After an ESPN report this afternoon that Brett Favre was considering a comeback sparked a frenzy of speculation, Favre himself responded with a brief message to his local newspaper.
Favre replied to a South Mississippi Sun Herald question about the ESPN report by saying, “It’s all rumor.”
When queried about a possible media firestorm, Favre text messaged a reporter at the paper, “No reason for it.”
That sounds like Favre is saying he’s not playing this year. But it’s also a far cry from stating categorically, “I will not play football again.” And unless Favre says that, this story isn’t going away.

Or Maybe the organization got as tired of this story as I did and said to Favre “Okay, come back. But you will be the backup to Aaron.”
And Mr. Bret “I have not had my name in the news for 4 days, so I have to stir up the ‘I’m coming back’ rumors again” Favre decided, well, that’s embarrassing, guess I should kill these rumors about me coming back to save face.
Nah, that couldn’t be it.

If this was “just a rumor”, Brett, if anything, was the one who did the quashing of the rumor, he responded publicly very quickly. Besides, even if the conversation took place, he had nothing to do with it getting out and becoming a rumor.

The Packers wouldn’t/won’t take Favre back. They’ve been practicing and preparing Aaron in the starter role, and it would be a terrible move to his moral/stature as a player and to the organization if they switched now. Maybe Favre is looking to play again, just not with the Packers? Look towards Chicago or Minnesota. That would be AWESOME to see happen in the NFC North. Besides, it would take the spotlight off the Pats for a little.

As a lifelong Packers fan it pains me to say this, but enough is enough Mr. Favre. It is time to move on. I am first and foremost a Packers fan and my wish is that the greatest NFL franchise in the history of the league does what it needs to do to continue to be successful. I agree that the Packers right now with Favre are a better team, but we can’t allow this media farce to destroy what the current administration has built. That is exactly what is going to happen if this story is allowed to fester and grow. We love ya Brett. Step up and put an end to this joke once and for all.

it won’t go away because you keep reporting the same thing every day,how about just making a statement like don’t be surprised if favre comes back and leave it at that?just because it’s a rumour does not mean you have to report it every time someone says something about it.untill he steps on the field don’t report it.stop feeding this guy’s monster ego.

I’ve predicted this the entire time. I always said it was a conspiracy theory between Favre and TT. TT wants to get rid of Favre but not take the blame of having run Favre out of town. Favre doesn’t want to be percieved as dissing the Packers.
I’m starting to thing that Favre just doesn’t like the way TT has been pushing him out the door and is just trying to be as big of an Ah013 as possible.
No way Favre plays as Rodgers’ backup. As soon as Rodgers throws an INT, the crowd would be chanting for Favre, and Favre would be throwing all that in TTs face.
I could see a trade to the Dolphins for Jason Taylor, but they don’t run a WCO. I’ve always thought they’d trade his rights to Tampa for a 4th and Chris Simms. It’s gotta be a warm weather, WCO team.
Minnesota is a possibility, being a domed team, but it’s in the division and also plays division away games in cold weather. Chicago is a possibility, but it’s a cold weather team. Philly is a possibility with McNabb’s shoulder problems. But again, that’s a cold weather team. What about the 49ers?
Too bad Mike Sherman is now coaching in the college ranks. I could see Houston interested, though.

So, is Favre bored mowing the grass? It’s rumor, but he could end the rumors by speaking out. So just do it.

@seanmartin,
you almost had it. heres my take. i never believed this in the first place, at least not completely. IF favre did come back rogers would DEFINITLY not be back next year. and WHO is gunna be looking for a QB next year? WHO throws money at unproven/”semi-talented” players? the vikes. if its a GB QB going to minny its not favre. it rogers. he would be so pissed at TT and the pack(and from what i have heard in these posts he dont like the fans) he would want to stick it to the ack twice a year for the rest of his carreer! honestly, i hope rogers succeeds in GB and this is never remembeed by anyone. my prediction is IF favre acually did contact GB, TT said-”look, i dont wanna be the ASS who turns the owners(fans) against the team or front office; stay in shape and if rodgers goes down, be here the next day” or something to tht effect. big deal if its 4-5-6 games into the deal. MJ came back after his number was retired. ANNNYYY TTHHIIINGG IS POSSSSIIIIIBBBLLLLLLEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

blah blah blah, it’s july, NFL live plays year round, and has absoutly nothing to say, so lets speculate on Brett Favre. when has speculation become fact. brett farve says “i have an itch to play” and moments later it’s reported he wishes his release… As a life long packer fan, a green bay resident, and a Brett Favre fan i say he has played his last down in a Packer uniform, and the packers care enough about his legecy to NEVER let him play anywhere else. This is a dead topic. as a die hard packer fan I’ve learned to live with the fact that Brett Favre will never play again, why cant ESPN. (I don’t blame pft because it’s their duty to report wild speculation)

This has been a very bad year for ESPN. They’ve become the laughing stock of the Sports News industry. There’s absolutely no quality control and they’ve taken numerous rumors and reported them as “news”.
They have no credibility anymore - their only defense is that the name “Rumormill” was already taken.

nerdman,
Chucky only lets his qbs throw 4 yard passes.
He would $hit himself the first time Favre forces a trow and caused a pick.
It would be funny as hell.

Maybe Farvre playing the country bumpkin was no act. He just doesn’t get it. He can’t figure out that the Packers are ready and prepared to move on without him, even though he thinks that’s not possible.
Here’s something he might get through his thick head. Tear out his locker and have the media there to film it being tossed into a dumpster. Then at the Monday night game against the Vikes, BURN his jersey at half time.
That would be poetic justice for a self centered jerk who seems to be trying to sabatoge Aaron Rodgers’ career.
Go Pack! Go Aaron!!!! Go Brett - to your Mississippi swamp and stay there, and in the words of the next great Packer quarterback, “JUST SHUT UP”.

It was a matter of time before Favre realized how insane it is to leave $10 million on the table for playing one more year which he can do with his eyes closed.
But he also knows that he can play for much, much more than $10 million if he’s released and signs with another team.

The packer organization is coming apart at the seams.
They have fans ready to tar and feather Favre, Thompson, McCarthy, Rodgers, and anyone else loosely affiliated with these blemishes on the arse of the NFL.
It’s one, two, three teams ahead of you in the old NFC North.
