise tradition.

Just to clear things up, I do hate the Packers, but someone somehow posts under my name as done above. I really don’t understand it but then I have had a few beers tonight. I would have say something similiar to what was posted above under my name so the faker got it close which is good. Nice try loser. The Packers need to let Favre back and show him some respect. For everything he has done for the organization he deserves better and should be able to do whatever he wants.
Aaron Rodgers is a douche and the fans already hate him. He won’t win a super bowl or be anything close to Favre.

Well maybe favre talked to his financial consultant and saw that his investments were taking a hit. Or maybe when fueling up his tracter he decided he had 10 million reasons to return one more year. Maybe he Is that good. Maybe he was tossing the pigskin around with the Kids when he realized it was still fun. This could be the year of the maybe’s.

Oh, Desmond had a great game but he did’t throw any TD passes, did he? I seem to recall Reggie White getting a couple of big sacks in the 2nd half to help seal the victory. All that hardly makes Homo, I mean, Romo, a playoff winning QB, now does it?
Do you think the Cowgirls can’t win a playoff because even God thinks Jerry Jones is a flaming a$$hole or do they just choke every year with the consistency of the birds flying south every winter?
