ESPN opened NFL Live this afternoon with a blockbuster: Brett Favre is considering a comeback with the Packers.
According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, Favre has made some preliminary contact with the team, including head coach Mike McCarthy, to discuss a possible return.
PFT has previously reported that Favre’s agent, Bus Cook, is pushing him to play in 2008, and that Cook is quietly telling league insiders that Favre isn’t 100 percent retired.
The last time reports surfaced of Favre contemplating a return, Favre issued an emphatic denial, calling returning to football “The last thing I’m thinking about.” It will be interesting to see whether Favre makes a similar statement this time.
As Trey Wingo noted during NFL Live, ESPN is already planning to make the first Monday Night Football of the year, all Favre, all the time. They just didn’t think there was any chance that Favre would be in uniform.

There are a few things certain in life. Taxes, Death, and Will Brett Favre play this year controversey every year.
I wish Ted Thompson would come out and tell Favre that he is tired of his schtick year in and year out and tell him he isn’t welcome back and the team has moved on without him.

Favre is now acting like a serious jerk. This guy Rogers is trying to settle into his role that he’s waited patiently for. He’s sat by almost the entirety of his rookie contract waiting to do what he was drafted for: replace Favre.
Favre, get over yourself. You’re done. Go tend to your farm. Life has already moved on without you.

The only person this is going to hurt is Rodgers. The Packers are going to be better with Farve at quarterback, but you have to start to wonder about Rodgers confidence level after Farve offically retires.

Come on, give it up already! This is getting extremely old. If it is true, I hope they tell him that he can’t come back. The rest of the team was there for all the ota’s and the minicamp working hard while he was riding his tractor. I think there would be a lot of resentment in the lockerroom.

Not going to happen. I saw Aaron Rodgers board a plane for Mississippi with a long blunt object as a carry-on item.

Is it really a “comeback” if the season hasn’t even started?
The Packers should tell Favre to get bent, or trade away his rights - enough with the shenanigans.

How can this possibly be a “comeback” when Favre has yet to miss a game yet? Seriously, this guy makes himself look more and more like a fraud with each passing day. The number of playoff games this guy has blown on bad interceptions is mind-boggling. People forget that he didn’t even play well in the game they lost to Denver in the Super Bowl. It definitely is time Thompson tells him to get lost. Rodgers even showed in his brief appearance last year that he could move the offense.

This sucks. I would gladly welcome Favre as the QB of the Packers… if he never announced his retirement.
But now that he’s played with everyone’s emotions and is clearly crazy in the head, there’s no possible way he can come back now.

He really needs to make up his freakin mind. All he’s doing is making it more difficult for his replacement to lead his team. For Pete’s sake, the guy is like 80 years old…..stay retired already and quit making waves. I guess he just misses being in the spotlight and the subject of countless sports writers/announcers salivating over him.

Reminds me of an old Clash song:
Should I stay or should I go now?
Should I stay or should I go now?
If I go there will be trouble
And if I stay it will be double
So come on and let me know

You know what? If the man can come out there and continue to play at the high level that he has been able to do, then good for him. More power to him. I think he is one of the greatest to play the position and the Packers are a better team with #4 out there on the field. The guy is a winner and a true leader on and off the field. He got a small taste of what the team could do last year when they went to the NFC Championship game. I didnt believe for a second that the guy wasn’t going to come back this year for another SB run. The Packers have a good chance to do it as well.
That being said, if I am Aaron Rogers, I am telling my agent to get me traded ASAP. If Favre comes back, which is likely, there is no way Rogers starts. Not only that, but the Packers did draft Brohm in the 2nd round and Brohm is considered a better QB than Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco (I kind of would have rathered Brohm than Flacco go to the Ravens, but that is for another discussion). Rogers is looking over his shoulder at a guy who a year ago was considered the top QB prospect coming out of college and he fell into the Packer’s lap. I feel bad for Rogers, but obviously the Packers have different thoughts for the future of the franchise.
There are plenty of teams out there who could benefit from getting a guy like Rogers. Miami, Carolina, San Fran, Arizona, St. Louis…these are all teams that could be interested in a former 1st round QB who has little wear and tear of the regular season.

as a lifelong diehard packers fan, i say: trade him to an AFC team if he wants to come back. i’m done with him, i’m ready for #12, but i still fear/respect his abilities and wouldn’t even be able to WATCH him compete against the packers in the NFC, let alone with the viqueens.

Favre equates every offseason to retirement.
I am officially sick of this, and as big a fan I am of Favre, I want him out of the picture already so Rodgers and the Packers can step over this guy’s stubble-filled carcass and try to win some games. If he is allowed this comeback, then I implored Jared Allen and the Purple People Eaters to make him rethink his decision on week one.

McCarthy ought to tell Favre to go away. They don’t need him any more. Rodgers is posed to be a top-15 quarterback, and if I’m him, I get my agent on the phone with the Pack right now and say that I refuse to be a backup again and trade me the hell out of there.
You’d have to think that the Dolphins are licking their chops in that scenario. If there’s one guy who can get them back to .500, it’s A-Rod.
As for San Fran…. they’d never do it… it’d be admitting they screwed up in 2005.

if GB allows Favre to come back it will ONLY be because they have doubts about Rodgers ability to lead this team, as allowing Favre to come back would certainly end Rodgers tenure in GB. Also, if Favre comes back, at that point he becomes merely the stop gap until Brohm is ready to take over.

Favre contemplating playing football??? HOLD THE PHONES!!!
Seriously… That’s like saying “Hugh Hephner is contemplating having sex.”.
No sh*t!!! Abscent a fountain of youth if either happens they’ll both be equally ugly to watch. And one guy has a drastically higher percentage of dying while doing what he loves. Guess which one… i think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
